Hello I'm Mackie, I got back into playing pokemon for almost a year now and I wanted to post a team I've been having a lot of fun and success with. This team, as you can see, is really bulky and you could say semi-stall ish. It is a little bit hard to get used to it at first but when you know how it works it can be a very reliable and safe team at least for laddering. The only thing to keep in mind is to asses threats as fast as possible, but given the fact of how the team is structured it can just break to most balance and bulky teams easily enough if you know what you are doing.

Team Building Process:
gengar.png
I wanted to build around Gengar, more specific, Hex Gengar. As ORAS is coming to its end we all know the same all Metagame is getting kinda old so I wanted to use something fun, different but that could work and wasn't just straight up gimmick.

Obviously the whole point of this team is to spread status so Gengar can hit things hard so Thunder wave Clefable was a really good team mate as it can status Fire-types that you can't hit with WoW. It also helps to cripple things like Heatran, Jirachi, Mega Metagross that love to switch into Clef so you can deal with them easier. Plus we all know that para hax can win you a game. Last you know CM Clef will always be a great win con.

Third came Heatran, one of the best mons to set rocks up. It handles things like Mega Gardevoir, Mega Scizor, opposing Clefs, Talonflame... It also helps with the status and has a pretty good synergy with Gengar and Clef overall.

Next Thundurus joined the team. Thundurus is pretty much your answer to set up sweepers and fast mons, having the priority t-wave is something that can be the difference between losing one mon to DD Zard X, any scarfer or things like Mega Lop or losing the battle. Also the offensive pressure Thundurus provides is always nice + it destroys Bulky waters and flying types which could be troublesome for the team.

I was looking for hazard control so I went around many things like Latis, Excadrill and Starmie but ended up deciding for this boy. Tentacruel not only gives you Rapid Spin but also helps to status bulky mons with T-spikes and Scald. I chose it over everything else pretty much for its ability to counter and check things like Azu, Keldeo, Talonflame and defensive Lando-T while keeping an ok synergy with the rest of the team.

Finally Mega Sableye. I tried many things in this slot, offensive pressure with Scizor, Zard X, Banded Ttar and other stuff but I think The utility that Mega Sableye gives is so good. First of all is is just stops bulky mons like Ferro, Chansey, Hippo, Rotom-W, defensive Lando due to Magic Bounce+WoW and it is bulky enough to eat hits from both sides and cripple strong physical attackers.
Team In Depth:
gengar-3.gif

Gengar @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 8 HP / 248 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hex
- Taunt
- Will-O-Wisp
- Sludge Wave / Substitute
Gengar is a fun mon to use. What you want with this set and pretty much with the whole team is to status all of your opponent's team as quickly as possible, you both get chip damage or cripple them and get Hex to be 130 BP (195 due to STAB). Unless you can KO something or you need a mon quickly weakened for something else to win you should be clicking WoW most of the times until all of the opposing mons are statused. Gengar is not bulky by any means so don't try to just Wow everything because even burned pokemons can take huge chunks off Gengar, so always try to status on switchs or on mons that can't do much to you. Try to keep Gengar alive the whole match as it can just clean up late game if all faster mons are either gone or crippled and other Dark and Steel-types are weakened. Taunt is obviously for you to be able to stop status moves and set up sweepers and then switching out or attacking accordingly. Sludge Wave is just the other better STAB for Gengar and it really hits hard. For the item I chose Black Sludge as it gives Gengar a little bit more longevity but Life Orb is an option as well if you just want to hit hard. If you choose to use Sub a better EV spread would be 144 HP / 108 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe as Clef doesn't break your Sub with one Moonblast and Mega Gardevoir's Hyper Voice is not a 2HKO.

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind / Knock Off
- Moonblast
- Soft-Boiled
- Thunder Wave / Knock Off
Aww CM Clef, what a stupid pink thing, we all know this thing is so fricking bulky that it can take most hits and just heal the damage off. With Magic Guard Clef works as a status absorber while Calm Mind allows Clef to work as a win condition once Poison and Steel-types are weakened. Moon Blast and Soft-Boiled are self-explanatory I would think but for the other two slots there are multiple options. As I said most of the times I use CM + T-wave as it can bring a game back when you pretty much lost it but Knock Off in either slot is also useful as no pokemon likes loosing its item, specially Chansey with can be a little bit of an issue for the team, I would honestly give up on CM as with T-wave has amazing utility and it still works fine without it, while T-wave is so spammable and of course helps Gengar.

