With newfound access to Tail Glow, Volcarona becomes even more of a threat, easily burning defensive cores due to the unbelievable increase in power. Psychic is mainly used for the omnipresent Assault Vest Toxapex, as +3 Psychic 2HKOes it. Bug Buzz hits other common defensive pieces like Ting-Lu, Tyranitar, and Slowking, as it can OHKO all three aforementioned walls after minor chip damage. Gigs Drain is weaker but can OHKO Latios and provides more longevity, especially with dual screens. Volcarona is mostly used on hyper offense, as the massive threat it poses is perfect for breaking down walls so teammates like Iron Valiant and Gholdengo can sweep. It also has a great defensive profile for these teams, as its typing and bulk make it a short-term check to Rillaboom and Iron Valiant, among others. Specifically, Sticky Web teams like to use Volcarona, as Sticky Web allows it to outspeed revenge killers like Walking Wake and Weavile, while teams with dual screens support can let Volcarona take these foes' attacks and threaten them, especially with Giga Drain. Even with this support, Volcarona can't withstand revenge kill attempts from Pokemon like Choice Scarf Landorus-T and Jet Punch Urshifu-R, so Pokemon like Thundurus-T and Raging Bolt can be helpful.

Volcarona findet sich vor allem in Hyper-Offense-Teams wieder, da seine enorme Durchschlagskraft ideal ist, um Walls aufzubrechen und so Teampartnern wie Iron Valiant und Gholdengo den Sweep zu ermöglichen. Gleichzeitig besitzt es ein starkes defensives Profil für solche Strukturen. Sein Typing und sein Bulk erlauben es, kurzfristig als Check gegen Pokémon wie Rillaboom und Iron Valiant zu fungieren. Insbesondere Sticky Web-Teams profitieren von Volcarona, da es dank der Initiative-Reduktion Revenge Killer wie Walking Wake und Weavile überholen kann. Daher sind Partner wie Thundurus-T und Raging Bolt äußerst hilfreich.
