[OVERVIEW]

Hariyama stands out in NU as a devestating sweeper, able to utilise its ability in Guts to punish status moves from the many common defensive Pokemon such as Bellibolt, Vaporeon, and Altaria, and use these as setup opportunities to deal massive damage. With access to Drain Punch, Hariyama can keep itself healthy over the course of a game to potentially brawl with Pokemon such as Flygon and Breloom that might otherwise overwhelm it. However, Hariyama can struggle a lot with common Fairy- and Flying-types in the tier such as Sylveon, Flamigo, and Cramorant, as they can take the majority of its attacks and hit it back for super effective damage. Hariyama is also very slow, meaning even mid speed Pokemon such as Tsareena, Klefki, and Altaria can hit it before Hariyama has a chance to respond, limiting its sweeping potential.

Set Details
====

Drain Punch allows Hariyama to sustain itself over the course of the battle while Close Combat hits much harder, OHKO'ing Flygon and 2HKO'ing Vaporeon at +1. Knock Off allows Hariyama to hit common Ghost-types such as Chandelure and Houndstone while also removing items from switch-ins such as Altaria and Gligar. Bullet Punch gives Hariyama the ability to pick off faster weakened Pokemon such as Flamigo and Munkidori, while Heavy Slam allows Hariyama to OHKO the likes of Sylveon and Scream Tail at +1. Leftovers gives Hariyama recovery outside of Drain Punch, which allows it to set up much easier. Guts allows Hariyama to punish common status spreading moves such as Will-O-Wisp, Scald, Thunder Wave, and Toxic from common defensive Pokemon such as Altaria, Vaporeon, Klefki, and Amoonguss; which all give it an Attack boost. 124 Speed EVs allows Hariyama outspeed the likes of Vaporeon, Sylveon, and Swampert, with the rest going into Attack and then Special Defense. Tera Steel boosts the power of Bullet Punch and Heavy Slam, allowing the former to 2HKO Flamigo and Munkidori at +1 after Stealth Rock, while allowing the latter to OHKO both Sylveon and Scream Tail at neutral. It also flips Hariyama's weakness to Flying-, Psychic-, and Fairy-type attacks from the likes of Flamigo, Munkidori, and Sylveon respectively.

Hariyama fits primarily on bulky offense and balance teams, who appreciate its ability to punish common defensive staples such as Vaporeon and Bellibolt. Steel-types such as Bronzong and Copperajah are great for Hariyama, as they can take on the common Fairy-types such as Sylveon and Scream Tail that Hariyama struggles with, while in return, Hariyama can help take on common Dark-types such as Incineroar and Scrafty that may threaten them. Hariyama appreciates entry hazard setters such as Gligar, Rhyperior, and Bronzong that can help chip opposing Pokemon that Hariyama struggles with such as Sylveon and Scream Tail, while in return Hariyama can use common removal options such as Tsareena and Altaria as a potential switch in opportunity to either start setting up or to proc Guts. Pokemon that can help get in Hariyama such as Kilowattrel, Vaporeon, and Incineroar are great partners, as they can get it in against Pokemon such as Rhyperior, Amoonguss, and Scrafty so Hariyama can start setting up.

Other Options
====

Belly Drum alongside Sitrus Berry can be used to give Hariyama a more immediate power boost on more offensive teams. Assault Vest variants trade Hariyama's sweeping potential for the ability to take on special attackers such as Chandelure and Raikou. Thick Fat allows Hariyama to take on Fire-type attacks from the likes of Chandelure and Incineroar much more easily, but typically Hariyama prefers the status punishing that Guts provides. Ice Punch allows Hariyama to hit the likes of Altaria, Gligar, and Scyther for massive damage. Flame Orb alongside Facade can be used to give Hariyama an immediate boost while also giving it a strong neutral option into the likes of Altaria and Amoonguss.

Checks and Counters
====

**Fairy-types**: Fairy-types such as Sylveon, Diancie, and Scream Tail can be a pain for Hariyama, as they can take either Drain Punch or Knock Off very easily, and hit it back for massive damage in return with either Hyper Voice, Moonblast, or Dazzling Gleam respectively. However, Heavy Slam can heavily damage all of these and aside from Diancie, they can struggle against Hariyama if it clicks Tera Steel.

**Flying-types**: Flying-types such as Flamigo, Altaria, and Cramorant are a real struggle for Hariyama, as they can easily take Drain Punch and threaten Hariyama out with Brave Bird or Hurricane. However, Tera Steel can potentially allow Hariyama to either hit them back for massive damage or use these Pokemon as a setup opportunity.
