In one of the most aggresive formats I've ever played and finally once Dynamax and the Snow Monkey have been removed, it's time to make your oppos to suffer one more time!
Yep, we already have a chance to use this so hated gamestyle, but there are still some flaws to correct comparing with previous gens.
1. There is not a "great wall".
Yes we are talking about her. There is not an equivalent poke which can threat 4 or 5 oppos because they can't defeat her. G-corsola cannot be included here because he cannot compile all the roles that Chansey can fullfill as cleric, staller or win-con.
2. We dont have a strong Def-Sp.def-Bounce core.
Infamous M-Sableye and Skarmory are gone and they cannot be replaced by Galar pokes again because roles doesn't match.
3. My entry hazards never last enough!
If we just didn't have enough with the increasing hazard-phobia OU meta suffers, filling the team with spinners and/or defoggers, this fire rabbit is the ultimate answer to hazards as we all know. It also has a strong offensive type, decent coverage and U-turn. So making an approach to stall by stacking layers looked useless this meta.
So, we finally introduce the team!
Ok, it is not Chansey I give you that. Still Hippo has outstanding HP and Def. Base power and with max. Investment in Sp. Def we have a mixed wall that can resist super effective special moves. It also can set rocks and it has reliable recovery. Whirlwhind sends to fly potential threats that could attempt set ups or removing the hazard.
Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Whirlwind
- Earthquake
In Galar we continue having access to the infamous FerroPex defensive core so we will exploit it here once again. This Ferro doesn't set hazards but tries to remove the item with Knock off and, according to the situation, switch off or start the nightmare with Toxic and Leech Seed. We choose to invest in Max. Defense to give us time to cripple set up Physical Attackers with our stall moves.
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Knock Off
- Protect
- Toxic
- Leech Seed
The other member of our defensive core. Overall an awesome poke that resists any unboosted move regardless its effective or not. As I said before with Ferro and in the description early before I am not setting hazards with Pex but attempting to spread status and keep our position there. Baneful Bunker plays it's role here to win time and to catch off guard aggresive U-turn mons or physical attackers with contact moves.
Toxapex @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Baneful Bunker
- Toxic
- Recover
Things get more interesting when we talk about Umbreon. It is clear that every stall team need a dedicated special wall to stomach hits, but many of them (Sylveon, Gastrodon, etc) lack of such a strong natural bulk and they do not make the game as complex as Umbreon makes it with Yawn and Snarl. Wish pass is awesome here for giving an extra life to the 3 first pokes of the team, making the oppo to face a larger knightmare.
Umbreon @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Yawn
- Wish
- Protect
- Snarl
One of the most used new Pokemon, Corvi is coming from Galar to help us also to stall them all! It fills 3 main roles in the team, as it works as a defogger, as a set up aggresive poke up to some extent, and as a check for some threats we have to deal with. Particularly Excadrill and Hatt usually sweat to beat this steel bird, who can set up or hit back in return.
Corviknight @ Leftovers
Ability: Mirror Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Bulk Up
- Roost
- Defog
- Iron Head
And finally, we have the poke that poisons everyone! Salazzle is crucial in stall mirror matches and for shorten the life of almost any switch in the oppo does. Boots avoid hazard damage so she can in and out the battle as frequently as she needs. We included Protect instead of Subs cause we are not running Sludge and we don't want to short at all Salazzle HP. With the inclusion of an offensive move it is not completely passive and WoW helps to control slower attackers getting out of control.
Salazzle (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Corrosion
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Toxic
- Protect
- Flamethrower
- Will-O-Wisp
