Stuck in a rut. What do you do?

Well lately I have been having team building and battling woes. I just can't seem to make a successful team last for more than a few days. I have been testing other's successful teams and I still lose. I scout good players, look at their stratagys and model teams like theirs and again the team loses after about a day or two.

This leads me to my question. What do you do when you just can't seem to team build or win? Also, what advice would you give to help not only me, but others get out of the slumps I'm sure we all experience from time to time.

I was recently in a slump. What I did was I read a few warstories, and watched some battles between good players. I also played the best players I could find so that I could test my team for weaknesses. Basically keep trying, and always try new things.

Yeah Tennis thats what ive been doing mostly watching mystica whoop people lol. But also I beleive that the weather test on dougs server would help to give me a breath of fresh air at least. I responded in the topic if you would be so kind to let me into blue team ;)

Just experiment with new things.

A good way to get out of the slump is to just clear your head, and start a new team. Pick a pokemon you really like, and start building from there. Find the counters for that pokemon, try to deal with those counters, and try to create a balanced team.

Try to look for weaknesses to one pokemon on the team-level, look for general type weaknesses, and be prepared for anything. If you think you have a good team, try it out.

After the first battle, make a mental note of what happened in the battle. If you lost, try to look for the reasons you did lose. Did you make bad mistakes? Was a pokemon on your team not doing very much? If you won, find which pokemon were key to your success.

Try a few more battles. Make a note of the pokemon your team has problems with. If you think you can make a team replacement, go for it. Don't be afraid to experiment with new pokemon.

I understand that this is really vague, but if you want to get out of a slump, it's crucial that you are determined for success. You have to take your experiences and grow from them, and make your team better and better.

On a kind of related note, I went to shoddy to try thunderpup's suggestion and shoddy keeps saying "unable to launch shoddybattle" This annoys me anyone else having this problem?

First, brainstorm with someone.

I was in a recent slump myself, and basically, I got together with all the good players I knew, and just said "Okay, lets make a team" with a specific strategy and see how it works.

This does two things: It allows you to escape "tunnel vision" - where you are being beaten by random stuff and so you modify your team to try to cover that random stuff, and two, it allows you to relax a bit.

Also, confidence is a big issue. When you're losing, and you feel like crap, then it shows in your play. You press, you overpredict, you try to do too much and you can't focus.

Make no mistake - Pokemon is stressful. Any "good player" will attest to this.

Finally, if you play ladder, do it less. Again, pokemon is stressful, especially when you feel like you're making no headway. If you're having a bad day, just quit and come back tomorrow. Your mind will be clearer and you will be able to focus.

There's no real magical way to get out of a slump. As previously mentioned, simply take a break for a bit. You're not going to play any better if you keep at it while frustrated. Don't fall into the trap of thinking it's the team that is successful - it's the player using it. You need to mold a team that fits your style of play. We all go through slumps at one point or another - don't worry about it too much.

Aside from that, I don't see this thread promoting much more discussion, so I'm going to close it for now. If you can't find any help, perhaps check out the Battling 101 forum. A new round will be opened in approximately a week.
