ORAS OU Steel Trap Hyper Offense Team

This is a Hyper Offence Team which is designed to "lose" to Steel type pokemon. 5 out of six pokemon are rendered extremely ineffective by pokemon like scizor, metagross, skarmory, and such. However thanks to Magnezone these pokemon can be easily trapped and removed with either a prediction or the sacrifice of member not considered vital to the team.

Clingy (Magnezone) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 172 HP / 252 SpA / 84 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Flash Cannon

Ah, Magnezone the reason this team exists. 99% of the time the move he uses isnt even stab Magnezone is running 84 speed EVs in order to outspeed non invested Skarmory which also means it outspeeds just about every non-invested relevant steel type except Metagross and Heatran which it wouldn't be able to kill anyway. However another member of my team manages to check those two. Most of its moves are there as just stab with flash cannon getting special mention as it is there in order to check Diancie which otherwise wrecks my team. Choice specs and max Special attack are there to make sure it ohkoes bulky scizor mainly who could wreck it with superpower. or u-turn out. This is the bread and butter of the team and unfortunately has a lot of pressure on it. This means i must play extremely catutious on it.

Temperamental (Weavile) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Low Kick
- Knock Off

Ah Weavile the aforementioned check to some of the steel types Magnezone cannot handle. It is also one of my revenge killers on the team. It has the typical weavile spread. Knock off is the move of choice for metagross where if i can get off some damage it even mega metagross gets one shot. Lowkick is the move of choice against heatran which must again be weakened by about 10 percent for the ohko. Other than that it is just one of the pokemon that preforms excellently at taking out pokemon. One flaw is that it loses to bullet punch metagross but thankfully that move is no longer commonly run.

Marco (Staraptor) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Reckless
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Double-Edge
- U-turn
- Close Combat

Staraptor, the pokemon that inspired me to build this team in the first place. Brave bird and double edge provide massive damage against anything not rock or steel. Close combat takes care of the rock types entirely almost nothing avoids the 2hko. However steel types are more troublesome. If their name is Jirachi, Skarmory, or Ferrothorn, Staraptor only hits them neutrally, and in Ferrothorns case it takes even more damage from recoil in the process. This is where the idea stemmed from. Anyways, brave bird and double-edge are there for stab, while close combat helps to beat its checks. U-turn eases prediction, gains momentum and often causes Magnezone to get a kill on the switch in.

Pinky Toe (Clefable) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Soft-Boiled
- Thunder Wave

Clefable serves as a sweeper and my knock off switch. 95% of the time clefable switches in and click t-wave. 2% of the time clefable switches in it clicks moonblast predicting a taunt or to just get off damage. The other 3% of the time clefable clicks calm mind for the sweep. Usually sweeps begin with t-wave however. The Ev's enable it to avoid the 2hko on attacks such as Mild Life Orb Kyurem-B's Ice Beam, Thundurus's Thunderbolt, Mega Diancie's Moonblast, and Mega Manectric's Thunderbolt on the special side, and on the physical side Jolly Mega Lopunny's Return, Latios's Psyshock, and Jolly Mega Gyarados's Waterfall, as well as the OHKO from Choice Band Scizor's Bullet Punch. I'll be honest i had no idea how to ev this thing. This set is a suggestion off of the smogon page. I take no credit for it, it just goes well on the team in my opinion. Magic Guard turns it into a status absorber and allows it set up freely.

Togeflinch (Togekiss) @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Air Slash
- Roost
- Defog

I do in fact recognize my teams weakness to hazards. On the team I have 3 pokemon weak to Stealth, along with the nature of my team meaning that i will be doing a lot of switching and as such i decided to carry no stealth rocker myself. This was because I knew I needed two defoggers to ensure hazards stayed off my side of the field. Togekiss is a very strange mon on this team because of that. It ended up being another defensive sweeper with nasty plot and airslash. This combined with Clefables T-wave support creates the dreaded para flinch combo. Togekiss also carries roost for longevity and defog for the aforementioned hazard support.

MKII (Latias) @ Latiasite
Ability: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Roost
- Defog

Finally I knew i needed another hard hitter while also wanting another defogger. I also realized I had a mega slot open. Because of this I went with Mega Latias. I chose this over Latios as it is bulkier and bulk was necessary in order to defog as much as possible. I knew of its vulnerability to pursuit and sucker punch so that further supported my decision to keep 2 defoggers. Draco meteor hits like a truck and Psyshock was chosen due to my team being predominantly special. Roost is again for longevity and defog is there to remove hazards.

I've been having a lot of fun playing with this team and I am surprised to fins how well its doing. However I am a fairly new player to smogon, in fact i just made this account in order to post this. So knowing my own inexperience, I turn to you the experts, knowing you will probably rip my team apart as gimmicky and ineffective. I resign myself to this fate and still have slight hope that this turns out to be a valid concept, and I am given some tips to improve it.

Sorry for any errors in spelling, formatting, or anythin else.

Hey, first of all, I don't think you should be building a team to challenge the effectiveness of one Pokémon's ability to deal with a certain problem. Although Magnezone does a really good job of alleviating Steel-type Pokémon's presence for a team that needs that pressure cleared away, you shouldn't really build a whole team around this concept. I hope I don't come off as rude or offensive in any way - I'm just suggesting that this kind of teambuilding is not the smartest if you wish for your team to be competitive.

Now, I'm going to make suggestions assuming that you still want Magnezone to play an integral role in the success of this team.

First of all, I'm going to suggest Mega Altaria in place of Togekiss. Mega Altaria (especially the Dragon Dance set) pairs up with Magnezone quite well as the Magnezone can rid of any Steel-types troubling Mega Altaria. Getting rid of things like Skarmory is invaluable to Mega Altaria's success.

Next, I'm going to suggest you to replace Staraptor with Landorus-T. Not only does Choice Scarf Landorus-T preserve the U-turn/Volt Switch combination you have with Magnezone, it offers much more defensive utility in the metagame than Staraptor does. Although it might not be as strong as Staraptor, the Intimidate drop as well as the better defensive typing goes a long way for the success of the team.

Because I already suggested Mega Altaria, it means that your Mega Latias should hold Life Orb instead. I do advise that you keep the same set though, because it should essentially serve the same purpose as a Defog user, regardless of whether it is Mega or not.

Altaria-Mega @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Return
- Roost
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake

Landorus-Therian (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Knock Off
- U-turn

Latias (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Roost
- Defog
I hope you consider these changes. If you don't agree with them, that's perfectly fine because it's your team. I wish you the best of luck with the success of this team!

Thank you for the rating! I badly worded the point of this team I see. It is not so much to challenge the effectiveness of the team as a whole it is moreover the goal of hyper offence. The team is entirely countered by one thing steel types. However it has a way to beat steel types in Magnezone. Thusly once its counters are removed the team is then able to, in theory, wreck the other team. This is what I understand to be the point of hyper offence where you put an immense amount of pressure on one pokemon on the other team and when such pokemon is removed your team is now counterless. Correct me if I am wrong of course. That being said I do definitely agree with the Mega Altaria Switch, it had never occurred to me. The Landorus-T change I would be more reluctant to make due to Staraptor being the reason this team came into being. While I understand the reasoning I think I will make a small sacrifice in competitiveness for favoritism. However thank you so much for the help.