heatran.gif
Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Magma Storm / Lava Plume
- Toxic / Earth Power
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock
I really don't think Heatran needs much introduction, its been one of the best mons since Gen 4 and is arguably on of the best rockers in the meta. The whole point of this thing is to set rocks as fast as possible and then just stop things like Latis (Even though there was a huge rise on Surf recently), Mega Gardevoir, CM Clefs, Talonflames, Jirachi, Mega Venu and other stuff. For Fire STAB I chose Magma Storm as it is strong but most important lets you trap things and get chip damage, it allows you to dispose of Chansey, which can be annoying to the team, by trapping it, going for Taunt and then throwing a Toxic but Lava Plume is also a viable option as it can burn and helps the rest of the team. This spread is really good as it allows Heatran to have good bulk while being able to outspeed things like Mega Ttar, Stall breaker Mew and most important max speed Mega Scizor so you can take care of those accordingly. If you choose to go with Lava Plume Earth power is also a great options as you can deal with opposing Heatran and hit Volcanion and other Fire-types really hard.

thundurus.gif
Thundurus @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 72 Atk / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Knock Off /Focus Blast / Volt Switch
Thundurus is a wonderful pokemon, the ability to cripple fast mon with its priority is just too good. This guy is your main way to stop set up sweepers, while Clef also has T-Wave and all the rest of the team can burn either way there is nothing that can be done against things like DD Zard X or Mega Gyara, you are obviously not supposed to let this things set up but in case they do you always have a back-up plan for them. That said always make sure to keep Thundurus healthy as long as set up sweepers and faster mons that can give you trouble are alive as it could just make your life a lot easier. For the moveset I think having Knock Off last is the better option, as again, nothing likes loosing its item and it just allows you to have an easier time against Chansey. The EV spread + Naive nature is so Knock off is a guaranteed KO on Latios after SR damage and it even from full and with the LO hit you can dispose of it if you don't need Thundurus any more (You even have 25% chance to straight up 1HKO from full). HP Ice is there for the obvious coverage. Focus Blast is also a good choice in last slot for dealing with TTar and Heatran but I don't think is the best options due to the rest of the team. Volt Switch is also a very useful option as it gives you momentum and allows you to bring other mons in safely. If you decide to choose Focus Miss Blast or Volt Switch over Knock Off just go max SpA and Spe.

tentacruel.gif
Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 28 SpD / 16 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Acid Spray / Knock Off
- Toxic Spikes
Tentacruel is a mon that can work pretty well in OU with the correct team. I chose this over any other defogger / spinner for two simple reasons: It has T-spikes helping Gengar and its the only one that can deal with things Keldeo, Azu, Heatran, Defensive Lando, Clef and check other things like Talonflame and Weavile all at the same time. The set is really simple, Scald for burn chance and STAB, Rapid Spin for hazard removal, Acid Spray for CM sweepers and overall hitting harder with Scald and T-Spikes for poisoning bulky pokemon and wearing grounded mons down. Knock off again is always an option over Acid Spray but is not that neccesary in Tentacruel. The spread is so you take 2 Shadowballs from Gengar and 2 Fire Blast / Solar Beam from Zard Y while also making every attack from Keldeo a 4HKO and allowing you to deal with physical attackers that I stated above while outspeeding max speed base 70s and others like Adamant Mega Altaria.

sableye.gif

sableye-mega.gif
Sableye @ Sablenite
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 SpD
Careful Nature
- Fake Out / Toxic
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Knock Off / Foul Play
I've always love Sableye, all the way from Gen 3 And Gen 5 and 6 blessed him with Prankster and Magic Bounce when mega evolving. Again having a Prankster status is amazing, that said you could maybe decide to not mega evolve Sableye to cripple a powerful physical attacker before it KOs you but overall it is better to lead with Sableye and try to mega evolve as soon as possible as it just gives you more bulk and allow you to switch into Ferrothorn, Chansey, Hippowdon, Skarmory and even offensive mons like Breloom or Lando without fearing Spore or rocks. At first I was using Toxic as it gives you double status but overall Fake Out is better as it allows you to safely against mons like Clef, Mega Gardevoir, Mega Diancie, Azu, Talonflame and Mega Loppuny safely so you get the Magic Bounce and the bulk for sure, it also is priority damage which can help you to pick something up safely as it does around 10% to every offensive mons and it also allows you to rack up Toxic or WoW damage ensuring KOs or just stalling the opponent. Recover again is straight up self explanatory so I'm not going to talk about it. Finally I chose Knock Off so you can cripple your opponent but Foul Play is really good for hitting set up sweepers and strong physical attackers, choose the one you fill more comfortable with, Sableye is not gonna hit hard with either anyway.
Threatlist:
latios.gif

