ORAS OU Super Generic OU Team

[Boomy]

This team is based around mega Medicham. I built this team to climb the ladder in OU its fun to use and ive gone from 1000 to 1350 rather easily just not sure about higher up on the ladder. A major issue i have that have not found a way to fix is not having a defog or rapid spin which breaks my Magneton's study and hurts Talonflame. So i believe there is a lot that could be tuned in this team. Stealth Rocks is my biggest weakness but not sure what to do to deal with them.

Part 1 Team Building

Team building thought process

I started with wanting to make a team around Medicham and Clefable and since one of medichams biggest weaknesses is getting burned i knew that Clefable with magic guard would be the perfect partner. and it would help with switch ins against Medichams counters.

I then added Rotom-Wash to my team to kill flying types and break the stallers that are all to common in the ladder. It also helps me by Will-O-Wisping any physical sweepers that i find while still being a strong pivot to go back into Medicham. Also pain split is great for taking out stalling pokemon.

I wanted a stealth Rocker that could easily deal with grass or poison types that while being about to dragon tail any pokemon trying to setup. He allows me to also chip down other pokemon with rough skin and rocky helmet.

I needed a way to kill fairies and revenge kill pretty much anything else. So i went with Spec Magneton he can revenge kill most Pokemon with thunderbolt. Also this a a much needed fairy killer flash cannon will OHKO most fairies I encounter if they have not setup at all.

This choice was incredibly hard to make I debated for awhile and i realized this would be my best choice because A. Its an incredibly strong sweeper and when i ran my team though " Break My Team" I say i was extremely weak to Venusaur, Gengar and Celebi. TalonFlame is able to OHKO Celebi and Gengar 100% of the time which is incredibility important for this team to do well.

Part 2 Sets

Thunder Thighs (Medicham-Mega) @ Medichamite
Ability: Pure Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Ice Punch
- Fake Out
- Zen Headbutt
This is a pretty standard set for Mega Medicham. 2 stab moves and fake out for free mega and ice punch for coverage. After i take out any threats to him he can sweep a team. He is the core of this team and is strong enough to take out a lot of threats. I prefer Jolly to try and outspeed every possible Pokemon it can.

Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Cosmic Power
- Fire Blast
- Stored Power
- Soft-Boiled
This is were my set gets odd. This set is all about sending it in on something that can kill me or something that also wants to setup. Cosmic Power lets me get extremely bulky but still do alot of damage with stored power. Fire Blast is for Ferrothorn and Scizor. Soft-Boiled is for the recovery and Magic Guard so i cant be toxic stalled. It is a great poke that can switch into pretty much anything and do not have to fear being burned.

Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Will-O-Wisp
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump

Very standard Rotom-Wash set. He is a great Pokemon that allows me to burn a threat then volt switch into Medicham for the free pivot and damage. He is also a great counter to Landorus which is a threat to my team. He can stop anything trying stall or setup with will-o-wisp and pain split.

Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 240 HP / 176 Def / 92 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Stealth Rock
- Dragon Tail
This is my stealth rocker and another anti stall Pokemon with dragon tail and he even with a defensive set he still packs a punch with earthquake. I really like having stealth rock to stop Mega Pinsir or a pivot heavy team. He can also stall out or kill alot of standard pokemon like ferrothorn or heracross. The speed is to help out speed while still being as bulky as needed.

EVs: 168 HP / 252 SpA / 88 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe

He is my revenge killer he OHKOS a lot of the threats to my team with thunderbolt or flash cannon. I prefer modest since i am sturdy speed does not matter since its job is to kill one Pokemon and either get out get sacked. He is also my primary fairy killer it is a great counter to Azumarill.

Its a standard Talonflame set and i run tailwind so i can u-turn into Medicham which helps him out speed even more Pokemon. He can outspeed Gengar and OHKO it with brave bird. He also kills Celebi and Venusuar who are the biggest threats to my team. I prefer jolly to grantee i out speed everything i encounter and other Talonflames since most people run it Adamant. Also its OU so i am obligated to use it.

