Steelix's defensive typing and impressive physical bulk cement it as one of the most reliable Stealth Rock users in RU. It is able to check and set Stealth Rock against Pokemon such as Cincccino, Snorlax, and Flapple. Heavy Slam is a consistantly strong attack thanks to Steelix's weight. Toxic cripples switch-ins such as Gastrodon, Jellicent, and Charizard. An Impish nature and 16 Defense EVs allow Steelix to more reliably check physical attackers such as Slurpuff and Morepeko. Because Steelix lacks any form of reliable recovery, Leftovers is a necessity. Alternatively, Steelix can utilize Gyro Ball and a Relaxed nature to more easily threaten common switch-ins such as Virizion, Silvally-Ghost, and Silvally-Dark.

Steelix performs best on balanced and bulky offense builds that lack a dedicated Stealth Rock setter. Offensive Pokemon such as Scrafty, Virizion, and Charizard appreciate the extra damage from Stealth Rock. Steelix appreciates bulky Water-types like Jellicent, Gastrodon, and Corsola which cover its weakness to Fire-types such as Salazzle and Charizard. Jellicent makes for a particularly fantastic partner thanks to its ability to block Rapid Spin users, while Steelix is able to block opposing Volt Switch users such as Alolan Raichu and Rotom. Steelix pairs well with Pokemon that can check Fighting-, Grass-, and Ground-types such as Vileplume and Weezing. Fairy-types such as Aromatisse and Silvally-Fairy can also help Steelix check Fighting-types. Due to its lack of reliable recovery, Steelix appreciates Wish users such as Clefairy and Aromatisse.

fairyvally and aromatisse in teammates

i think there's a more optimal build with either +def or +atk nature, but i forgot what it was

looks good otherwise

definitely go with a +def nature otherwise mons like silvally dark and ghost have a chance to 2hko steelix at +2. in addition, it can also fall to slurpuff if it takes the slightest chip (e.g. spikes damage). a +def nature makes it take significantly less damage to physical attacks on average and improves its overall matchups against the mons it’s supposed to check. steelix doesn’t need a +sdef nature to check the special attackers it can already handle in contrast.

so yeah impish nature > careful for sure.

i’d probably also mention a relaxed nature with gyro ball somewhere in there. it 2hkos virizion which otherwise switches in on steelix several times. in addition, it gets a guaranteed 3hko against silvally ghost and dark. it can 2hko passimian after sr as well, so it makes steelix a lot less passive.

qc 2/2 provided this is done

Steelix's access to a defensive typing and impressive physical bulk cement it as one of the most reliable Stealth Rock users in RU. Thank's to its physical bulk, Steelix It is able to check and set Stealth Rocks against Pokemon such as Cincccino, Snorlax, and Flapple. Heavy Slam is a consistently strong attack thanks to Steelix's weight. allows Steelix to deal a decent amount of damage to non Steel-type resists such as Xatu, Flapple, and Slurpuff thanks to its high weight. Earthquake targets opposing Steel- and Fire-types such as Salazzle, Copperajah, and Silvally-Steel. Toxic grants Steelix the ability to cripples opposing switch-ins such as Gastrodon, Jellicent, and Charizard. In order to maximize Steelix's bulk, maximum HP with 240 Special Defense EVs is much appreciated.

Steelix performs best on balanced builds and bulky offense builds which that lack a dedicated Stealth Rock setter. Thus, Pokemon that appreciate Stealth Rock support such as Scrafty, Virizion, and Charizard all pair well with it. (every pokemon likes stealth rock to some extent, what makes these ones special?) Steelix appreciates bulky Water-types like Jellicent, Gastrodon, and Corsola, which that can cover its overwhelming weaknesst to Fire-types such as Ninetales, Salazzle, and Charizard, so Pokemon such as Jellicent, Gastrodon, and Corsola. (those answer ninetales?) Jellicent makes for a particularly fantastic partner in particular thanks to its ability to block Rapid Spin users, (comma) and reliably check the Fire-types previously listed while Steelix is able to block opposing Volt Switch users such as Alolan Raichu-Alola and Togedemaru. (doesn't toge use u-turn?) Steelix pairs well with Pokemon that can check both Fighting- and Grass-types Fighting-, Grass-, and Ground-types, such as Vileplume and Weezing, both which check Ground-types. Addtionally, Fairy-types such as Aromatisse and Silvally-Fairy can also help Steelix check Fighting-types. Due to its lack of reliable recovery, Steelix appreciates Wish users such as Clefairy and Aromatisse.
