Strength of a Maiden's song (peaked #80 and climbing)

What's up everyone! This is my first rmt in a long long time and my first rmt ever after playing on actual Pokemon showdown battle simulator. I would have to say I'm pleased with the competition and intellect of the players I have bumped into, that being said I'm also happy with the way my team has dealt with them. So, lets get into it shall we.

Celestial Wings (Cresselia) @ Light Clay
Trait: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SDef
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Thunder Wave
- Psychic

This is the money make of the group, and boy does she show it. In between her amazing defenses her ability to cripple opposing opponents faster pokemon and crush pivots for our team. This girl's job is pretty self explanatory tank hits and get up screens so her team can do the same. Psychic is obviously just stab so she can hit stuff as hard as she possibly can without her having spatk investments. I opted for t wave over lunar dance because it allows me to stop faster pokemon and it makes opponents shuffle around a bit trying to avoid the t-wave giving me free screen opportunities.

Sir PuffinXIII (Empoleon) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Torrent
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 200 SAtk / 56 SDef
Modest Nature
IVs: 2 Atk / 30 SAtk / 30 Spd
- Stealth Rock
- Grass Knot
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Hydro Pump

This guy is a beast to say the least. Now I know the ev spread may look odd BUT this spread allows me to ok or highly damage all leads normally used in the game and shoot them back with something that they will regret. This spread allows me to live a raikou t-bolt and ohko back with a hydro pump in torrent, ohko's pert, ohko's rhyperior, severally dents sableye, 2hko's xatu, and even takes a nice chunk out of bronzong. Hidden power fire allows this guy to be a massive threat to hail based teams especially Abamasnow who would normally seed, sub, and laugh at empoleon's efforts to take it down forcing me I to switching and giving it a free turn to molest my team's face. Grass knot is so it doesn't get walled by other bulky waters/grounds/and rocks types and allowing me to 3 hit ko most if not all of them making it a very dangerous threat to a lot of pokemkon in the tier.

Lemmi_Out-Hitmontop-Pokemon-game-character-fan-art-_by_BehindtG.jpg

Topsy Turvy (Hitmontop) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 188 Atk / 70 Def
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Mach Punch
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic

Hitmontop how I love thee, oh let me count the ways. As you may notice yet again my spread is all funked up but with good reason. This set allows hitmontop to still remain a real offensive threat while also being relatively bulky or extremely bulky while under screens. The spread given maxes hp gives him an attack stat of 300 even, while maintaining a defensive stat of 243 it may not sound like much but this little guy can still take some nice hits especially once you factor in his intimidate. I like this spread better because it give some nice power to his Mach punch and makes using a priority move without technician backing him a little more comfortable. First and foremost his job is rapid spinning, but as with any other spinner he must deal with spin blockers. So, naturally I went with toxic. Reason being I like damaging the opponent and still being able to get top out to something else that can deal with the ghost head on. Close combat is simply to tear into other pokemon with some STAB move. Mach punch on this guy is so incredibly sexy I can't explain it with words. It allows me to pick off weakened pokemon, puncture subs quickly and effectively, or punch a pokemon into a range where they can't sub up again and laugh when they don't have enough health to make another sub
Hitmontop's intimidate also makes it easier on it's teammates for taking physical hits. Tops utility over all can not be ignored or undervalued.

meloetta-pokemon.jpg

Symphony (Meloetta) @ Life Orb
Trait: Serene Grace
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 56 Atk / 252 SAtk / 200 Spd
Naive Nature
- Relic Song
- Psychic
- Grass Knot
- Close Combat

Can you hear the song? It sings of death and destruction. It's such a beautiful melody isn't it? Here is the songstress singing her beautifully destructive masterpiece. This pokemon is quite interesting and I must say has become a favorite of mine in the recent days. This pokemon is honestly the first and only stance character in pokemon to ever exist and it's cool trying to figure out what stance to be in and when you should be in it. She has the ability to be destructive from both a physical side and special side. Relic song is a powerful tool that allows her to get off a nice attack, switch forms from aria to pirouette, and has a 20% chance to sleep the opponent's pokemon as well! Using this move properly is important because it can make or break how effective she is but it honestly turns her into a 1 Pokemon pivot. Simply switching forms is enough to pressure an opponent into switching for example if gligar is in it doesn't want to sit around while I'm in aria form so it may bounce out to umbreon, but if I'm in pirouette form umbreon will need to bounce out to it's friend or it will be dying no question asked. Grass knot hurts a bunch of pokemon in or out of Pirouette form. Close combat is pretty self explanatory especially when you look at her massive attack stat while in p form. It also allows her to remain a threat to umbreon while in aria form. She has 97%+ chance to two shot it after rocks while in aria. Psychic is another stab option for her while in aria form and a very damaging one at that. It's able to two shots gligar, has an 87% shot at ohko chandalure after rocks, 3 shots dusclops, 2 shots druggion. Point is my girl is dangerous especially in the right and most know.edgable hands. This girl is almost the perfect partner for cress. She is psychic and normal so she resist ghost moves, but on the other side of the coin they do share the same dark type weakness which meoletta is quite capable of destroying.