Part 3 Battling
I normally lead Garchomp or Rotom-Wash. Garchomp is used to setup Rocks while Rotom is to stop him if it seems he has Pokemon that will need to setup like Dragonite. I mainly try to kill any threat to Medicham and let him sweep or Setup with Clefable to sweep with stored power. The rest of the team is there to either sweep when they cant or support them so that they can sweep.

Threats

Stealth Rocks is honestly one of the biggest threats to my team since i do not have defog or rapid spin.

If i lose Talonflame a celebi can do alot of damage to my team before it goes down.

I really dont have a way to kill it unless i setup with Clefable since my Rotom can only 3 hit ko it and he can set up can kill a lot of my team if he gets up one or two dragon dances.

hm. super generic ou team with non super generic ou sets! what an interesting layout of mons you have here. mmedi is a great pick for a mega in this current metagame and it seems that you've done a great job in making a team. but maybe i can give some suggestions and help as to where to improve on your team such that it can become a slight bit more efficient.

first off, i wanna mention that the mmedi set you're using is mildly outdated. psychic stab isnt that necessary on your team when you realise that most physically oriented mons that fear the psychic stab are mons that talon + chomp already deal with well. so why not change the mmedi set to something that can help deal with the team's present issues? let's change it up from your current set to adamant + thunder punch. this first of all relieves a lot of pressure on your zone since it needs to be a fairy check, a bulky water check and a steel trapper. that's a lot of work for one mon! so let's have mmedi help zone with his work

next, your clef set is kinda awful. as seen from your replay it does absolutely nothing to drills / sharps that like to come in and send clef back to your pokeball either fainted or afraid. now i would like to introduce you to one of the more interesting sets of clef that a lot of people theorymonned about but rarely tried by the faint of heart. here i shall introduce to you babiri berry clef + counter. babiri is a steel resist berry which allows your clef to stay in on deadly steel stabs and counter them back for the shock of their lives! you can read up more on it here http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/oras-creative-underrated-sets-v3.3571340/#post-6825825 where i posted a lot of stuff about it and even have a replay on it's effectiveness.

next up, we need to solve the problem of rocks for your team and to do that, i suggest running offensive defog latios over rotom-w. zone is already our flyspam check and coupled with the next change which im going to suggest which is to run rocky helmet lando-t over tankchomp , you now have very little problems with talon variants and flyspammers on the ladder. offensive defog latios makes sure that zard can't just switch in willy nilly and rocky helmet lando-t with u-turn and rocks help provide you a rocker as well as momentum gaining move that deters celebi. therefore we have a few good ways to deal with the threats that you've listed now~

lastly, i think we should change up the talon set a bit. i feel that with your team as it is, you may have a bit of trouble with stall / bulkier teams. therefore i recommend the next change to be from offensive lo talon to specially defensive stallbreaker taunt talon. why this change you may be asking, firstly, LO SD talon is a big no no. it ruins your talon set too quickly and considering you initially had no hazard controllers and no healing move on talon, talon becomes a lot more kill or be killed. which isn't good against stall-esque matchups since talon itself is already a great mon against the offense matchup. with this change, you now gain the ability to switch in on fairy type moves (which means your zone can be more of the flyspam switch in that you want it to be) and you have a good chance to win against stall and offensive teams alike.

this changes allow your team to survive a wide array of options: from offensive teams with electric / fly spam to bulkier teams with venutran to stall teams with msab and quag. hopefully this suggestions have helped you with your team's overall synergy and improve your laddering experiences. good luck with the ladder and have fun /cheers/

The addition of Tornadus also benefits your team because it does not fear Serperior and can end its sweep prematurely (it is advised to use Tornadus as a Serperior check in order to avoid the potential Glare).

The choice of Thunder Wave over Flame thrower was due to your team already having a Magnezone. However flamethrower will really aid in you attempt in breaking Stall. The additional power of Calm mind gives Clefable a means of potentially sweeping and breaking through walls e.g. opposing Rotom Wash.

