I've noticed most people who are running this pokemon run sets that usually contain Surf, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, and then usually Rapid Spin, Recover, or Psychic. A few people have recommended dropping either Ice Beam or Thunderbolt for Grass Rope but I really like the ability to take down Gyarados, Skarm, and Dragons. Next idea was to drop the fourth move for Grass Rope but having both Surf and Grass Rope seem to hit a lot of the same pokemon. If I dropped Surf I'd be lacking a STAB move so I would want to add Psychic as the fourth move and replace Surf with Grass Rope. Grass Rope lets Starmie take out Swampert and Tyranitar which is awesome in itself.

I'm suggesting the following moveset:

Starmie@Adherence Glasses
EVs: 40 HP / 216 Spd / 252 SAtk
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

Psychic
Grass Rope
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt

The lack of Surf means that we don't have a reliable Fire counter but there's a real lack of viable Fire pokemon to counter, Infernape being the main threat I can think of, which falls to a STAB Psychic.

I'd like any suggestions anybody would have, especially if I'm missing something or forgetting something important about giving up Surf.

all i know is that i wish people would stop putting AG Starmie on their teams and claming it to be gyrados coverage.Without recover it can take exactly one good hit from Gyrados then gyrados can come back in later DD once and your starmie and the rest of your fucking team is 6-0, their goes your coverage.

I think recover with maybe life orb is really the way to go and only use AG if you have gyrados/ddmence completly covered.
Life orb means you can basicaly put near max evs in hp/defence while still outspeeding gengar and having decent special attack
Starmie being one of the few pokemon to counter both gyrados(recover) and infernarape is a huge reason to use it.
