Steelix (QC 0/3)

[OVERVIEW]

  • Has good typing, bulk and offensive presence.
  • Can set SR consistently due to Sturdy.
  • Walled by Bronzong, Torterra, Pelipper, Tangrowth, Rotom-F, Alomomola, Eelekross, Poliwrath and more. Almost any water or flying type it struggles to KO.
  • Sub par speed stops it excelling at offensive roles.
  • Weak to multi-hitting moves, residual damage and fake out as they break sturdy.
  • Common weaknesses to fighting, water and Ground.
  • Can switch in to normal types due to typing.
  • Prone to damage from faster wallbreakers like Clawitzer.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Stealth Rocks is incredibly useful as it deals lots of damage to top threats like Fletchider.
  • Iron Head is STAB, and hits Pokemon like Diancie for SE damage.
  • Earthquake is STAB and hits Magneton, Registeel, Drapion and Camerupt.
  • Toxic can cripple support mons and deal chip damage.
  • Crunch has good neutral coverage alongside STABs and hits Psychic types Steelix may need to switch in to and Bronzong.
  • Thunder Fang deals with bulky water and flying types such as Alomomola, Pelipper and Mantine.
  • Stone Edge and Rock Slide are stronger options for the latter two, but have accuracy issues and still can't hit Bronzong.

Set Details
========

  • The HP EVs are a leftovers number to improve recovery.
  • Adamant nature plus max attack EVs make Steelix hit as hard as possible.
  • 4 Spe allows Steelix to outspeed Slowking.
  • The rest of the EVs are dumped in SpD.
  • Leftovers offer passive recovery and may restore sturdy.
  • With Sturdy, Steelix can consistently set rocks or switch into attacks more confidently.

Usage Tips
========

  • Often lead with this.
  • Set up rocks ASAP.
  • Attack/Use coverage/Toxic as needed then after.
  • If Steelix survives late-game it can be used to switch into resisted Flying, Psychic, Normal, Fairy and Rock moves, among others

Team Options
========

  • Steelix fits best on bulky offense-orientated or balance.
  • Blastoise, Hitmonlee and Hitmontop can Rapid Spin away hazards to keep Sturdy intact while leaving Steelix's up.
  • Ghost Types like Jellicient can spin block while Braviary can punish De-fogging with Defiant.
  • Water Types can stop the Fire and Water Types which give Steelix trouble. In particular, Mantine and Pelipper can also deal with most of the fighting types that threaten it.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • A offensive set with Life Orb, Automize and Sheer Force can be used.
  • Fire Fang could be used for Steel Types and Aqua Tail is another coverage option.
  • Certain Berries could be used to allow Steelix to survive SE attacks with more HP.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bronzong**: Bronzong is immune to Earthquake and Toxic and resists Rock Slide and Stone Edge. It can only be sufficiently damaged by Crunch.

**Hazard Removers**: Steelix loses its main niche if it can't set hazards, or if they are instantly removed.

**Strong Fake Out Users**: Pokemon that can use Fake Out then KO Steelix prevent it from setting up hazards.

uh a few things here:
1) "Sub par speed stops it excelling at offensive roles." - Steelix's role isnt used for offensive purposes, the defensive set is the one in the analysis so offensive lix shouldn't even be mentioned
2) Weak to multi-hitting moves, residual damage and fake out as they break sturdy." - Most multi-hit users and fake out users can barely touch Steelix see: Cincinno, Ambipom, so this is completely false.
3) Crunch and thunder fang should not be used on a defensive set; it can't lose the utility.
4) I really don't understand with usage tips, quite often actually you don't lead with steelix due to bad first-turn matchups
5) "Certain Berries could be used to allow Steelix to survive SE attacks with more HP." - I hardly think this is a viable option.
i think this analysis needs a lot more work and maybe put it back to WIP :o

Lots of things wrong with this analysis. Play more RU before writing up an analysis. We want these analyses to be as informative as possible which is why we're being so strict about analyses with a lot of wrong information.

Some things wrong: Set is weird and not optimal with a bunch of uneeded slashes, many examples you list are not relevant, C&C section needs a total overhaul, it fails to mention important things like the Pokemon Steelix checks, what it's good for, what it has over other SR Pokemon like Registeel, Usage Tips reflect a lack of understanding on how the Pokemon should be played, and more.
