[OVERVIEW]

Hariyama stands out in NU as a devastating sweeper or as a reliable tank, able to utilise its ability Guts to punish status moves from the many common defensive Pokemon such as Bellibolt, Vaporeon, and Altaria, and use these as opportunities to deal massive damage. With access to Drain Punch, Hariyama can keep itself healthy over the course of a game to potentially brawl with Pokemon such as Flygon and Breloom that might otherwise overwhelm it. However, Hariyama can struggle a lot with common Fairy- and Flying-types in the tier such as Sylveon, Flamigo, and Cramorant, as they can take the majority of its attacks and hit it back for super effective damage. Hariyama is also very slow, meaning even mid speed Pokemon such as Tsareena, Klefki, and Altaria can hit it before Hariyama has a chance to respond, limiting its sweeping potential.

Drain Punch allows Hariyama to sustain itself over the course of the battle while Close Combat hits much harder, OHKO'ing Flygon and 2HKO'ing Vaporeon at +1. Knock Off allows Hariyama to hit common Ghost-types such as Chandelure and Houndstone while also removing items from switch-ins such as Altaria and Gligar. Bullet Punch gives Hariyama the ability to pick off faster weakened Pokemon such as Flamigo and Munkidori, while Heavy Slam allows Hariyama to OHKO the likes of Sylveon and Scream Tail at +1. Leftovers gives Hariyama recovery outside of Drain Punch, which allows it to set up much easier. Guts allows Hariyama to punish common status spreading moves such as Will-O-Wisp, Scald, Thunder Wave, and Toxic from common defensive Pokemon such as Altaria, Vaporeon, Klefki, and Amoonguss. 124 Speed EVs allows Hariyama outspeed the likes of Vaporeon, Sylveon, and Swampert, with the rest going into Attack and then Special Defense. Tera Steel boosts the power of Bullet Punch and Heavy Slam, allowing the former to 2HKO Flamigo and Munkidori at +1 after Stealth Rock, while allowing the latter to OHKO both Sylveon and Scream Tail at neutral. It also flips Hariyama's weakness to Flying-, Psychic-, and Fairy-type attacks from the likes of Flamigo, Munkidori, and Sylveon respectively.

Hariyama fits primarily on bulky offense and balance teams, who appreciate its ability to punish common defensive staples such as Vaporeon and Bellibolt. Steel-types such as Bronzong and Copperajah are great for Hariyama, as they can take on the common Fairy- and Psychic-types such as Sylveon, Scream Tail, and Munkidori that Hariyama struggles with, while in return, Hariyama can help take on common Dark-types such as Incineroar and Scrafty that may threaten them. Hariyama appreciates entry hazard setters such as Gligar, Rhyperior, and Bronzong that can help chip opposing Pokemon that Hariyama struggles with such as Sylveon and Scream Tail, while in return Hariyama can use common removal options such as Tsareena and Altaria as a potential switch in opportunity to either start setting up or to proc Guts. Pokemon that can help get in Hariyama such as Kilowattrel, Vaporeon, and Incineroar are great partners, as they can get it in against Pokemon such as Rhyperior, Amoonguss, and Scrafty so Hariyama can start setting up.

Knock Off allows Hariyama to hit common Ghost-types such as Chandelure and Houndstone while also removing items from switch-ins such as Altaria and Gligar. Bullet Punch gives Hariyama the ability to pick off faster weakened Pokemon such as Flamigo and Munkidori. Heavy Slam allows Hariyama to hit Fairy-types such as Sylveon and Scream Tail that might otherwise wall Hariyama for large damage, Ice Punch allows Hariyama to hit the likes of Altaria, Gligar, and Scyther for massive damage while also surprising Flygon, and Earthquake can hit Poison-types that can usually wall it such as Galarian Slowbro and Overqwil for big damage. Assault Vest allows Hariyama to soak up special attacks from the likes of Chandelure and Raikou, and respond back with its own powerful attacks. Guts allows Hariyama to punish common status spreading moves such as Will-O-Wisp, Scald, Thunder Wave, and Toxic from common defensive Pokemon such as Altaria, Vaporeon, Klefki, and Amoonguss; which all give it an Attack boost. 180 speed EV's outpaces Adamant 252 Speed Rhyperior while also getting the jump on Vaporeon that try to speed creep Rhyperior, with the rest going into Attack and then Special Defense. Tera Steel boosts the power of Bullet Punch and Heavy Slam, allowing the former to 3HKO Flamigo and Munkidori after Stealth Rock, while allowing the latter to OHKO both Sylveon and Scream Tail at neutral. It also flips Hariyama's weakness to Flying-, Psychic-, and Fairy-type attacks from the likes of Flamigo, Munkidori, and Sylveon respectively.