Articuno-Zapdos-Moltres-by_ruth_taylor.jpg

Kokurai (Zapdos) @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave
- Toxic
- Substitute

This zapdos is amazing. Unorthodox maybe, but different is sexy as hell... sometimes. This is one of those times. This set allows zapdos to block status moves and answering back with some high damaging volts or it's own status. For example a lot of times people bring in snoralax on this guy expecting me to be scared by its bulk, but nopeeeee not at all. Rhyperior also tends to try to switch in to absorb the thunderbolt. If I read the switch I get a free toxic and I can get the hell out of dodge before eating a rock blast to the dome. Heat wave deals with grass, steel, ice, and bug types easily. Thunderbolt is simply to put the fear of god into things that it hits for neutral damage or especially super effective damage. Sub is for exactly what I said before, status blocking, absorbing attacks, and pursuit free switch outs all of which it does extremely well especially when it has reflect and light screen backing up. Zapdos's primary function in the team is a high damaging and annoying special attacker. It also works well for removing or weakening darmanitan's checks.

Darmanitan_Flamethrower.png

Apocalypse (Darmanitan) @ Life Orb
Trait: Sheer force
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- flare blitz
- rock slide
- superpower
- U-turn

I don't know what to say other than if my opponent allows me to remove all of this guys checks they will see why he is named Apocalypse. Flare blitz backed with a life orb+STAB all while firing off a 140 base attack stat is nothing to be fooled with. It smacks dusclops for over half easily, max def and max hp gligar gets 2 shot 97% of the time, golurk just dies no questions asked, umbreon crumples up and cries it gets shot no issue and a high chance of being ohko'd after rocks, and claydol just just dies... Rock slide clears out the rock, flying, ice, and bug types without me having to dip into the good old hp bank. With sheer force boosting it to nearly the same base power as stone edge without the crappy accuracy. Superpower shuts out rock, steel, ice, and dark types. U-turn is just to crank up the pressure and get the hell out of dodge if hell need be. Darmanitan just hard bodies the hell out of anything that doesn't resist it and even still it has to worry about eating 30% plus from a flare blitz. Thanks to sheer force when I use 2 of my 3 moves I don't take life orb recoil this allows me to fake like I'm running a scarfed set. With all this power and the guessing game of scarf or no scarf on his side this beast is truly capable of bringing an end to my opponent's world.

Please post any critiques, questions, or praises here and let me know what you think about the team. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to seeing your critiques!

Hi Azure Demon, I have a few small suggestions for changes you could make to improve the team.

Moveset Suggestions:

I think that Cresselia set would be great if you had a few setup sweepers on your team, but you currently have nothing to take advantage of screens. Instead, I think you should use CM Cresselia, which is very effective and lethal in the current metagame. This set also gives you an endgame setup option, which you don't currently have. Right now, I'm guessing your team struggles to close out games, because you have no win condition. CM Cress gives you the win condition that your team needs, making it less of a wasted teamslot and more of a vital team member. The second change I think you should make is putting 12 speed EVs on Empoleon. This might seem stupid, but it guarantees that you outspeed almost every Swampert, who currently speed tie with you. The last change I would make is to put Foresight over Mach Punch on Hitmontop. Mach Punch is laughably weak, even with the attack EVs and Adamant nature you are running, and I think there are many more situations where Foresight is necessary than when Mach Punch is. You have Sucker Punch already if you need a priority move. If you don't want to replace Mach Punch, then you should replace Sucker Punch, but Foresight is vital if you are using a spinner.

Interestingly enough I have tried setup sweepers and yes they have had success (mew and omastar) but screens are not only for setup sweeper they also improve the overall bulk of your team which can be used if you want power and bulk which is what this team is for. 2 hits become 3 or even 4 hit kos. My team doesn't really need setup sweepers because it has coverage and the power of the pokemkon on the team don't need to be boosted. That's what I was shooting for. As for the hitmontop and the empoleon I will definitely give them a shot.

I appreciate the help and I look forward to testing these bad boys out.

