Stall w/ Screens

Hello all! I'm here today to put up a UU team I've made that has done pretty well so far. I'm just looking for some tips on how to improve it.

So, without further ado, on to the team!

Qwilfish @ Black Sludge
Intimidate
252 HP/200 Def/52 Spe
Impish (- SpA, + Def)
~Spikes
~Pain Split
~Waterfall
~Haze

A little unorthodox, but very effective. Replacing Hitmontop, Qwilfish brings a lot of great qualities to the table: Intimidate, good bulk, entry hazards, Haze, Fighting and Bug resistance, etc. He's damn good at what he does.

The EVs allow Qwilfish to outspend uninvested base 90s and Victini after a V-create. Spikes add more residual damage, Pain Split gives me semi-reliable recovery, Waterfall is solid STAB, and Haze stops setup and Baton Pass.

Arcanine @ Leftovers
Intimidate
248 HP/252 Def/8 Spe
Bold (- Atk, + Def)
~Flamethrower
~Hidden Power Grass
~Will-O-Wisp
~Morning Sun

The second member of my physical defense core, Arcanine. He's damn good at what he does; he can wall Heracross, other Arcanine, and many others, especially with Intimidate. The HP EVs let him switch into Rocks four times and still live, while the other 8 go into Speed. Flamethrower is for reliable STAB, Hidden Power Grass 2HKO's all Rhyperior and hits bulky Water types. Will-O-Wisp helps with the walling, and Morning Sun heals, obviously.

I'm contemplating putting Extremespeed instead of Hidden Power Grass, but the ability to hit Rhyperior is too good to pass up. I know that after an Intimidate, Arcanine can live an Earthquake, so that's pretty awesome. If Rhyperior usage goes down then maybe, because my team lacks priority.

bronzong.jpg

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Heatproof
252 HP/4 Atk/252 SpD
Sassy (- Spe, + SpD)
~Stealth Rock
~Gyro Ball
~Earthquake
~Toxic

Part one of the specially defensive team. Bronzong is here for SR, and to check certain threats such as Kingdra and Togekiss. The choice of Heatproof over Levitate is simple; people are so accustomed to seeing Levitate, nobody Earthquakes on Bronzong. Chandelure can't 2HKO with Fire Blast, and Earthquake kicks its teeth in. Rhyperior is handled by Hitmontop and Arcanine, and Flygon too. The EVs and Nature are standard. SR because I love me some free damage, Gyro Ball hurts Froslass and Heracross, Earthquake for Steel and Fire types.

Xatu @ Light Clay
Magic Bounce
252 HP/4 Atk/252 Spe
Jolly (- SpA, + Spe)
~Reflect
~Light Screen
~Roost
~U-turn

Ah, Xatu. Magic Bounce was a godsend for this thing. Not only can I keep hazards off my side of the field, but I can set up screens as well. Max HP and Speed let me get my screens up fast, and give me some good bulk. Obviously, Reflect and Light Screen help my team tank hits more efficiently, and help Porygon2 get some good damage in. Roost recovers my HP while taking away my big weaknesses, and U-turn gives me momentum.

Just some random calcs with screens up:

* -1 252+ Atk Choice Band Rhyperior Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Arcanine through Reflect: 159-187 (41.51 - 48.82%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
* 252 Atk Victini V-create vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Heatproof Bronzong through Reflect: 109-129 (32.24 - 38.16%) -- 0.85% chance to 3HKO
* +2 252 SpA Life Orb Mew Aura Sphere vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Umbreon through Light Screen: 127-151 (32.23 - 38.32%) -- 2.05% chance to 3HKO

Yeah, huuuuge difference.

umbreon.jpg

Umbreon @ Leftovers
Synchronize
252 HP/4 Def/252 SpD
Careful (- SpA, + SpD)
~Wish
~Protect
~Foul Play
~Heal Bell

Part two of my special defensive core, the one and only Umbreon. Umbreon's job is to heal the team, through Wish and Heal Bell. It can also do a number to physical attackers with Foul Play; it 2HKOs Flygon and 3HKOs Heracross. The EVs and Nature give me the highest SpD possible. Wish and Protect give me healing for myself and my teammates who can't heal, such as Bronzong. Foul Play deals with some physical attackers, and Heal Bell takes away threatening status conditions, like if Qwilfish were burned or Arcanine were poisoned.

