So as you can probably guess from the thread name, this is my first venture into OU (besides a mono-purple team that won like one battle ever). I've played LC a bit, but that isn't nearly as competitive as OU. So this won't be pretty. But here goes! Sorry about some of the image sizes, I don't know how to fix that.
Dragonite @ Weakness Policy
Ability:Multiscale
EVs: 252HP, 252Atk, 4Spdef
Adamant nature
- Dragon Claw
- Extremespeed
- Earthquake
- Roost
Dragonite is the primary offensive threat on my team. Multiscale lets it switch in on basically everything, and anything super effective activates Weakness Policy, creating a monster sweeper. While Outrage does allow for more power than Dragon Claw, once I get the Weakness Policy activation, I'd like to be able to keep Dragonite in instead of switching due to confusion or Fairies. Extremespeed gives me a strong revenge killer, Earthquake gives coverage, and Roost can get me back to Multiscale, especially after switching in on a resisted hit.
Magnezone @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP, 252 SpAtk, 4 Spd
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power Fire
Magnezone feels like a good partner for Dragonite. It's steel typing lets it resist all four of Dragonite's weaknesses (Fairy, Ice, Rock, Dragon) while it's Electric STAB gives it a super effective move against Togekiss and Skarmory, two pokemon that wall Dragonite easily. Magnezone itself is weak to Ground, fighting, and fire, all of which are resisted by Dragonite, giving it a free switch-in. Thunderbolt is my strongest STAB move, but Volt Switch gives me switch initiative, Flash Cannon is for Fairies, and HP Fire is there for Scizor and especially Forretress and Ferrothorn, because my team would have a lot of trouble KOing them otherwise.
Sylveon @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 156 HP, 100 SpAtk, 252 SpDef
Calm Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell
Sylveon is my cleric, as well as a counter to opposing dragon types (but I have two steel types that do that okay, too). Pixilate Hyper Voice is really strong, and Sylveon has enough Special Defense to take on an Alakazam. It can Wish back into Quagsire to give it a chance to set up with Stockpile, Magnezone to give it more chance to take hits on the switch-in (which it does a lot of), etc.
It can also clean up if my opponent's pokemon are weak, especially if they have mostly special attackers. This isn't what it's built for, but it could if it needed to.
Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 Atk
Impish Nature
- Power Whip
- Knock Off
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
Ferrothorn was included as a check to the omni-present Rotom-Wash. It resists both Electric and Water, and hits back with a super-effective Power Whip. It has Stealth Rock as the only hazards on the team, and Knock off to deal with items. Leech seed is there to regain some health, and the Iron Barbs/Rocky Helmet combo can do a ton of damage to physical attackers if I switch in on a resisted hit. I can also bait fire attacks to switch in Quagsire, Keldeo or Dragonite with a double switch.
Quagsire @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 Def, 252 HP, 4 HP
Lax Nature
Quagsire is a good check to Garchomp, and can set up Stockpiles to tank even more. Recover provides great recovery, and Scald can burn to let Quag take even more hits. Earthquake hits a bunch of things, but Quagsire is mostly here to be a good switch pivot on physical attackers. He isn't so great against special attackers, but I have Sylveon for that.
Keldeo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpAtk, 252 HP, 4 Atk
Mild Nature
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hidden Power Ice
- Aqua Jet
Keldeo is here because my team was lacking a bit in purely offensive pokemon. Keldeo comes in and threatens a lot of things like Chansey with Sacred Sword, Infernape with Aqua Jet or Scald. Hidden Power Ice is there for things like Gliscor or Dragonite (w/o Multiscale) and Aqua Jet is there for the few things that actually do outspeed. I went with Choice Specs just to hit that much harder with my Scalds and Secret Swords. Keldeo is probably the team member with the least synergy, however, so he'll be the first to get swapped out in most cases.
So that's my team. I know there's a lot it's missing, but I was going for synergy in the team build more than anything else.
I'm thinking of swapping Keldeo for Starmie so I have a spinner, but I don't know if it's bulky enough to spin reliably and I'm not really sure what set to use.
Let me know what you think!

Dragonite @ Weakness Policy
Ability:Multiscale
EVs: 252HP, 252Atk, 4Spdef
Adamant nature
- Dragon Claw
- Extremespeed
- Earthquake
- Roost
