I've been trying to make a good sun team for some time now. As it's the fastest and strongest weather out there.
Balance has been the biggest challenge. After trying out so many different leads, I had a mixed weather idea, and settled on t-tar as my stealth rock user of choice.
Ninetales (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Drought
EVs: 112 HP / 224 SAtk / 56 SDef / 116 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Fire Blast
- SolarBeam
- Sunny Day
The ev spread on this guy puts me at 263 speed, which is the magic number for outspeeding Poli and other unscarfed leads. It does allow poli to bring the rain though. So it's a tough choice to decide to be faster or slower. With sunny day though, I can afford the luxury, switch the weather and take a low power scald that usually does around 23% damage. I can then counter with an energy ball, which either kills the toad or forces a switch.
Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Superpower
Finding a reliable stealth rock layer has been pretty hard on this sun team. I have tried them all, and seem to have the most fun with this guy. As Sable eye has a lot of stall fun in the sand, as sand and burn damage rack up fast! He also helps me not get screwed if Rain conquers my sun fun. In this metagame I refuse to allow a weather team dominate the weather war. This guy counters other t-tars who once gone allow me to either abuse Landorus, or switch to perma sun. Pursuit is for trapping annoying Ghosts, and the Lati Twins.
Victini @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Victory Star
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- V-create
- Fusion Bolt
- Brick Break
- Zen Headbutt
This is my fire sweeper. We all know how strong he is. V-Create makes him stronger than most uber's, and when in the sun stab + sun boost = not much survives. I can always take out one poke with him before switching. I can take 2 out if someone switches in a slow poke. Than I switch, and can do it all over again. This guy is a beast. He is set up to be at 300 speed after 1 V-Create to sometimes get the odd second kill in there. I am open to poke changes here though, as I know there is a lot of heavy hitting fire types out there. Im not keen on Volcarona as w/o rapid spin we all know it is useless.
Heatran may be a viable switch as sand really doesn't bother him, and he can thrive in either weather. Plus Synergy wise he provides a lot of needed resistances.
Landorus (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Sand Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- U-turn
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Explosion
This is my main scouter, and Volcarona counter. It absolutely destroys me without this guy. Earthquake in the sand is my preferred stab. U-Turn is for scouting. Explosion is great for when this guy has been worn down by scouting. Being choice scarfed also gives me the peace of mind that at any percentage of health I can retreat him, and bring him in for a revenge Explosion.
Lilligant (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 120 HP / 252 SAtk / 136 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Growth
- Giga Drain
- Sleep Powder
- Hidden Power [Ice]
This is my favorite poke on the team. She is a beast. The ev's put her over +1 landorus and that gets the job done just fine for her. The rest is for power. If giga drain or Ice wont ohko you(Being that you don't have a x4 weakness to it, yes there is many, or are below 70 percent with a 2x weakness) she will put you to sleep, grow to ridiculous power and sweep your team. After killing you, she may put the next to sleep and grow to 1100 power. This ends your game. Blissey at this point is 2hko, and with giga drain recovering me you aren't going to kill me. In the sun, her real only threat is priority ice shards, and choiced hp fire latios. Outside of the sun she has lots of threats, but will be the last poke you see if I lost the weather war and couldn't get sunny day up.
For those of you that wonder why I went with her over Venusaur, it's purely for surprise tactics. Ppl expect her to put them to sleep. Which works wonders on coming in to a setting up d-nite with Lum Berry. Max hp and multi scale d-nite gets hit for around 40 percent with unboosted hp ice. If it has took stealth rock damage, it dies every time.
Sableye (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Recover
- Will-O-Wisp
- Taunt
- Sunny Day
This gal is my favorite stall pokemon ever. She is walled by fire pokes though. Unless they are running life orb and flare blitz. Than I kinda laugh and sub a lot. Im looking at you Darmanitan. She is my stop set up pokes in their tracks girl, and a lot of the time my lead, and switch into fighting moves, and rapid spin blocker. Just so you can appreciate what she does, in 9 turns of burn you die. I can sub recover 32 times. If you aren't carrying leftovers I can literally out last 3 pokes not carrying leftovers. Blissey Chansey and Deoxys-D are completely walled by this set if they carry seismic toss. Scizor gets laughed at, life orb scizor really gets laughed at, as he dies in 4 turns and I always end with 57 percent of my health left if he gets a sd up. If he doesn't I have 80 percent. Special attackers, the now rare magic bouncers and whimsicott get the better of him though. They do get burned/taunted and revenge killed in a hurry though. But there is the odd team that this guy is completely useless against. He still is good at wasting some time. If I can find a way to get toxic spikes on this team, then no game would go by he wasn't useful, as the pokes that get rid of toxic dont fare well against him. I just dropped substitute recently as I needed that sunny day support. It changes things for this team drastically, but couldn't think of a poke to give it to outside of him. I wish Deoxys could have it, but he becomes set up fodder without Toxic.
Pics and a threat list coming soon.
