Stall in the Sand.

I'll probably edit more reasoning behind Pokemon later...

Hey everyone. This is my first team for 5th gen, and I think it's pretty good. Well, it seems to win most games. There's always room for improvement though so maybe you could give me some tips.

The team:

Team Building Process:

I knew I wanted to base this team off of Quagsire.

Then I decided Sand would be very beneficial.

Now I needed something that would help both Quagsire and Tyra.

Something that helps Celebi and would naturally fit the team... Heatran.

A spikes user...

And now something to block rapid spin.

And there it is!

Tyranitar (M) @ Chople Berry Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 176 SAtk / 80 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Pursuit
- Fire Blast
- Rock Slide

Found this on another RMT and it's pretty cool. Gets sandstorm up, probably SR too, and does pretty decent damage.

Here's what I do to the the top 5 leads:

Deoxys-S: Pursuit till it's dead... If I try to put up rocks it'll probably just taunt. Although sometimes I can get a bit lucky and put up rocks.

Politoed: This one requires me to switch. Usually I can switch to Jellicent
and block a Focus Blast or Hydro Pump.

Rotom-W: Normally I expect a Volt Switch, so I switch to Quagsire.

Tyranitar: He's either going to Super Power or switch out. Either way I get rocks up.

Ninetails: Switch to Jellicent. It will take hardly any damage, and it will force a switch.

So there you have it. I really like this set!

Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 220 SDef / 34 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Giga Drain
- Heal Bell
- Thunder Wave
- Recover

Ahh Celebi. Man this thing is great. I can save
teammates that are statused with Heal Bell, Thunder Wave people that
Toxic either won't work on, or won't be effective on. I chose this Special
Defense Celebi over Blissey because it just really goes well with my team.
Although I have thought of switching it out for Blissey and putting
Forretress over Skarm... Maybe you guys could give me some input on that.

195.png

Quagsire (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Scald
- Recover
- Toxic
- Earthquake

Quagsire is a fantastic Pokemon. Unaware basically means it counters a
huge portion of setup sweepers. Normally stall teams have to rely on
phazing (I still have Skarm as a backup) but this thing is just so great. I
really fear grass though, so Celebi, Heatran, and Skarm are there for that.

---

485.png

Heatran (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 100 SDef / 160 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Lava Plume
- Stealth Rock
- Protect
- Earth Power
Specially defensive Heatran works really well on this team. It works really
well to check Quagsire counters.
It also resists Fire which Skarmory and Celebi have problems with, it can
stall with Protect, and it's a secondary Stealth Rock user.

---
227.png

Skarmory (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Roost
- Spikes
- Whirlwind
- Brave Bird
The typical Skarmory set. Spikes are great for any stall team so Skarmory
naturally was a contender. Also being Steel type makes it fit the role even
more. Like I said on the Celebi analysis, I'm thinking about swapping this for
a Forretress. But so far this is working out really well.

593.png

Jellicent (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Toxic
- Recover
- Taunt
I knew I wanted a spin blocker, and Jellicent is probably the most viable
one. It also has great Synergy with this team, being able to take water hits
directed at Heatran and Tyranitar, as well as fighting attacks.
Taunt is also great for taking out other stall Pokemon such as Blissey and
Chansey.

Hi, overall this is a solid stall team. The first thing I noticed is that Tyranitar is lacking Crunch! Eek! Crunch is pretty much Tyranitar's defining move, as it allows it to defeat numerous Pokemon, such as Celebi and Jellicent. There really is no need to have 2 Stealth Rock users. Instead, I suggest replacing your Tyranitar with a Choice Band variant. CB Ttar hits significantly harder, and can pummel many dangerous threats such as CM Reuniclus, who would sometimes be able to survive a 2HKO from Chople Ttar, which you absolutely cannot have happen. Crunch+Pursuit let you checkmate the Latii twins, Stone Edge is just a vicious move coming off 604 Attack, and Superpower/ Fire Punch are great for hitting common switchins such as Skarmory and Terrakion. As well, a strong Choice Band user is much much more helpful to a stall team than you'd think, as I've explained here. I suggest using an EV spread of 136 HP / 252 Atk / 120 Spe with an Adamant Nature. That way, you retain maximum power, but have enough Speed to outspeed Jellicent, and remove it with Crunch before it can burn you.

Thunder Wave on Celebi doesn't seem to fit your team IMO, as you rely on status to rack up a good portion of your damage. In other words, you want Toxic and Burn to be distributed, not paralysis. Imagine if you Thunder Waved a Conkeldurr rather than burned it, that would be troublesome wouldn't it? Instead of Thunder Wave, I suggest using Psychic to deal with the likes of Conkeldurr and Breloom, who could otherwise prove troublesome to your team. Your current Heatran set has trouble dealing with Volcarona, as Volcarona can just get itself to +6/+6/+6 and brute force its way through. Earth Power really is just for opposing Heatran, and you already have Jellicent to deal with them. Instead, you can opt for Roar to phaze Volcarona and eliminate its boosts, while simultaneously taking out 50% of its health due to SR. There also really is no need to invest in Speed, as Heatran should be focusing on taking Bug Buzzes/ Draco Meteors from the likes of Volcarona and Latios.

