* Gholdengo leverages its high Special Attack stat in tandem with Choice Specs to deal devastating damage and tear through many teams.
* Dazzling Gleam can be used as an alternative option to Make It Rain for spread damage, being more reliable and dealing sizeable damage in tandem with Tera Fairy, notably being able to threaten Urshifu-R and Raging Bolt with super effective damage. Power Gem can also be utilized to hit Fire-types that otherwise severely threaten it, namely Incineroar and Ogerpon-H, the former of which resists both of Gholdengo's STAB moves. Trick can be used to cripple bulkier foes, such as Incineroar and Amoonguss, by locking them into one move while alleviating the inflexible nature of Choice Scarf.
* The first EV spread allows Gholdengo to live a Shadow Ball from Timid Flutter Mane or a Flare Blitz from Incineroar while having a high chance to survive Sucker Punch from Adamant Chien-Pao. The Special Attack investment with a Modest nature allows Gholdengo to pick up a 2HKO on Raging Bolt with Shadow Ball or Dazzling Gleam while OHKOing bulky Flutter Mane with either STAB move and non-Focus Sash Urshifu-S with Make It Rain. The Speed investment allows Gholdengo to outspeed Choice Scarf Urshifu-R and Chi-Yu with a neutral nature under Tailwind. The second spread maximizes Gholdengo's Speed and Special Attack with a Timid nature, allowing Gholdengo to outspeed Speed Booster Energy Flutter Mane that have up to 196 Speed EVs under Tailwind as well as speed tying Urshifu-R with an Adamant nature.
* Tera Fairy bolsters the damage of Dazzling Gleam, allowing Gholdengo to OHKO Urshifu-R and 2HKO Assault Vest Raging Bolt, Landorus, and bulkless Ogerpon-W while allowing it to resist Dark-type attacks, notably Chien-Pao's Sucker Punch and Incineroar's Knock Off. Furthermore, it allows Gholdengo to take neutral damage from Fire- and Ground-type moves such as Heat Wave from Chi-Yu and Earth Power from Landorus, though Gholdengo does gain a weakness to Landorus's Sludge Bomb. Tera Steel allows Make It Rain to become extremely strong, notably OHKOing Landorus, Tornadus, and Ursaluna-B as well as 2HKOing Amoonguss, Urshifu-R, and most Rillaboom. It also drops Gholdengo's weakness to Ghost- and Dark-type attacks; however, it provides a weakness to Fighting-type moves such as Close Combat from the Urshifu formes.