PS: I also believe a change in Garchomp to Landorus T will benefit your team in terms of comfortably handling Bird Spam and Sand teams. If you decide on using Landorus-T over Garchomp (which I advise is the superior option), I recommend turning Magnezone into a Choice Scarf attacker. Why? Because Magnezone and M-Medicham's fake out will prevent Manaphy from potentially sweeping through your team.

howdy Boomy pretty nice team here and i really enjoy the use of mega medicham as it's a really threatening wall breaker in the ou metagame. however i have a couple of suggestions to help improve your team.

taking a quick glance at your team im not a fan that of the fact that you're running talonflame with no hazard removal not to mention that it has a life orb this means that it can only switch in once in an entire match, not to mention that you have u-turn+no recovery meaning that it will get worn down extremely easy by hazards+lo damage+recoil from bbird + flare blitz. another thing i dislike is that you also have sturdy magnezone with no hazard removal meaning that you'll have to have some way to prevent hazards. you also lack a keldeo switch in which is pretty dangerous especially the specs set and or if it is running focus blast as rotom-w can't switch in (secret sword still 2hkos after sr). so my first change im gonna suggest is going yache berry latias > rotom-wash. latias solves both of these problems as it can switch into keldeo and avoiding the 2hko from specs icy wind due to yache berry then retaliating hard with a psyshock which ohkos after rocks, whilst also providing you hazard support at the same time. lati can also still provide a ground immunity + resist waters which is really nice. not to mention it provide healing wish support for the rest of your team.

next i wanna say that stuff like mega diancie, gengar and band ttar can really be annoying. the former can ohko your whole team other than clefable, gengar due to its coverage can do the same where as the latter can deal tons of damage and your best bet is to cripple it with garchomp. for this reason i wanna suggest you going specially defensive hippowdon > garchomp. fully specially defensive hippo avoids the 2hko from a mega diancie's moonblast and avoids the 2hko from shadow ball + focus blast from gengar where as still being able to naturally evade the 2hko from a banded ttars superpower or crunch. this with an impish nature.

lastly i wanna suggest changing both your sets on clefable and talonflame. i honestly think cp clef isn't really good so i feel like switching to cm twave clef would be a wiser idea. cm is a good boosting move which can raise clefables special attack to pretty high levels after one calm mind and thunder wave can cripple some of its checks/counters such as talonflame and mega metagross. it also works well with hippo as hippo is able to hit ground types such as heatran which can be extremely annoying towards clefable. i also feel like you should change your talon to an bulky sd set as this can act as a sweeper and a wincon. not to mention it can cripple physical pokemon with will o wisp or even stallbreak with taunt. both of these sets also work well with healing wish lati as its able to healing wish to either when in need.

also if you really want, you could run bullet punch over ice punch on mega medicham to help your matchup vs weavile.

Yes, I would recommend replacing Talonflame with Tornadus as they both defeat similar target-Pokemon e.g. Venusaur. Plus unlike Talonflame, Tornadus isn't afraid of Stealth Rocks; which is a very common move. The idea of not having to stress over losing 50% of your HP every time you switch into a battle, should be more than ideal in my opinion (lol). Oh and Tornadus can also easily handle Gengar and Serperior's assaults. In short, Tornadus brings more to the table.

As for Medicham's moves, I heavily recommend using Bullet Punch (if using Bullet Punch, you need an Adamant Nature). With Medicham's high attack stat, you will often find yourself Spamming Fake out and Bullet Punch. The combination of Fake Out and Bullet Punch is often enough to KO fragile Pokemon or weakened targets. Bullet Punch is also capable of beating Mega Diancie in one shot, if this isn't enough excite you, then I don't know what will (lol).

I do not recommend Thunder Punch because both Rotom Wash and Magnezone have electric type moves of their own. I wouldn't chose Ice Punch because it mainly beats flying and dragon type Pokemon e.g. Landorus-T, the Lati-Twins etc. However, Rotom-W and Clefable already handle these threats :)

The only thing that Ice Punch can KO (and Rotom-W and Clefable cannot defeat) is Togekiss. But you already have Magnezone for that.

So Bullet Punch all the way. It's great for beating Gengar and weakened M-Lopunny as well. It is the superior option IMO :)
