I’m quite pleased with this team, and have surprisingly put quite a bit of effort into it. It all started with me stumbling across my Gameboy colour, and finding I had a lvl 43 Kingdra. I immediately fell in love with it, and decided to do an OU team, with Kingdra in mind, but not a Rain team. So here goes…
Team Building.
Naturally, I started with Kingdra, but wanted it to be a wall breaker, so it can (hopefully) destroy walls, and has some good resists.
Kingdras main counters are dragons/steels, and I also wanted a lead to set up SR, so come in Mamoswine. He looks good, and is pretty bulky.
Next I wanted a fast special sweeper, who could cause a lot of pain. So I added Heatran, as it’s quite bulky, has quite a number of resists, and a beastly special attack.
After this I released I needed something to stop Earthquake from killing everything, and also another physical attacker, so Gliscor was added, it also resists Electric, and can set up a SD, for a surprised sweep.
I also wanted a special wall with an edge. Togekiss was the only thing I could think of, flinching everything in site, being able to roost, and also having a good Sp. D, it was perfect.
And last but not least, I needed something to destroy Waters and Grass, so Starmie was added, with BoltBeam, it can take down most things.
And there’s the team, now onto part 2.
The Team.
Mamoswine – Pumba.
@ Focus sash/life orb
Ability: Snow Cloak
EVs: 4 HP/ 252 Atk/ 252 Spe
Nature: Adamant (-Atk +Sp. A)
- Stealth Rock
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Protect/Stone Edge/Endeavour
Mamoswine is a monster. He can always set up rocks, and can deal with the majority of the leads in OU. Earthquake is there for stupidly powerful STAB, and can seriously dent anything that’s on the ground, everything that’s up in the air, is usually hurt by ice shard. Bronzong is the only thing this dude can’t handle, and with that I usually switch out to Heatran. But overall, a brilliant lead. I don’t quite know what to do with the item to be held, as Focus Sash/Endeavour/Ice Shard can be a surprise, and take care with Bronzong, but LO is better for later in the game. Mamoswine is also my dragon counter, and a very good one at that.
Togekiss – Gunther
@ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP/ 4 Sp.A/ 252 Sp.D
Nature: Calm (+Sp.D –Atk)
- Air Slash
- Aura Sphere
- Roost
- Thunder Wave
Togekiss is my special wall as such. He usually switches in on Earthquakes, then set’s up, or starts to flinch. Air slash can destroy any Grass or Fighting types that dare to show their faces. And Aura Sphere is to destroy the Steels that attempt to wall. Roost is an obvious choice for healing damage. Thunder Wave makes it alot easier for me to flinch, as everything will be slower, it also helps me as the enemy only have a 30% (i think) chance of attacking with Air Slash as well. It also supports the team, as the team isn't that fast overall. It can also take any Special hits pretty well, though the recoil from SR isn’t nice at all.
Gliscor – Charles
@ Leftovers/Yache berry
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252 HP/ 40 Atk/ 216 Spe
Nature: Jolly (+ Spe – Sp. A)
- Earthquake
- Aerial Ace
- Roost
- Swords Dance
Gliscor is lovely. Having two immunites, and a brilliant recovery move, is amazing. He’s also the best Herracross/Fighting check in OU. With the given stats, he can out speed Choice Band/Specs Lucario, and destroy him with Earthquake. Swords Dance is their to boost his already impressive attack, but am contemplating switching it with Stone Edge. He can also take physical hits very well, and Roost off the damage. Aerial Ace is their to destroy Herracross, and things that levitate.
Heatran – Al Gore
@ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 Atk/ 252 Sp.A/ 252 Spe
Nature: Naïve (+ Spe – Sp.D)
- Earth Power
- Flamethrower
- Explosion
- Dragon Pulse/ HP [Grass]
The revenge killer and my main special attacker. This thing can outrun everything that’s not scarfed bar Ninjask, and then proceed to destroy it from it’s godly (literally) 359 Sp. Attack. Flamethrower is chosen on this over Fire Blast, as I prefer the accuracy, as a miss from Fire Blast can cost me the game, and seeing as this dude should be trying to switch in on a Fire attack, the boost will give Flamethrower some formidable power. Earth Power is there for other Heatran, and Steels. Explosion is to just go out with a bang. And I can’t decide between Dragon Pulse or HP [Grass], both have their merits, but I don’t know which would be more effective. And “Al Gore used Earth Power” is priceless.
Starmie – Stanley
@ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP/ 252 Sp.A/ 252 Spe
Nature: Timid (+ Spe – Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Surf
- Recover
As the attentive people among you should have noticed, I have a pretty big weakness against anything with a water type move. Starmie solves this problem wonderfully, as not only does she resist water. But she can then proceed to destroy them with Thunderbolt/Ice Beam depending on the situation. Surf is on this set as grass knot isn't included, and the main thing Grass Knot was in there for was to counter Swampert, and Swampert still looses quite a bit of damage from Surf, and Surf also desacrates the Ground/Steel/Rock pokes littered around the OU metagame. BoltBeam is there for coverage, and another way to take down the flying menaces (mainly Gyarados and Salamence). Recover helps keep Starmie in the game for longer, and can also ease the recoil from Life Orb. Life Orb is also chosen as the power is their even if the move isn't super effective, and gives Starmie some good flexibility.
Kingdra – Douglas
@ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 210 Atk/ 122 Sp.A/ 176 Spe
Nature: Lonely (+ Atk – Def)
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Outrage
- Draco Meteor
The late game sweeper, with its pretty good defences, and only one weakness (dragon). The best thing about Kingdra is you don't know which end of the spectrum it's going to hit from, or even if it's going to set up rain, so whatever the opponent send in does have a huge impact on how big an impact he's going to have on a match. This thing generally tries to get a few Dragon Dances in, and then proceeds to destroy everything in its path. I only use Outrage when i’m sure all the opposing Steels and Rocks are sufficiently dead. Waterfall is for obvious STAB, and when paired with Outrage, gives him really good type coverage. Draco Meteor is for the occasional thing that can withstand Waterfall and Outrage, and most people don’t see it coming.
Well this is my team :)
Please comment, and criticise as much as you want.
Cheers, Proodle.
