SuperErinMan's RMT

My platinum team is nowhere near as good as my emerald one, but heres what ive decided on.

Team at a glance:

Gliscor Jolly @ (??)
EVs: 252 HP, 52 Def, 204 Spd.
Sand Veil.

Moves:
- Aerial Ace/EQ
- Bpass
- Roost
- Swords Dance

obvious physical baton passer with an attack to keep opponents at bay. Since the rest of my team is more physically-oriented, i chose swords dance over agility since most of them are already pretty fast. need an item, please.

dpffa454.png

Toxicroak Adamant/Jolly @ Life Orb/Damp Rock
EVs: 4 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spe
Dry Skin.

Moves:
- Rain Dance
- EQ/Stone Edge
- Poison Jab
- ???

Physical Sweeper. Ive been thinking about the item mostly: orb gives 30% more power for 10% HP (nulified because 12.5% is recovered thanks to rain dance + dry skin), but damp rock increases the # of turns rain dance is active, giving him more turns of recovery.

Im also thinking of dropping adamant nature for a speed+ nature to give croak the boost to outrun more pokés, and if i were to do that then life orb would be the item of choice to boost attack back to respectable levels.

Final thing for croak: I need something to fill the last move spot, preferably NOT the one not picked for EQ/Stone Edge (ex: if you say i should go with EQ, dont put stone edge for the last move spot). id like something different please, preferably more type coverage.

Ambipom Adamant @ silk scarf
4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
- fake out
- u-turn
- brick break
- return

'flinch and flee'. good with gliscor as it covers ice types post baton pass, and the attack boost combined with all physical moves is good. idea here is to jump back and forth between gliscor swords dance/BPass to ambipom fake out then brick break/u-turn to gliscor. more a gimmick, dont know if itll last long.

dpmfsa332.png

shiny Cacturne Timid ( i know its not the best nature, but its shiny so...) @ Big Root
252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
sand veil
- sucker punch
- needle arm
- substitute
- focus punch/drain punch

since its shiny i want to raise it. but anyways...
although timid isnt all that great, im trying to work around it. subpunching is the primary idea with drain punch for HP recovery with big root allowing for more subs. needle arm for STAB, sucker punch for priority if cac is still too slow. if ambipom faints then cacturne can fill in for the baton pass from gliscor.

208.png

Steelix Careful @ Lefties/Iron Ball
252 HP / 4Spd / 252 SpD
Rock Head
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
- Toxic/Gyro Ball
- Explosion

stealth rock and wall. trying to boost SpD to make it more viable as a wall for both ends of spectrum, although not sure if itll pay off. explosion is for last resort, or suicide to kill someone annoying, like, say, a baton passer with little defense/hp.

395.png

Infernape Modest @ Life orb/Expert Belt
64 Hp/ 252 SpA / 192 Spe
Blaze
- Flamethrower
- Grass Knot
- Focus Blast/Vacuum wave
- Nasty Plot

Nasty Plot sweeper. 'apes speed makes it viable for sweeping and with a type-diverse oveset like this (combined with nasty plot for SpAtk boost) ape is a very diverse special sweeper indeed. also covers ice weakness from gliscor and water weakness from steelix (with grass knot).

biggest threats for me are, i think, bulky waters. however, cacturne should be able to take care of them with needle arm providing they dont have ice type moves. ice types as a whole can be taken out by toxicroak, or infernape can work too if the ice type's a physical wall.

as you may have guessed im not completely competitive. im trying to be, but im not (yet). so i came here to look for advice.

So far it looks like you have a big ice weakness (2 pokemon 4x weak to ice), so maybe change Torterra or Gliscor. I think reading a few Pokemon Analysis' on http://www.smogon.com/dp/pokemon/ will help you in choosing movesets.

Lastly, read the RMT rules since you're not allowed to post incomplete teams, but i hope my little advice will help u finish making ur team asap.

Yea, where are we actually going here. Are you just gonna name ur platinum pokes.

As the above poster stated, I don't think you can post incomplete teams.

Don't use timid cacturne unless your going to make him speciel. I know hes shiny but heres the catch-shiny pokes don't have better stats then regular pokes. So if you want your team to be as competitive as possible, get an adamant cacturne (or jolly if you want)

Change infernape to either pure mixed with HP Ice or change focus blast to close combat. The drop in accuracy and power isn't useful. And if you think logically no one will send out there Tyranitar after you use nasty plot or any steel type pokemon. I really don't see what steelix ius doing for your team. He amplifies your weakness to ground and his typing doesn't provide much help. Bronzong is much better off in this spot because he has immunity to ground which your team needs because although gliscor has immunity to it, he isn't exactly a threat on the physical spectrum as one move makes him set up and can always be phazed out to prevent any set up. Gyarados with taunt will set up on gliscor and procede to sweep your team. If it has leftovers it's pretty much gg. I would replace ambipom with zapdos since it isn'y exactly doing much for this team. Go with defensive spread found on the strategy dex(I'd give it to you but my net is running slow). Change Gliscor to the standard SR set or replace him with this.

Mamoswine@ Focus Sash
Adamant
4 Hp/ 252 Atk/ 252 Spd
Snow Cloak
-EQuake
-Ice Shard
-SR
-Endevour

This serves as a lead killer. By using endevour against leads like azelf who try to hit you with fire balst you end up making them weak enough to take down with priority ice shard. Although this is a great set is sometimes fails to get up rocks. If you want a more reliable rocks placer go with suicide azelf lead.

Azelf@Focus Sash
Timid
4 Atk/ 252 SAtk/ 252 Spd
-Fire Blast/ Grass Knot
-Explosion
-Taunt/Psychic
-SR

If you add zapdos then it will be the only real reason to run taunt but I would go with psychic for better coverage. Grass Knot isn't standard but it serves as a counter to swampert leads who are starting to show up quite a bit as leads. The only major pokemon lead that was hit by fire blast was metagross who always has occa berry. and your better off using sr against it because it can take azelf down with meteor mash+ bullet punch. I'm sorry for changing your team up so much but it was needed. I would keep going and replace toxicroak with something but I'm guessing your using this team for wifi and that would just cause alot of hassle for you. If this isn't wifi let me know.

@mc2094:
no its not wifi just for battles with friends, but i want to be more competitive than the rest of them who just ev train all over the place. so i threw together this close to ideal team which counters most (if not all) their main threats: starmie (via cacturne) blissey (via toxicroak) and absol (via ambipom, physical recipient of swords dance, high speed+ brick break/u turn)

gliscor is a baton passer, im not willing to change it to a SRer, ill do that with azelf

toxicroak is there mainly just to see how well it could perform competitively

infernape was supposed to be special but the more i think of it close combat would be better for accuracy

steelix was there solely as an idea, i need a physical wall and when i saw its base defense i took it and tried to work around its sp def.

@Ubers are awesome:
ok what do you suggest for cacturne special then, considering its atk and spatk are the same?

@everyone: do you think ambipom is a good option? im worried itll be KOd too easily. (its the only one i got no suggestions for)

can someone suggest a physical wall plz, i need one since steelix isnt working out. either that or a leech seeder would be good too (tangrowth maybe)? i dont need a special wall because i already have a blissey that im fine with.

one last thing: id like to keep gliscor and toxicroak as they hold sentimental value to me. the other 4 can be moved around as seen fit.

ambipom might be a better choice for a lead because of fake out + technichian, you really stall your opponent from setting up those pesky stealth rocks, and once he flinches you can safely U-turn out.
