ORAS UU Sub-Roost Moltres Team

[EDIT]: Ok, i've been testing this team, with Shiba's suggestions, and it's a complete mess. At first i thought I was losing because of my "great skill", but I realised there was something wrong with it. They were good suggestions, but as teal6 says, I can't mix hyper offense sets with stall pretending to become balance. That team would be great if we change Moltres to a Scarf Mienshao or AV Hera, I suppose, but this is a RMT for Sub-Roost Moltres, so I'll go with the sets teal6 have suggested me. I'll leave some replays from the old team, if anyone wanna watch that, but I'm not a good player.

SECOND TRY

krookodile.gif

rotom-mow.gif

After the first testing on that "Offensive-Stall" team we're around a more defensive one with better sinergies and bulk

KFC (Moltres) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 156 Def / 104 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Toxic
- Flamethrower
- Roost

Great check for Fighting, Steel, and Fire types when they don't use Stone Edge. EVs speed are enough to outspeed Adamant Honchkrow and Tyrantrum. At first it run Will-o instead of Toxic but I changed it so it could Toxic bulky waters behind the Sub like M-Blastoise, Slowking or even Gatr.

Swampert @ Swampertite
Ability: Damp
EVs: 212 HP / 252 Atk / 44 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Superpower

Best Mega to pair with Moltres, get electric inmunnity as well as force grass types to switch in so Moltres can go on easily. Using the defensive set over the rain sweeper so it can put rocks up as Mamos had no reason to stay in in my opinion. Superpower is run as I have no fighting move but Ice Punch is an option too.

Aromatisse @ Leftovers
Ability: Aroma Veil
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Moonblast
- Aromatherapy

Defensive check to physical attackers who beats Moltres like Sharpedo or Gatr, add Wish aromatherapy support who will be appreciated by this type of team

Empoleon @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Defog
- Roar

Hazard removal. Great defensive mon who can deal with Ground types thanks to Shuca berry and hit back with Scald or Ice Beam. Roar takes away bulky set up like Cress or Curselax

Krookodile @ Choice Band
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit

As i realised Mamoswine was not as useful on this team (no Ice Shard though) I believe Krookodile can do a lot of work with Knock Off-Pursuit. CB allows Krook to break through wall like Snorlax or Suicune, who gets 2 OHKO. Has rocks resist which is a thing last team needed seriously as well as Dark-Ghost resist (Chandelure) and Psychic inmunnity

Rotom-Mow @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leaf Storm
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Trick

M-Aero was a big thread. It still is actually, but this guy stops him to sweep at Turn 1. Volt Switch gains momentum, T-Bolt for extra dmg at late game, Leaf Storm knocks out bulky ground like Swampert and Scarf Trick for fat bastards like Blissey or P2. Lot bulkier than Heliolisk too.

BIG THREADS

ag72.jpg

I depend on Shuca Berry to knock them both. Krookodile can revenge kill too and Pursuit if i want to. But still threading pokemons

blastoise-mega.gif
Has this thing any switch ins?

aerodactyl-mega.gif
Arommatise can tank some hits but once is gone or weakned He gets a kill everytime he switch in as Rotom volt switch on a ground type

slurpuff.gif
He can Belly Drum on half of my team as Moltres is my only check for this thing at x4 and it can't switch-in if rocks are up.

latest
Biggest thread so far my team can face. SD set sweeps completely as Moltres is down, so rocks become even a bigger problem. Blizzard Aboma directly gets 2OHKO on Moltres

Hey man, cool looking team you have here. Moltres is a very good mon with great coverage in Fire and Flying. The only bad part of it is its 4x weakness to SR, which really need to stay off the field if you're using it. But anyway, I'd like to recommend a couple things to help out.

  • So first off, as you mentioned, your biggest weakness are the Nido's, which with their great coverage its almost hard not to be weak to these things. But anyway, I'd like to recommend Snorlax over Empoleon. Snorlax gives you a very nice Special Wall (being able to wall the Nido's, Hydreigon, any kind of Special Attacker) as well as a nice set-up sweeper with its access to Curse. This mon has been getting a lot of love lately and is considered a top threat. You did lose your rocker/defogger but I'll recommend something for that later. Anyways, here's the CurseLax set for the team.
    snorlax.gif

    Snorlax @ Leftovers
    Ability: Thick Fat
    EVs: 140 HP / 188 Def / 176 SpD / 4 Spe
    Careful Nature
    - Curse
    - Body Slam
    - Rest
    - Sleep Talk
The EVs allow you to avoid being 2HKO'd by Mega Stoise's Aura Sphere as well as survive a Lucario CC or Mienshao High Jump Kick at +1 from Curse. The 4 Speed is to help win CurseLax Wars, if it ever happens.

  • Secondly, I'd like to recommend a nice defogger and fighting check. What confused me about your Granbull was it had Heal Bell + 3 Attacks, but with no investment it would be extremely weak and set-up fodder for a lot of Pokemon. I'd like to recommend Salamence over Granbull. Salamence gives you a great fighting check as well as an offensive threat. I'd like to recommend using a more special set so you can catch a lot of things off guard, like a Doublade. Salamence also has reliable recovery in Roost, whereas Granbull did not. Here's the Salamence set.
    salamence.gif

Salamence @ Leftovers / Life Orb
    Ability: Intimidate
    EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
    Timid Nature
    IVs: 0 Atk
    - Draco Meteor
    - Fire Blast
    - Roost
    - Defog
  • EDIT: I'd also like to recommend Rotom-Mow in place of Heliolisk, this gives you a bulkier electric type as well as help you deal with Mega Aerodactyl a little easier, which could be a pain sometimes. Replacing Heliolisk eliminates the water immunity, but it gives you a nice strong dual type electric and also maintains a nice VoltTurn core with Mega Bee. Here's the set.
    rotom-m.gif