Hariyama fits primarily on bulky offense and balance teams, who appreciate its ability to punish common defensive staples such as Vaporeon and Bellibolt while also helping take on powerful special attackers such as Chandelure and Raikou. Due to Hariyama's lack of longevity, Hariyama heavily appreciates Pokemon that can help sustain it, such as Wish from Vaporeon and Sylveon, or Leech Seed from the likes of Wo-Chien. Steel-types such as Bronzong and Klefki are heavily appreciated by Hariyama, as they can take on common Flying-, Psychic- and Fairy-types such as Scyther, Munkidori, and Sylveon that Hariyama struggles against, while in return Hariyama can take on powerful special attackers such as Chandelure and Goodra that might threaten them out. Hariyama particularly struggles against Poison-types such as Galarian Slowbro and Toxtricity if Hariyama does not have Earthquake. Therefore, Pokemon such as Rhyperior and Copperajah that can help take on these Poison-types are great partners for Hariyama. Pivot Pokemon such as Flygon, Bellibolt, and Vaporeon can help Hariyama get into battle against Pokemon such as Bronzong and Tsareena to allow Hariyama to start wallbreaking.

Other Options
====

Belly Drum alongside Sitrus Berry can be used to give Hariyama a more immediate power boost on more offensive teams. Thick Fat allows Hariyama to take on Fire-type attacks from the likes of Chandelure and Incineroar much more easily, but typically Hariyama prefers the status punishing that Guts provides. Ice Punch allows Hariyama to hit the likes of Altaria, Gligar, and Scyther for massive damage. Headlong Rush can be used as an alternative on sets using Earthquake to allow Hariyama to clealy 2HKO the likes of Galarian Slowbro while having a solid chance to 2HKO Overqwil at the cost of losing defensive utility. Flame Orb alongside Facade can be used to give Hariyama an immediate boost while also giving it a strong neutral option into the likes of Altaria and Amoonguss.

Checks and Counters
====

**Fairy-types**: Fairy-types such as Sylveon, and Scream Tail can be a pain for Hariyama, as they can take either Drain Punch or Knock Off very easily, and hit it back for massive damage in return with either Hyper Voice, Moonblast, or Dazzling Gleam respectively. However, Heavy Slam can heavily damage all of these and they can struggle against Hariyama if it clicks Tera Steel.

**Flying-types**: Flying-types such as Flamigo, Altaria, and Cramorant are a real struggle for Hariyama, as they can easily take Drain Punch and threaten Hariyama out with Brave Bird or Hurricane. However, Tera Steel can potentially allow Hariyama to either hit them back for massive damage or use these Pokemon as a setup opportunity and the first two must be wary of Ice Punch

**Psychic-types**: Psychic-types such as Munkidori and Meloetta are massive threats for Hariyama, as they can force it out very easily with their STAB Psychic attacks. However, they do have to be careful about switching into Hariyama as Knock Off deals massive damage to them, and Munkidori in particular has to be careful as a Toxic Chain activation can turn Hariyama into an even greater threat for its team.

Working on the QC for this, meanwhile, Heatranator I’d like you to make AV a full set. I recommend Adamant 252 Atk / 76 SpD / 180 Spe, which outpaces Adamant 252 Spe Rhyperior (and Vaporeon creeping that Rhyperior)

QC 1/2 when implemented :)

Bullet Punch gives Hariyama the ability to pick off faster weakened Pokemon such as Flamigo and Munkidori. Heavy Slam allows Hariyama to hit Fairy-types such as Sylveon and Scream Tail that might otherwise wall Hariyama for large damage, add ice punch explanation here - gligar, altaria, surprise ohko on flygon while Earthquake can hit Poison-types that can usually wall it such as Galarian Slowbro and Overqwil for big damage. **Psychic-types**: mention munki, meloetta, mention that munki has to be cautious because a toxic chain proc can make yama more of a threat