Latios @ Life Orb / Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Surf
- Defog
As I said Surf Latios is an issue, Heatran is no longer a switch in so you are left pretty much with only Clef which is 3HKO from full with Psyshock so prioritize getting this paralyzed so you don't risk the speed tie with Gengar and Clef is faster. Remember you have Knock Off Thundurus and Sableye but keep in mind Latios KOs Thundurus so don't switch it in and try to not switch Sableye into Dracos as it can take 1 and recover but not 2.

chansey.gif

Chansey @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Def / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss
Chansey is always annoying and as this team doesn't have any strong physical attacker then it can stall you out if you don't deal with it ASAP. You have a lot of Knock Off opportunities, Chansey is a usual switch into Thundurus so have your predictions on top, also Clef and Tentacruel if you have it. It is true that Chansey can't do anything to Sableye but you can't do anything else more than knocking the eviolite off. If it comes down to PP stall Chansey has 8 more PP than Sableye so you'll loose to it. Try to Toxic it so it has to switch and use Heatran wisely as it traps it and shuts it off with Taunt+ Toxic.

charizard-megax.gif

Charizard-Mega-X @ Charizardite X
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Serious Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw
- Roost
When is this thing not dangerous AF? Even when having Lando, Hippo or any other physical wall this monster just needs a little bit of chip damage to sweep. Your best bet is to paralyze it with either Clef or Thundurus and then kill it as fast as possible. Toxic could wear it down + Flare Blitz recoil but it is the worst choice, if you paralyze it Gengar does 80% min with Hex and Clef can take it on. You'll most likely loose 1 or 2 mons to get it paralyzed safely.

landorus-therian.gif

Landorus-Therian (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Knock Off
- U-turn
Defensive Lando is not an issue, everything but Heatran beats it and Clef and Sableye switch into it all day long but when it is offensive and worst, scarf, you have to be very careful. Sableye can take a hit and burn it but you can't switch into EQs, try to Toxic or burn it on switches and try to knock it off so Gengar is faster. Play smart with your Levitate + Flying type so it can't just spam EQ.

pinsir-mega.gif

Pinsir-Mega @ Pinsirite
Ability: Aerilate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Return
- Quick Attack
- Close Combat
Same issue as with Zard X. It is really hard to have good defense against this, Heatran takes STAB but drops to EQ/ Close Combat so you have no switch-ins. Sableye can burn it but it just dies to +2 Return. Set rocks ASAP and try to burn it as soon as so can. If you can't burn it, keep Thundurus out of KO range from Quick Attack (50% at +2 so 25% at neutral). If you T-wave it with Clef then Heatran can beat it but you need to hit in case of having Magma Storm.

volcanion.gif

Volcanion @ Choice Specs
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Steam Eruption
- Flame Charge
- Sludge Wave
- Hidden Power [Grass]
This thing hits stupid hard, your only check to it is Tentacruel but you can just Acid Spray it and you risk getting burned. Status it so Gengar can nuke it and keep in mind it can't touch Heatran if locked into anything else than Steam Eruption, but then again what reason does it have to not click that move? Strong, STAB and it burns. Sableye and Clef take one hit from full and Thundurus and Gengar Nuke it, but as I said just one switch-in.

Conclusion:
This team is very fun to use and not actually hard once you get a couple games with it. It is not hard to sweep with Gengar as you have all 6 mons with status. Try always to get your hazards as soon as possible and get the ones from your opponent off your field. When it comes to set up sweepers your best bet is to burn it if raises the attack too much or paralyze it if it raises the speed. Also you have pretty safe switch-ins into most things so play it safe unless you can capitalize on a double or you absolutely need to predict something to keep the game under control. If you have any advice on how to make the team better I'm open for suggestions but please suggest logical things and back it up with calcs or a good thought process. Finally, have fun this last ORAS month we have on us, good luck.