    Rotom-Mow @ Choice Scarf
    Ability: Levitate
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
    Timid Nature
    IVs: 0 Atk
    - Leaf Storm
    - Thunderbolt
    - Volt Switch
    - Trick
You could use specs over scarf for Suicune, but I feel that scarf covers a lot of weaknesses and other members of the team can wear down cune easily for Rotom.
  • Lastly, I'd like to recommend Stealth Rock > Icicle Crash or Superpower on Mamoswine. I'd opt not to use sash on this Mamo cause most of the time Mamoswine can force switches and you can easily get rocks up, which is really nice. It's really a toss up whether to use Superpower or Icicle Crash, if you feel that you want to hit Porygons or Snorlax's on switchins then you can use Superpower. It's really preference!
But anyway, other than those changes I still think it's a very solid team! Good luck with your team!

EDIT: also use this archive to get your sprites, those didn't turn out that well :/ http://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/xyani/

Thanks for the advices. I'll test these changes and probably will upload some replays in a few days. Thanks for the sprites too

Good team bro. First off, I'd use Hurricane / Air Slash over Toxic on Moltres, since it can have great coverage in that way, as well as hit Hydreigon hard. I'd really run Shuca Berry over Leftovers on Empoleon because Mamoswine, Nidoqueen, and Krookodile gets bopped by that, although your longevity is at question. Also, I'd run Ice Beam over Roar to stop the Dragon-type Pokemon at their track. I think using Florges over Granbull will be great in conjunction with Shuca Berry Empoleon as it can check Fighting types, as well as provide Wish support to Empoleon. I would run Krookodile over Mamoswine as a Stealth Rocker, which benefits from having STAB Knock Off, Earthquake, and Pursuit. Krookdile aids you by checking the likes of Cresselia, Reuniclus, and Slowking. I'd run Jolly over Adamant nature on Mega Beedrill since it outspeeds base 80 Speed Choice Scarfers after Mega Evolving, which is really useful. I agree with the Heliolisk set as it gives you a direct counter to bulky Water-type Pokemon, however.

Here are the sets:
Florges @ Leftovers
Ability: Flower Veil
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Protect
- Aromatherapy
Krookodile @ Black Glasses
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Knock Off
- Earthquake
- Pursuit

Good luck :) I hope I helped! o.o

Hi Juancho,

I have to say, looking at the team, I don't really understand the "pace" of it. You know how offensive teams tend to go 1 for 1 in mon trades and take advantage of prediction and coverage to gain an edge? And how stall teams will deliberately slow the pace of the game down in order to disrupt the opponent from ever getting any great momentum? Your team and sets seem to sit sort of in the middle of that, and I think suffer for it. For example, you're using Mega Beedrill - a great mon, of course - but also SubToxicRoost Moltres. So in a given scenario you'll U-Turn out on something, and then... try to sub up and toxic stall it? So in this sense I think we can alter the team to more uniformly fit the balance archetype.

On a strict "what are you weak to" basis, your team really does not like Mega Aerodactyl. MAero is a huge threat in the UU tier, and with a bit of damage your team loses to it sans Mamoswine, who I don't think you can expect to reliably always answer this major threat. To give you a bit more insurance against MAero I think you can add Shuca Berry to Empoleon. This change addresses both the Nidos and MAero with EQ coverage, allowing you to tank a hit in order to hit back with Scald.

Instead of Granbull, I think you can get a lot more utility from Aromatisse. Aromatisse is a defensive monster, but importantly it can provide Wish support which is pretty vital for any balance UU team. The set would be as such:

Aromatisse @ Leftovers
Ability: Aroma Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Moonblast
- Aromatherapy

I definitely agree with Shiba's suggestion of Rotom-M. This Rotom is so good in this meta, and with specs a Leaf Storm does substantial damage to even switchins that resist. Having Trick as an option also helps your matchup against the "Cro" mons of the tier such as Reuniclus, Suicune, Snorlax, etc. Your team at the moment lacks setup sweepers, and having something that can keep pace with these mons is relatively vital in UU due to how common these types of mons are. Trick is, as always, a quick way to stop a boosting sweeper before it gets out of hand. Your team will definitely benefit from this, especially providing another grass resist which works well with my next recommendation.

Finally, I think there is a better mega than Mega Beedrill for your team. A mon that synergizes just about perfectly with Moltres is Mega Swampert, given their complimentary typing and how they can switch in on one anothers checks/counters. Swampert is the sort of mon that can use a single turn to flip a game on its head. While the recommended set that I'll give you (the RD Sweeper) may seem, on a surface level, similar to Mega Beedrill (fast, powerful sweeper), the two play completely differently. Beedrill, while extremely powerful, can struggle to clean up teams due to carrying U-Turn as Bug Coverage forcing it often to switch out. With an RD Swampert set you get both a respectable amount of bulk, great level of power, and great offensive typing for the UU metagame that covers your other weaknesses. The set is as such:

Swampert @ Swampertite
Ability: Damp
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Rain Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch / Power Up Punch

Jolly allows you to outspeed Scarf Mienshao which is always nice, and probably what I'd like to recommend the most. You could run PUP over Ice Punch if you prefer, but I would enjoy being able to take out Mence who might try to switch in to nab an intimidate on a predicted Waterfall.

I'm interested to see how the team performs, let me know if you would like me to explain any of the suggestions any further and I hope they serve you well!

Ok I've still haven't tested this team, but playing RU i thought I could add a different mon replacing Krookodile who will get STAB Knock off as well as Pursuit, adding SD sets, Ice typing and priority STAB as well as fighting coverage. Yeah I'm talking about Sneasel. Would you recommend to use it and how?
