This team is ORAS OU but i just wanted to speculate about what what to expect in Sun and Moon. Since its a forum i want to know what your predictions are. What Pokemon do you expect to get megas? What will their abilities be? Or just any speculations or prediction you wanna throw out there!
About the team below: this is my go to OU Team, normally i put mega-Gengar in the place of volcarona but because I'm speculating that mega-volcarona will be a thing in sun and moon i wanted to throw volcarona into the mix! this team is designed to center around Dragonite and Mega volcarona who will either set-up and sweep or go for the out of the gate sweep. Fair warning, this team is kind of slow, volcarona and latias are the fastest its got. luckily the rest tend to be bulky with the exception of bisharp who has priority in sucker punch. the trick to making this team work is switching often to get what you need done.
NÍÐHÖGGR (Dragonite) (F) @ Choice Band
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Outrage
- Extreme Speed
- ice punch
- Earthquake
I will lead with Dragonite most of the time as it seems that most people expect Excadrill to be my lead as they send out an e-quake user, fighter or fire type to counter it. thanks to Dragonites excellent move pool hes got an answer that will either always do at least neutral damage. obviously with Multiscale D-Nite will be able to tank anything that isn't super effective for the first hit and with choice scarf will punish her attacker with tons of damage if not an OHKO, if you lead with dragonite i don't recommend using Outrage for the first move as it just becomes set up bait for fairies. instead take the hit and do at least some damage while scouting out the enemies team. Dragonite will either force a switch or make your opponent reveal their moveset. early in the game make sure not to let Dragonite go down, if she is still alive she will easily sweep late game. obviously her EVs are for maximum sweepage. i found this team had issues dealing with flting ground type Pokemon specifically so i changed fire punch to ice punch to counter those threats.
Naevus (Excadrill) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Rapid Spin
- rock slide
- Iron Head
Naevus' role seams pretty self explanatory just from looking at his moves and stats. i chose him because he's the best spin blocker in the Meta. if the opponent sets up entry hazards switch into excadril and get rid of them. excadrills massive attack stat will punish any pokemon who tries to put the hazards back up and in general is a solid special wall. avoid fire and fighting and e-quake users. switch excadrill into special attackers, fairies and poison types and hit them hard with either e-quake or iron head. be careful not to let excadrill go down to early as hazard removal in very important.
Mothra (Volcarona) @ Passho Berry
Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Morning Sun
- Fiery Dance
- Bug Buzz/giga drain
- Quiver Dance
My second sweeper Mothra (accepting nickname suggestions, i like creative ones) I am excited about. Mega Volcarona will probably be a thing in pokemon sun and moon, i believe this because volcarona is the sun pokemon + plus it is amazing! how can it not get a Mega? being the sun pokemon and getting a Mega i dont believe it is too far of an assumption to assume its ability will be drought. drought would synergism will with volcarona which car learn morning sun to heal 3/4th of your HP in a single turn! the sunlight will boost your fire type attacks and weaken water attacks which are super effective. combine that with minimal set up thanks to quiver dance and Mega-volcarona might just hit uber! (knock on wood) obviously fire blast will be your go to move but if you run up against an opponent that resists fire then either use bug buzz or giga drain. bug buzz will get the stab bonus and will hit most things for neutral damage. giga drain is a good option as well as it hits rock and water types hard, both of which can pose a threat to Mothra. just like with dragonite keep stealth rock off the field as switching mothra into it will reduce you to 1/2 HP. if you have to a morning sun should put you back at full heath as long as you arent outsped, but it will cost you a turn and should be avoided if possible. also watch out for flying types in particular talonflame who will resist everything and always out speed and kill you with brave bird. volcarona can counter water type pokemon with if it is holding the passho berry though it is risky, if you can set up a quiver dance take the water type hit and respond with giga drain, be warned though if you don't get the kill you'll likely go down to the next hit + it only works once!
Arthur (Bisharp) (M) @ Black Glasses
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 52 SpD / 204 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Pursuit
- Iron Head
- Knock Off
i chose Bisharp because he's a cleaner. having two dragon types in the form of latias and dragonite mean fairies are a significant threat. he is a easy choice to take out any fairy type pokemon as he resists just about everything in a fairies arsenal. (lets just hope a fairy fighting type isn't in sun and moon) Bisharp also serves a role as a pursuit trapper and can take out fairies and ghost types efficiently. Arthurs EV spread is less about sweeping and more about confirming kills. if Bisharp Doesn't have a fairy or a Psychic type to take care of he still can do lots of damage to just about anything else. be warned though, Bisharp is not particularly bulky and will go down without fail when up against a fighting move. luckily almost everything else on this team resists fighting moves so it shouldn't be hard to counter.
Columbine (Clefable) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 248 HP / 248 SpD / 12 Spe
Calm Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell
- Moonblast
Basic cleric, Columbine is a wall if you need her to be with unaware wish and protect and is always your best answer to a Pokemon who has successfully set up against you. she can take the hits fairly easily hit back and heal up, wash and repeat until the set up Pokemon is either down or switches out. alternatively use Columbine as your cleric. switch into her to remove status from your team or heal up dragonite or any other pokemon you think you'll need late game. obviously watch out for the usual fairly threats but this team should be able to counter poison and steal types without too much trouble.
Lemongrab (Latias) @ life orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Surf/thunderbolt/psyshock
- Draco Meteor
- Defog
- Healing Wish
Lemongrab is on the team to make your opponent scream UNACCEPTABLE! Lemongrab's high special stat combined with surf to take out dangerous rock types, and Draco meteor for sheer damage will usually go to good use. thunderbolt and psychock are also good options as t-bolt deals with bulky water types who often carry ice beam which can do damage to your dragons. psyshock is another good option as your opponent may put out a special wall to counter Lemongrab. beyond that defog is to remove the entry hazards which i cannot stress the importance of removing and healing wish? Well that's for Dragonite bring him back to full health late game and you can almost always call the match right there.
