SM OU Stormy Weather - A Beginner Trying to Make Their First OU Team

Hey! Eidolon Stratagem here! I'm not gonna lie, transferring away from Monotype into a tier where you can use types of all varieties is an interesting shift to make, but one i always wanted to try and do. Now, I knew that this stuff wasn't going to be easy at all, but i ran into a whole lot of struggles to get to this team now. I'm a poor teambuilder without some sort of semi-obvious mold to fit my team into, which was the case for some of my early mono teams and especially the OU teams i build before i finally think i managed t make a decent one. Luckily, I thought back on various teams i had built for monotype, and that should be kinda when the obvious hit me. When looking at teams with a semi-obvious blueprint, while also playing to my strengths of having multiple pokemon on my team of the same type, build a weather team. So, that's exactly what i did.

The Team

Pelipper @ Damp Rock
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 248 HP / 36 Def / 224 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- U-turn
- Roost
- Hurricane

When building a weather oriented team, the first big decision to make is which of the four weathers to build around. You got Hail, which has little to no support, Sun, which seems a little counter intuitive to itself, Sand, which basically boils down to only running your sand setter of choice and Excadrill, and finally, Rain. Rain was easily the best way to go in my eyes, as it offered the whole team feel that Sun offered, while also not boosting moves that could very easily off my Swift Swim abuser at the same time. Pelipper would therefore be an absolute must, a it is by far the best user of drizzle. Scald offers the good old burn factor to shut down physical threats, U-Turn offers nice momentum, Roost boosts this bird's longevity, and finally, this Pelipper runs Hurricane er Defog, due to the fact that Tornadus carries it instead, making this bird far less passive then normal.

Swampert-Mega @ Swampertite
Ability: Damp
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch
- Stone Edge

Now that ive settled on rain, Mega Swampert becomes an obvious addition. Mega Swampert hits like a truck, and has a massive speed stat while in the rain, making it a powerful wallbreaker and potential sweeper. I use a four attack moveset to maximize coverage. Waterfall hits stupidly hard in the rain, and is also STAB, Earthquake is STAB and is jut a solid move all around, Ice Punch offers good coverage on various targets, and Stone Edge is used specifically because Mantine is dumb, stinky, and would wall this thing otherwise. Its also worth noting that this does not run Stealth Rocks simply because I wanted to relieve this of being also a rocker on top of a sweeper, similar to how Tornadus is the defogger, not Pelipper, so i gave that duty to Ferrothorn.

Kingdra @ Choice Specs
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Surf
- Draco Meteor
- Hidden Power [Electric]

I wanted to have at least two direct abusers of Swift Swim on my team, and, after considering the options, I chose to add Choice Specs Kingdra. With Specs, this thing hits like an absolute truck, while also having incredible speed, making this good for revenge killing and cleaning. I run Hydro Pump and Surf, as both get rain boosted, but Hydro can pick up more kills, where Surf is much safer and consistent. Draco is our choice for Dragon STAB, as not a whole lot wants to take a Draco from Kingdra, and finally this packs Hidden Power Electric because of two reasons. For starters, this pairs up beautifully with Tapu Koko's Electric Terrain, giving the typically poor base power of this move a much appreciated boost, but it also hits Mantine, which is dumb, stinky, and would wall this set otherwise.

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 92 Def / 164 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
- Gyro Ball

Ferrothron found its way on my team list not for it's offensive presence, but for its utility and ability to take a hit and keep on going. While under rain, Ferrothorn enjoys a nice bonus of taking less damage from fir type attacks that normally terrify this pokemon, which can be huge. This is our dedicated rocker on our team, which can help us pick up some nice KOs for the Swift Swimmers, and apply pressure on opponents who love to switch bout. Leech Seed is great, as it only boosts Ferrothorn's longevity. Power Whip nails Gastrodon, which is really annoying t deal with normally, and also is a nice STAB move as a well. Finally, Gyro Ball is used for all of the faeries running about in OU.

Tornadus-Therian @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 40 Atk / 216 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Hurricane
- Superpower
- U-turn
- Defog

Trnadus Therian is a nice addition for our team for various reasons. For starters, when playing with rain, yu need an answer to the bulky grass types of OU: Mega Venusaur, Tangrowth, and especially Ferrothorn, so this mixed attacking variant of Tornadus was built to deal with all three, thanks to a potent 110 base power move with zero drawback in the rain that handles the two former named problems, and a pocket Superpower to deal with the later. Second, this is also the pokemon on our team with access to a Z-Move. With Z-Hurricane, you got yourself an absolutely monstrous nuke on your hands. Third, Defog is a boon to have on the tam, and i didn't want to put more pressure of Pelipper, who was literally making this whole team run with drizzle, so this fits the bill perfectly, and finally, it also forms a Volt-Turn engine with Tapu Koko, and to a lesser extent, Pelipper, allowing it to abuse its ability in Regenerator.

Tapu Koko @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 104 HP / 12 Def / 176 SpA / 216 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunder
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Roost

Now, im going to be honest, i knew i was going to run Tapu Koko in the last slot, but which of its various sets to run? Oh buy, that was a tough call. I settled on a Shuca Berry set, simply because I didnt want this thing to blow up from Earthquakes, and also have a pokemon that could bully Toxapex and Keldeo, two annoying pokemon to deal with. Thunder acts like hurricane, 110 base power move with no drawback in rain, Volt Switch gives me my Volt-Turn engine for momentum, while also giving me access to a more consistent electric STAB, just in case. Hidden Power Ice is basically used to pick up cheeky KOs on common, quad weak to ice type pokemon in the tier, or, in other words, Landorus Therian, Zygarde, Garchomp, and to a lesser extent Gliscor. Finally, Roost is used for reliable recovery.

Anyways, that's what i have for you today. Thanks for reading! I'll heavily appreciate any and all feedback from anyone and everyone, so please do not hesitate to suggest something!

Ok let me start off by saying I really like this team. Played with it a few times and it handles quite nicely.

Immediately I changed ferrothorns leftovers to rocky helmet. As long as you get the leech seed down, you're already regaining health. The rocky helmet does crazy amounts of damage on the dumbasses who think they can hit you. For instance, lay down a stealth rock, a charizard comes out. Loses half health from rocks. Hits you with flair blitz, you go down but you also take charizard, a sweeper from the other team, down with you.

I also gave tornadus focus blast instead of super power since his SA is higher than his attack and it sweeps any pesky ferrothorns. Sure it doesn't do well against chansey but you leave chansey to swampert who I gave hammer arm instead of ice punch. You already have ice on koko and dragon on kingdra which you can also give ice beam if you want instead of surf or hp electric.

Thos are my first suggestions. I'll try playing with ice beam on kingdra instead of hp electric and let you know how it goes!

Thanks for the team!
