Today I am gonna be posting some of my thoughts on Hoopa, as well as a team I designed around it for UU.
I think Hoopa is good, but it could be better. Its speed stat is lacking, and while its typing is unique, its not what I call reliable. Its pretty susceptible to pursuit-trapping. However, it does have a great Special Attack stat, and because of its Special Defense, and its unique typing, it can set up on some of the UU premier walls, such as Blissey.
Hoopa @ Leftovers
Ability: Magician
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Nasty Plot
- Psyshock
- Shadow Ball
Hoopa is, like I said, a double edged sword. Its typing leaves it weak to Doublade and Common threats like Hydreigon, as well as pursuit-trapping and Knock Off. But, it can set up on Stall users easily. Substitute lets you make a copy of yourself to protect some damage, and Nasty Plot raises your already high Special Attack to an insane level. Shadow Ball and Psyshock are the moves of choice. Focus Blast is an option, but I have other stuff for Dark types. All in all, Hoopa is a great Teammate when used correctly
Braviary @ Choice Band
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Return
- Brave Bird
- Superpower
- U-turn
Braviary is my Physical wallbreaker for this team. It's able to DEMOLISH SO many things in UU. It 2HKO's Suicune at full health with Brave Bird, and it leaves a dent in anything, even things that resist it. Brave Bird and Return are the STAB Moves, U-turn is for pivoting, and Superpower demolishes things that resist its other moves (Like Blissey and Porygon2 :D). And its ability Defiant punishes any defogger who wants to try and get rid of my Webs. This bird cries out for Freedom, Justice, and Winning.
Hydreigon @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Superpower
- Roost
Hydreigon is a potent Special Attacker, and that is all that is needed :) lol not really. Hydreigon is another UU Tactical Bomb that hits a lot of stuff hard. Dark Pulse is for ghost types that Hoopa can't deal with, Draco Meteor is a good move in general, and Superpower is for other Dark Types. Because I am running Life Orb, Roost is a good recovery move that allows Hydreigon to stay long term. Simple? Yes. Effective? Most definitely!
Shuckle @ Mental Herb
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Toxic
- Infestation
- Sticky Web
- Stealth Rock
"Shuckle will mess you up."
The quote of the YouTuber Dookieshed holds true, as Shuckle can, and will tank almost any hit. Mental Herb seems weird, but what it allows me to do is that it guarantees my set up of either Sticky Web or Stealth Rock 100% of the time. Toxic is to cripple walls, and Infestation is Shuckle's way of giving a Pokemon switching in a "Going Away Present." Shuckle may be in BL2, while Galvantula is UU, but Shuckle gets the job done correctly, even if it does Negative 1 damage.
Blastoise @ Blastoisinite
Ability: Rain Dish
EVs: 184 HP / 252 SpA / 72 Spe
Modest Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Scald
- Dark Pulse
-Ice Beam
One of the problems that I had originally with this team was the inability to remove hazards. Hazards kind of ruined my team, especially Toxic Spikes. Mega Blastoise can not only remove those hazards, but it can do even more. With a great Special Attack stat, and Mega Launcher, it hits hard... REALLY HARD. Scald has the same power as Water Pulse with Mega Launcher, but it has a chance to burn, which is great for Hoopa's Set up. Dark Pulse and Ice Beam are for coverage, and Rapid Spin is why I decided to run Mega Blastoise in the first place. Mega Blastoise isn't only a great Wall Breaker, but it supports the team in a way no other Pokemon can.
Darmanitan @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- U-turn
Damage. That is all that needs to be said about Darmanitan. It just does damage. It's Flare Blitz is one of the strongest moves in the game, and it has plenty of Coverage options. Rock Slide is great for hitting Flying Types, EQ is a good move in general, and U-turn forms a Volt Turn Core with Braviary. Its sheer power is great for this team, and that is why I chose D-tan
Thanks for reading my Hoopa Team! Please tell me what you think about it! Here is a Pastebin for the team if you want to use it: http://pastebin.com/kVCs3aLe
