Sunny Day Team [UU]

Hello, this is a team that has been tried and is not as gimmicky as it looks. The main focus of the team is to keep the skies sunny, and to abuse chlorophyll and the extra Fire type boost.

The Team

424Ambipom.PNG

Ambipom @ Heat Rock
Ability: Technician
EV's: 252 HP/6 Atk/252 Spe
Jolly nature (+Spe, -SAtk)

- Fake Out
- Sunny Day
- Taunt
- U-Turn

Ambipom provides a fast but frail lead who sets up Sunny Day well and succesfully. He also prevents rocks from going up usually, and that can save my team, this means that Typhlosion can still have his full power eruption after switching in. He generally doesn't live until the end of the match but most leads dont and he was the best I tried. The strategy is pretty obvious - Fake Out, Taunt (if possible), Sunny Day, U-Turn to run away and hopefully get the switch advantage.

480Uxie.png

Uxie @ Heat Rock
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/194 Def/64 SDef
Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk)

- Knock Off
- Sunny Day
- Fire Punch
- Thunderpunch

Uxie provides a bulky Sunny Dayer that can get rid of my opponent’s items. Uxie can withstand an assortment of hits and because of the completely even defences. Thunderpunch is for waters who like to come in and stop the sun on rain dance teams (which are becoming increasingly popular in UU it seems), and Fire Punch is there for obvious reasons. The EV spread is a little basic but I wanted to make him as defensive as possible, so he can come in many times to keep the weather in my control. He doesn't fit in excellently with the rest of the team, but he does provide a bulky sunny dayer.

257Blaziken.png

Blaziken @ Petaya Berry
Ability: Blaze
EV's: 28 HP/
228 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

- Agility
- Substitute
- Flamethrower
- Baton pass

Blaziken has replaced Drifblim, because he fits in so much better with the team's theme. He passes off speed and a possible SAtk boost to Tangrowth, so that he can sweep without the sun. He however is strong enough that after a Petaya boost and Agility, he can outspeed and KO many threats. My problem with him is that he doesn't pass the SDef boost from Drifblim's calm minds so if anyone can find something that fits in well with the team and that Baton Pass Calm Mind, the I would be grateful. Altogether though he makes him a pretty nice addition to the team.

465Tangrowth.png

Tangrowth @ Leftovers
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 200 Atk/80 SAtk/228 Spe
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)

- Power Whip
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Earthquake
- Sunny Day

Tangrowth is probably only on this team because of its good defence, otherwise Exeggutor would be in his place. However, Tangrowth fills his role as a sweeper very well, and with speed from Chlorophyll or Agility and the power from Petaya Berry passed to him, he’s quite a beast. Power Whip is there for STAB while HP[Fire] and Earthquake give pretty decent coverage (HP gets a sunny day boost as well). Sunny day is mostly filler but if anyone has a better suggestion I'd gladly listen. He used to be a special Tangrowth but he is now mixed and makes a much more effective wall breaker.

059Arcanine.png

Arcanine @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 6 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

- Extremespeed
- Howl
- Flare Blitz
- Iron Head

Arcanine is my favourite Pokémon of all time, ever since the RBY generation. He comes in quite late in the game and can cause some damage with his powerful, boosted Extremespeed. If any ghosts or steels come in to spoil his fun, he can Flare Blitz them to death. Iron head is there to round off coverage and to flinch slower Pokémon. He could be using Solarbeam for a Sunnybeamer set but since I have Tangrowth, it isn't really needed. Since Arcanine is rather bulky, he can get in at least one howl in usually, but it generally doesn't cut it, so I'd be glad to find a replacement, with better options.

157Typhlosion.png

Typhlosion @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Blaze
EV's: 144 Atk, 252 SAtk, 112 Spe
Mild nature (+SAtk, -Def)

- Eruption
- Earthquake
- Overheat
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Typhlosion replaces Nidoking as the late game Scarfer/revenge killer. He can kill many things (especially in the sun) and with 150 power Eruption, he can wreak some havoc. EQ is mainly there for coverage, whilst Overheat is there for when he's damaged. HP ice takes care of Altaria mainly and anything that resist the other moves. He does his job fairly well and no major problems have occured yet.

This is my first RMT and I hope that it was all right, tell me if there are any problems with the way it has been set out or anything. Thanks for reading, the RMT and please help me with EV spreads on some Pokemon, such as on Uxie. Also tell me if there are any problems with the team at all, and if I should replace anyone on it.

I had a UU SD team a while ago, and they work pretty well. The main problem I see with this team is that you're not really using the Sunny Day to your advantage, you only have 1 pokemon who uses SD to their advantage (Tangrowth with Chlorophyll). Sure a couple of your pokemon have a fire move that gets boosted in the sun, but there are plenty of other ways to use the sun to your advantage. Pokemon with Chlorophyll, Leaf Guard, and Solar Power are all great for a SD team. One more thing, Typhlosion is a beast in the sun.

Good luck with the team.

An adamant/swords dance trangrowth can be used well to some good success as well. I usually set him up with light screen support and para support (give t'wave to uxie perhaps?)

I have a few suggestions for this team:

First, I suggest using Ambipom over Persian in your lead spot. It can use the exact same moveset, has the exact same speed, has slightly better defenses, and noticeably better Attack.

As for Tangrowth, I think that Ancientpower is a weak choice for filler. I either suggest Focus Blast, which is too inaccurate imo but packs a lot of power, or changing Tangrowth to a MixTangrowth. If you use MixTangrowth, I suggest changing Solarbeam and Ancientpower to Power Whip and Earthquake. These two are much more powerful and reliable attacks than the ones you have now, and I think you will be pleased with the outcome. If you do use it, I suggest changing the EVs and nature to the MixMojonbo set EVs and nature.

I agree that Drifblim doesn't fit well on this team. Off the top of my head, Blaziken is one of those few Fire-types that can Baton Pass. It can pass Agility, Swords Dance, Subs, and Berry Boosts. In addition, it has a surprise factor, since most people will expect a straight-up attacking Blaziken. To make things even better, Blaziken packs enough power to attempt a sweep itself if the need arises. You already have 3 Sunny Day-ers, so losing Drifblim doesn't hurt that cause.

Lastly, I've noticed that you have only one Chlorophyll user and one Fire-type. I think you should probably consider replacing Arcanine, Uxie, and/or Nidoking with some Pokemon that can abuse the sun better. I can't think of any off the top of my head, but...yeah.

That's all for now, good luck with your team!

Thank you for the help given I will change Drifblim for Blaziken, and possibly switch to MixGrowth. I'll change my scarf user to something better as well.

Threat list coming soon hopefully.

Again thank you for the help and any more comments will be appreciated.