I'm thinking of swapping Foul Play for Toxic, but I'm not sure yet. If Rhyperior, Flygon, and Darmanitan drop in usage, I just might.

Porygon2.png

Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Trace
252 HP/4 Def/252 SpD
Calm (- Atk, + SpD)
~Toxic
~Discharge
~Ice Beam
~Recover

If anything can counter Chandelure, it's this guy. Choosing a full special defensive spread, I can now handle big threats to my team such as Chandelure, Houndoom, Arcanine, etc. The EVs and Nature pump up my special defense to insane levels. Toxic because I can't get enough of it, BoltBeam because they have good coverage, and Recover because recovery is always nice.

So yeah, that's the team. Comment below with suggestions. Thanks a bunch!

*threat list coming soon

I would really consider replacing mew with xatu. There's nothing your mew does that xatu doesn't do + magic bounce + ground immunity + 4x fighting resist (which it looks like your team could use). Giving it dual screens is kind of an insult to mew as there are much better options to run with mew's insane movepool.

Thank you for the suggestion moose V. I tried out Xatu in a few matches just now, and he did a good job. Even though he's not as bulky, he does have the 4x Fighting resist and isn't weak to Bug. I'll replace him in the team, thank you!

This is a very well-done stall team, congrats. Now that you have Xatu over Mew, I'd ditch Hitmontop. Qwilfish would do wonders for your team, providing Toxic Spikes/Spikes Support, Thunder Wave Utility, reliable recovery, fighting resist, etc. etc. It also maintains your awesome Dual Intimidate core. It does open you up a bit to ground attacks, but again, you've got Xatu now. Other than that, this team is pretty cool. I'd keep Toxic on Zong over Protect. It can't really "check Kingdra" like you said if the best thing it can do is EQ.

Thank you for the look Kitten Milk. I will test Qwilfish for a bit because you're right, Spikes support would help, and Thunder Wave will help Porygon2. As you said, the Ground weakness may hurt but Xatu can handle it. Besides, with screens, it isn't a huge deal. I'll play a few matches and try it out.

I'll also fix the Toxic/Protect situation because I generally use Toxic more often anyway. Thanks for the rate!

Chandelure kinds screws your team, as does Kingdra since they both can set up on Xatu. If I were you, I'd put in Qwilfish over Top like the others have suggested, as well as include Roserade or Virizion over Arcanine. Arcanine and Qwilfish wall pretty much the same things except maybe Virizion, so I don't see how including them both help (I may be wrong though). Virizion and Roserade both cover Kingdra pretty well; Virizion can set up and act as your team's offensive presence while Roserade sets up Toxic Spikes and Sleep Powder alongside Qwilfish who sets up Spikes.

Next, I'll chance your Porygon2 to a defensive one to check Flash Fire Chandelure better, giving it a defensive EV spread, Toxic over Tri Attack and Trace over Download. Since Rose or Virizion can hit pretty hard as well, Porygon2 can be another special wall and solved your team's Chandy weakness.

Also, IMO your Qwilfish shouldn't run TWave because it's a stall team that would rather poison the opponent, so Haze should fill that slot which helps to counter DD Kingdra.

Hope I helped, feel free to ignore

Thank you for the rate scorpdestroyer. I agree 100% with changing up Porygon2 to the defensive set; in the matches I've tested with it, it is just unbeatable without a Fighting move. I'll change that immediately. I'll also replace Hitmontop with Qwilfish, because it is just awesome. I don't even know why I used Hitmontop.

As for Arcanine, I'm not too keen on the replacement. For the physical defense core, the dual Intimidate strategy has been working wonders, and even though both Qwilfish and Arcanine share a Ground weakness, screens and Intimidate mitigate it pretty well, and there's always Xatu.

Thank you for the help!
