Staryu is DANK

Staryu is DANK

Hey guys, today i have an NU RMT for ya. This team revolves around breaking down walls with one of my 3 sweepers so that one of them can come in late game and clean up shop. This team stemmed from a PU team featuring LO specially based ninjask, wigglytuff, and staryu, but i later decided to make it into an actual team to show off how valuable lesser used pokes, such as staryu, carracosta, and kanghaskahn can be. I don't have a fancy ladder rating because i tend to rage quit a lot. This team has worked great for me, but it does has it's flaws, such as no hazards. If you guys could rate the team and figure out how i could improve it, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

Staryu @ Eviolite
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Recover
- Thunder Wave
Role: Wow im pretty surprised that Staryu isnt more used on the ladder. This thing is one useful ass mofo. While 30 / 55 / 55 defenses may seem poor, with full investment and eviolite, Staryu can wall some top physical threats, suck as emboar, sawk, and golem. I find it to be more reliable and useful then tentacool due to more physical bulk, a great speed for a wall, and a better support movepool. All in all great addition to this team.

Moveset: Scald is an obligatory stab and can be great for wearing down those fire types that staryu just loves to switch into, and also score a super effective hit on those ground types that can evade thunder wave. Rapid spin is the whole point i use staryu, and greatly helps out jynx. Recover and thunder wave are the reason i use staryu over tentacool. Recover works fantastically with staryu's amazing base 85 speed, and lets me not have to rely on un stab giga drain for recovery. Thunder wave is a great tool in crippling emboar and sawk, and a generally great move for a support poke.

EVs: Max HP and defense because i want to take physical hits, and eviolite boosts the defenses to decent levels.

Musharna (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Stored Power
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
Role: Musharna serves as my late game sweeper and status absorber. Once the opponent's dark type pokemon, phazers, and special walls are taken care of, Musharna can be very difficult to stop. I more often than not end the game with this poke.

Moveset: Calm Mind is the crux of this set, making Musharna more bulky, more powerful, and simultaneously raising the power of Stored Power. With only 3 CMs up (Which is fairly easy to get once counters are removed) stored power reaches 120 Base power and can Fuck Shit up.

EVs:I chose Max HP and max Defense instead of a more offensive spread because I want musharna to be able to survive a couple hits and get a lot of CMs up, because with only 1 CM stored power is only 40 BP.

Carracosta (F) @ White Herb
Trait: Solid Rock
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Shell Smash
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
Role: Wow I love Carracosta. I really dont get why gorebyss has such higher usage. Despite the fact that Carracosta is slower, once it sets up a shell smash, there is virtually no stopping it. Because of solid rock, pretty much all revenge killing attemps are futile, due to carracosta's great defenses. Fighting types, such as Sawk and Emboar fail to OHKO with their stab close combats and superpowers (if they are Jolly), and both get OHKO'd by waterfall. Even Scarfed Rotom-S fails to OHKO with stab, super effective thunderbolt, or even HP grass. Gorebyss cannot accomplish this.

Moveset: Shell smash is the best boosting move of the game, andworks great on carracosta. Waterfall hits so hard off of Carracosta's 108 attack. Stone edge is another great stab, although its accuracy is annoying and can cause carracosta some fainting. EQ is rarely used, and plainly filler. Only useful for stuff like Water Absorb Quagsire, which is rare. I should probably change it to ice beam for tangela.

EVs: Standard Sweeper spread, jolly to outspeed as much as possible.

Jynx (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Dry Skin
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Lovely Kiss
- Substitute
- Nasty Plot
- Ice Beam
Role: Jynx is undoubtedly one of the top threats in NU.:toast: it works a lot like breloom, where you can sub as they switch to their sleep fodder or counter, then kill it or put it to sleep as you please. Once jynx has two boosts, it can KO pretty much everything in the tier. With Dry skin and sub, Jynx can set up on almost all bulky waters in the tier. It also really benefits from kanghaskan's ability to eliminate dark types.
Moveset:Sub and Lovely kiss cause the opponent to play some serious mind games with me, deciding if they want to let me set up or let their counter be put to sleep. Nasty plot is a great move, especially with jynx's amazing speed, and ice beam is one of the best mono attacking types.

