ORAS OU Starter Team

Hey guys, I started this OU squad as starter pokemon only, but I am willing to take suggestions for non-starters to round this team out and climb the ladder a bit further

Charizard (M) @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Will-O-Wisp
- Solar Beam
- Roost
Just a basic wallbreaker, Fire Blast hits like a truck, with solar beam cleaning up the water, ground and rock type. Will-o-wisp is used to cripple any physical sweepers or 'mons trying to set up. Roost increases its endurance to better assist the Venusaur.

Serperior (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Dragon Pulse
- Giga Drain
- Substitute
Fairly standard Serperior set, works great in the mid to late game after its counters have been removed.

Venusaur (F) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 232 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA / 20 Spe
Modest Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Leaf Storm
Assault Vest is used to bulk Venusaur up a bit, allowing it to survive hits that would normally KO it. HP Fire helps to deal with mainly Scizor and Ferrothorn. Obviously this 'mon is meant to benefit from Mega-Zard Y's ability in order to double its speed, making it extremely fast.

Feraligatr (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Ice Punch
- Superpower
Scarfed Feraligatr allows me to surprise the opponent with speed, allowing a revenge kill against rather fast 'mons with his solid attack boosted with Sheer Force

Infernape (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Mach Punch
- Earthquake
- Gunk Shot
- Close Combat
Iron Fist is used to give Mach Punch a little extra oomph, plus this set doesn't have a single fire type move, making Blaze useless. With Choice Band, Infernape hits harder than expected (especially with Close Combat). Finally, he's rounded out with EQ and Gunk Shot, hard hitting coverage moves.

Empoleon (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Roar
- Stealth Rock
- Scald
- Toxic
Empoleon is pretty much the defensive pivot. Setting up stealth rocks for chip damage, Scald for coverage and potentially burning physical attackers, Toxic to wear own tanks, and roar to prevent set-ups.

Let me know what you guys think, any critiquing is welcome. Again, I'm willing to take any suggestions of movesets or pokemon (non-starters included) that you think will better round out this team.

Thanks a lot!

Okay I will keep the who starter theme going with the rate (:
Charizard Y, Empoleon and Serperior make for a nice core with wallbreaking, tanking and sweeping potential. However Char Y is super weak to steal rock, and so i recommend running defog on Empoleon as a means of hazard control. He also provides useful steel STAB through Flash Cannon that wrecks fairies. Steel types and grass types like ferrothorn/celebi/breloom will switch into Empoleon often too, and with the Sun Boost from Char Y, Hidden power fire gives you a solid option to deal with these switch ins.

Empoleon @ Chople Berry
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
- Scald
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Defog

Next I advise changing the Venusaur set somewhat. Under Sun growth doubles venu's special attack, allowing for more immediate power. 180 speed investment allows it to outspeed base 110 scarf users such as latios.

Venusaur @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 72 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA / 180 Spe
Timid Nature
- Growth
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power Fire
- Sludge Bomb

Lastly i suggest a few move changes on mons:
Focus Blast > Will-o-Wisp

Hidden Power [Ground] > Giga Drain

Flare Blitz > Earthquake
and Stealth Rock > Gunk Shot and Life Orb > Choice Band

Timid nature > Adamant

The first two changes help you deal with the likes of heatran, which can be a massive pain otherwise (even with Infernape) and allows for a modicum of flexibility. HP ground still hits the likes of bisharp, although skarmory will wall the serperior set. You lose stealth rock on the empoleon set change to tank, and so Infernape can fulfill this role. It has to drop the choice band however (which actually gives it a little bit of flexibility). EQ is redundant with the fire/fighting STAB. Finally Jolly nature allows Feraligatr to outspeed scarf Heatran and Mega Lopunny/ Manetric.

Changes:

Charizard (M) @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Focus Blast
- Solar Beam
- Roost

Ability: Contrary

Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm

Ability: Chlorophyll

Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Ice Punch
- Superpower

Infernape (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

Hope that helps a little (:

Hi there, welcome to Smogon! Unfortunately I'll have to lock this as your descriptions are rather lacking and not up to the standard required by the RMT rules. You need to provide in-depth descriptions for each Pokemon to explain your choices and their roles. Please read the rules carefully and take a look at other RMTs and the RMT archive to see the kind of detail and format we require. Since you're new to this I'd recommend gaining more competitive battling experience and lurking around the forums more before posting a thread here. The Intro Hub is a good place to start. Good luck!