Finally, I suggest giving Stockpile Quagsire a shot. Since nobody else besides Haxorus can increase their Offensive stats against Quagsire, after a couple Stockpile boosts, Quagsire will be pretty much indestructible bar a Grass type move. Scald and Toxic have perfect status coverage on every Pokemon except Heatran and Magic Guard users, the former which hates Scald anyways, and the latter which get owned by Ttar. You wont miss the ability to hit Toxicroak, as Skarmory is already there for that purpose.

TLDR version:
CB Ttar>Chopletar
pros: Crunch is very necessary to beat Jellicent, Celebi, Reuniclus etc, +all the reasons a CB user benefits a stall team
cons: no longer able to take a random Focus Blast from Reuniclus, although it wouldn't matter if you can KO it in 1 shot

Psychic>Thunder Wave on Celebi
pros: better to handle Conkeldurr and Breloom
cons: none, Thunder Wave is cancerous to the team

Roar>Earth Power on Heatran
pros: easier to handle Volcarona
cons: no longer able to hit opposing Heatran

Stockpile>Earthquake on Quagsire
pros: unbreakable douche
cons: walled by Toxicroak

Hi

You have Stealth Rock on both Tyranitar and Heatran, which is a bit redundant. Therefor I suggest I suggest replacing it on Heatran with Roar, this makes it easier for you to handle Volcarona. And having another phazer isn't unappreciated, right?

I also notice that for a Stall team, you are really weak to entry hazards yourself. You should definitely use a Spinner. Looking at your team I think that Forretress can fit in over Skarmory without to much trouble. You have Heatran for phazing and a combination of Celebi, Jellicent and Quagsire should overcome the physical attackers Skarmory was used for as well. For the moveset on Forretress a set of Spikes / Gyro Ball / Volt Switch / Rapid Spin can work. Although Toxic Spikes or even Pain Split (for survivability) can work too. If you end up using Forretress over Skarmory I also suggest Psychic instead of Giga Drain on Celebi in order to keep strong Fighting-types in check.

You are still having an issue in handling CM Reuniclus, yes Tyranitar has Chople Berry, but Pursuit does laughable damage, especially when Reuniclus stays in. An easy solution here is to run Perish Song over Thunder Wave on Celebi. Since Celebi resists both moves that CM Reuniclus carry (Psychic/ Pyshock and Focus Blast) it just has to use Perish Song and stall out for 3 turns. You run a specially defensive spread so this shouldn't be to difficult. Perish Song will also help you with last poke stat-uppers or Baton Pass teams that utilize Espeon. And you don't really need Thunder Wave that much as you have 2 Toxic users in Quagsire and Jellicent anyway. Talking about Jellicent, you could also run a bit more Speed on him to handle opposing stall teams better. 100 Spe EV's will suffice in order to outspeed most thing stall teams usually carry.

I hope these suggestions helped and good luck with the team.

Ok from first look you get pretty much trashed around by Celebi 3 attacks. i might suggest running Crunch > Fire Blast on Tyranitar and giving it a bit more of attacking ev's. Next i would like to suggest running Roar over stealth rock on Heatran as it wastes a slot seeing how you already have rocks on Tyranitar. Then i might suggest running Taunt > Whirlwind on Skarmory and giving it an extra 44 ev's in speed to outpace fast jellicents. This gives you an advantage over things such as Stall pokemon like Chansey Ferrothorn Forretress etc. Hope i helped a little bit. GL

I appreciate the input guys. :D
I think I'm going to do this:
Tyranitar @ Choice Band
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 136 HP / 252 Atk / 120 Spe
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit
- Superpower / Fire Punch

Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 220 SDef / 34 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Perish Song
- Heal Bell
- Psychic
- Recover

Heatran @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Lava Plume
- Stealth Rock
- Protect
- Roar

Quagsire (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Recover
- Toxic
- Stockpile

Forretress (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SpD
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spe)
- Toxic Spikes
- Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Should I run Volt Switch or EQ?

Jellicent (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 182 HP / 216 Def / 100 Spd I'm assuming Def > HP correct me if I'm wrong.
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Toxic
- Recover
- Taunt

If you want 100 Spe on your Jellicent, then try out a spread of 248 HP / 160 Def / 100 Spd. HP is Jellicent's most important stat, no need to lower that.

Weaknesses
Volt-turn combo
Toxic Spikes
Hydreigon
Sun + Dugtrio
TR Reuniclus

Roserade@ Black Sludge
252 HP/ 248 Def / 8 Sdef
Calm Nature
Sleep Powder
Toxic Spikes
Leaf Storm
HP Fire/ Rest

I feel like Roserade would be a lovely fit to your team over Celebi. Not only does it cut off volt switch from going into uturn scizor, it also absorbs the detrimental toxic spikes. Since you have a spinblocker, your team could pressure your opponent throughout the game with a layer of toxic spikes. Finally, Roserade injures your opponent by putting 1 of their pokemon to sleep. Celebi's role on your team is minimal and I really think you should consider replacing it.

Secondly, I'd advise you to change Heatran to a pokemon like Blissey:

Blissey (F) @ (Leftovers) Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
-Softboiled
-Flamethrower
-Toxic
-Heal Bell /Seismic Toss

Blissey can counter sun + dugtrio, a common offensive strategy which you have no counter to. It can also do general specially defensive walling against pokemon such as Hydreigon and Reuniclus which you might have trouble with. Heal Bell and Seismic Toss is preference; I think you would prefer heal bell since i suggested swapping out celebi, but I'd personally suggest seismic toss to break volcarona subs.

Always loving stall, keep it up!