EVs:Max Speed and special attack so that i can set up a sub quickly and avoid status, also helps prevent revenge killing from slower threats. 4 Def to switch into rocks 4 times, also set up 4 subs if need be.

Haunter (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Bomb
Role: Haunter is my revenge killer and switch into bug, poison, fighting, ground, and normal attacks. It can revenge kill threats, such as gorebyss and jynx.

Moveset: Standard scarfed haunter moveset, shadow ball and Sludge bomb are its two main stabs, and shadow ball can OHKO Jynx with a bit of prior damage. Sludge Bomb also helps with the multitude of grass Types in the tier. thunderbolt for alomomola and gorebyss, and i chose HP fighting over ground for the ability to hit cryagonal super effectively. It also hits lickilicky and probobass harder than the other attacks.

EVs: Standard EV spread to outspeed gorebyss, and other scarfers such as sawk and Rotom-S.

Kangaskhan (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Scrappy
EVs: 216 HP / 252 Atk / 40 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Frustration
- Sucker Punch

Role:
Kangaskahn is a great wallbreaker, and can help clear the path for a Carracosta sweep. It has the ability to completely wall and set up on common walls, such as hypno and misdreaveus and decimate them with scrappy focus punch or frustration.

Moveset: Sub and focus punch can hurt anything that doesnt resist it, and is unresisted alongside normal (with Scrappy). Frustration is for when i cant make a sub, or the opponent resists fighting, such as Muk or tentacool. Sucker punch is rarely used due to scrappy, but can come in handy against faster threats, such as haunter or gardevoir.

EVs:Enough HP to make 4 101 hp subs, and the rest is dumped in to attack to hit incredibly hard. with kangaskahn's 105/80/80 defenses it's subs can be hard to break, allowing more focus punches!

Nice team, though Absol still shreds holes into your team and only Jynx can semi-reliably beat it. From what I can tell, offensive teams can be threatening as well, since only Staryu and Kangaskan are bulky enough to tank a hit. Carracosta isn't used more because it is easy to outspeed it and damage it before a Shell Smash. Even after a Smash, it can still easily be outsped by Scarf users,Cincinno, and Serperior.

If you let opposing Pokes set up, they can also beat a lot of your team, especially a Poke like SD Samurott (Lum Berry is the worse-case scenario) or DD Dragonair (Extremespeed can KO Jynx after a boost, if not before). Haze Cryogonal also seems to be a big pain to your Special attackers. Maybe you should switch Jynx into a LO offensive variant with 3 attacks, or replace Substitute with Psyshock. Just my two cents! :)

Before even reading WhiteDMist's comment I was going to mention the possibility of an Absol going to work on this team. One suggestion I want to make is replacing Kangaskhan with the following set:

533.gif

Gurdurr (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpDef
Adamant Nature (+ Atk, - SpAtk)
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Payback

Gurdurr completely takes care of Absol with a simple priority Mach Punch, as well as provides some more sufficient bulk through -- no pun intended -- Bulk Up.

I am very aware that Kangaskhan is an absolute monster, yet Mach Punch satisfies the same role Sucker Punch does (not to mention STAB bonus) and Drain Punch, while not as powerful as Focus Punch, recovers much health and does not take a Substitute to have guaranteed success. Payback is used to handle Ghosts that may give you some trouble once Scarf Haunter is down. The Guts ability also allows Gurdurr to be a status-absorber alongside Musharna. Using Bulk Up allows Gurdurr to keep up with physical threats that attempt to set-up, while Musharna walls all special threats that attempt to set-up.

I love the team, especially the use of Staryu. Lol try not to rage quite so often and maybe you can find yourself a place on the ladder ;)