Cool team! Cress is a great poke
1. I agree with psychotic about dual screens but no sweeper. Your team is offensive by nature with lo darm and lo melo. I think your weakest point honestly is hitmontop. You really dont have any sr weak poke besides darm and zapdos. I think that a great wall that can easily sweep that has great synergy is otr cofagrigus. As you said before melo is immune to ghost and threatens all dark types with cc. Cof can setup tr which is okay since you have no scarfed pokes abuse dual screens and ne a great check to hera and shao.
2. I think zapdos would benefit more from roost amd lo to be honest. To toxic a rhyperior is useless tbh. Its still going ti hit hard regardless of poison. I think that a lo roost set with tbolt heat wave and hp grass would benefit more. Zap has great bulk which ds will help further and make it easier to sweep.
Other than that good team! Watch out for moxie and guts cross! Another reason to try otr cof...

I will definitely give a shot to the completely offensive zapdos because I'd been contemplating that quite often and I think it's really worth the shot. I think ill miss the sub because it would let me attack the nidos for free at least a good 2 times and for nidoking modest heat wave even without the life orb is a 2 shot, and nidoqueen is a solid 3 shot, 2 shot if I get the burn or have rocks up.

As for the ghost I like it but I don't feel like having 3 dark weaknesses is a smart thing with honchkrow lurking in the shadows ready to push in my face. I will give it a shot though but that is my only real concern

Also heracross may seem like an issue, but all depending upon what it uses I can check it with something else. For example if it locks itself into megahorn: Hitmontop, Empoleon, zapdos. Stone edge: hitmontop, empoleon, or even cress. Close combat: Cress and zapdos

Nice team. I think Cres is kind of useless on this sort of team. You don't have any set up sweepers that can take advantage of the screens. Because of this, using a SubCM with Ice Beam + Psyshock or Moonlight + Psyshock would be great for your team once you remove things such as Umbreon and Weavile.

Also, your team lacks a revenge killer. Darmanitan works as a pretty solid fire-type scarfer. Using the same moveset would be great for your team, especially since you have a Zapdos.

As for Zapdos, I feel as if LO with 3 attacks would be great. Roost, Thunderbolt, HP Grass, and Heatwave allows you to check and beat almost every water type in the UU Tier. The Special Walls of UU can be beaten by Darmanitan.

So here are the sets:

Apocalypse (Darmanitan) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Sheer force
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Rock Slide
- Superpower

Zapdos @ Life Orb
Trait: Pressure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe

-Hidden Power Grass
-Heat Wave

Thank you, I will definetly give these all a shot out. I already changed cress because someone recommended it earlier and it's doing wonders for me.

I've already tried scarf darmanitan it works but not as much as Id like it to. Only thing it was really revenge killing or taking down was scarf heacross and the occasional setup sweeper, but my team already tends to do well at checking those in its own.
Should I try out a different pokemon for a revenge killer? I honestly think threatening with the fear of a scarf+ more power is just a good for revenge killing as packing the scarf.

Someone also reccomended the 3 attack zapdos and I made the change definetly keeping it it helps out in a different way than the sub toxic set but in a very very good way.

If you want a more reliable scarfer, you would probably have to go for Flygon or Mienshao. I would recommend Flygon > Darm because it is a pretty good revenge killer in the UU meta. It also keeps momentum with your team with U-turn so yeh.

What if I went with something more like azumaril it's priority is outright deadly and I won't have to worry about scarfers and also I can 2 shot most of them

I feel like if you don't run a scarfer, your team should be extremely bulky or rain dance. Azum can work; however, Scarfers such as Raikou can live an Aqua Jet easy and OHK you with Thunderbolt after Rocks.

I've been using this team.Seconding the Sub Cress.Especially, if you use her with a bold nature, you can tank early Flygon's Outrages, and hit them with Ice Beam. Flygon with choice scarf is necessary, because you are threatened by Electric Attacks from Raikou, Zapdos, e.t.c, and can tank one V-create, and revenge that cute atomic bomb, called Choice Scarf Victini. Love this team, Meloetta can be dangerous and use close combat even in aria form, to hit dark types on switch.I should try Hp Fire on my beloved penguin, although I love hitting that electric birdy b*st*rd called Zapdos on the switch :p

Glad to hear the team is serving you well it's done great for me also. I made a few changes already. It's really improved the team. I actually decided to add scarf to darmanitan after all and it has helped the team in the reveng killing department.

I changed zapdos to a more offensive LO variant and I use cm cress instead of my screens. This team destroys everything especially if I remove cress/dar/meoletta checks (gligar and crobat)
