Introduction:
Hello, I am Doz, with another OU RMT I think my 4th in this tier now and my first in a suspect ladder. This team was created to try and show the viability of my favourite Dragon type in Haxorus. it has enough going for it to function in the current OU meta, probably more so with Aegislash in with it's ability to KO it with ease though Earthquake. It has a very hit and miss performance at the moment, poor play, hax and some (read a lot) over prediction in games costing me. It managed to only peak at 1273 ( still around halfway up the ladder ) with a win to loss ratio of 29/21 (1/4 was for a different version of the team, which I will mention in the team building section.) The alt I have been using this team with is the aptly named 'MakinHaxorusViable'.
Teambuilding Process:
Team In Depth:
Haxorus (F) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Mold Breaker
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 36 HP / 252 Atk / 220 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Taunt
- Dragon Dance
Role on the Team:
Physical Sweeper, Late Game cleaner, Stall breaker.
Descriptions:
Haxorus here is the centrepiece of the team, despite it's fall down into UU this gen. It still boasts the 147 base attack, that's pretty much Rayquaza level hitting, Mold Breaker to allow me to hit through Sturdy, Levitate and Unaware, and thanks to Dragon Dance, I can out speed the entire tier after 1 or 2 boosts. The moveset gives it pretty much everything it needs, Dragon Claw is the STAB of choice, it is used over Outrage for a couple of reasons: 1) With Fairies around I don't want to give a free switch in 2) I don't want to waste the Lum Berry on confusion. Earthquake complements it nicely, hitting resisting Steels for super effective damage. Also thanks to Mold Breaker it can hit levitating Pokemon such as Rotom, Gengar, Lati@S to name a couple. Taunt was chosen over a second coverage move to prevent status, hazards or set up attempts in front of me. Finally Dragon Dance gives me a boost to Attack and Speed, even at +1 I can usually attempt to sweep. This moveset is completely walled by Skarmory, and checked by Ferrathorn, however I have Magnezone to trap and KO those for me. The EVs and Nature are standard fare for Haxorus, Jolly over Adamant as I feel that that little bit extra speed is more necessary, especially with such high Attack anyway. I believe the EV's are to outspeed base 90's, max Attack and the rest in HP for a little extra bulk. Lum Berry is chosen over other items to prevent Paralysis or Burn from stopping a sweep attempt.
Synergy:
Fairy - Scizor, Magnezone
Dragon - Scizor, Magnezone, Sylveon
Ice - Scizor, Magnezone
Magnezone @ Choice Specs
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 72 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 180 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Volt Switch
Role on the Team:
Steel Trapper and Wall Breaker.
Descriptions:
Magnezone was the automatic choice next on the team, as it can handle many of Haxorus' walls and checks, primarily Ferrathorn, Skarmory and Scizor (though the latter isn't Haxorus specific). Specs was in my mind the most effective set for this role. Thunderbolt is the primary STAB and it hits the variety of Flying Types in the tier at the moment, along with some key threats such as Azumarrill. Flash Cannon is the Steel STAB and is only used to handle Fairies, ignoring Mawile, Azumarrill and Klefki. Hidden Power Fire is the key to the set, as it gets the super effective damage on the aforementioned threats, though Thunderbolt hits Skarmory harder. Volt Switch is the last move, to steal momentum, provided there isn't a Ground type to absorb the hit. The EV's are a little unusual, 252 SpA is obviously for maximum damage, the 180 Spe is to hit 200, which outspeeds uninvested base 80's i believe and lower, it also outspeeds standard builds for Scizor, Skarmory, some Mawile and bulky Bisharp's and Azumarrill's. The rest is in HP and SpD for a little extra bulk. Modest is used to give maximum input.
Synergy:
Ground - Celebi
Fighting - Celebi, Sylveon
Fire - Haxorus
Scizor (M) @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 136 Atk / 120 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Knock Off
- Defog
- Roost
Role on the Team:
The teams Mega, hazard removal, /Fairy killer.
Descriptions:
With Fairies being Haxorus' other major threat I had to put something on the team that can handle them with ease, enter Mega Scizor. Thanks to Bullet Punch, boosted by STAB and Technician, I can check or flat out KO most fairies in the tier that threaten my Dragons. The rest of the moveset is more support based, Knock Off to remove items from the opposing team, especially helpful when switch ins such as Keldeo, LAndorus, any fire type appear. Defog is the hazard removal, while not 100% vital (only 1 Rocks weakness) a well timed Defog can help me win without the opponent getting the odd bit of chip damage in. Roost is to offer some recovery. Similar to Magnezone I've gone for my own spread, maximum HP and 120 SpD allow me to tank a few special hits, including avoiding the OHKO on standard Clefable with Flamethrower 100% of the time, and avoiding the OHKO on Fire Blast around 40% of the time. The rest is put into Attack, with Adamant nature to give it some punch.
Synergy:
Fire - Haxorus
Sylveon (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Wish
- Heal Bell
- Protect
Role on the Team:
Special Wall, Cleric, 1st Keldeo check, Dragon switch in.
Descriptions:
Sylveon was chosen as an answer to the last of Haxorus' troubles, its own kind, Dragons. Thanks to it's shiny new Fairy typing I have an immunity to Dragon, which is very easy to take advantage of, with Dragons still very common. The set I have gone with is the standard specially defensive set, supporting the team through passing it's large Wishes and removing any status from the team. Wish is also it's own form of recovery, in conjunction with Protect, to heal 62% with each wish. Hyper Voice is chosen as the STAB, boosted by Pixilate and it has the ability to hit behind Substitute. In term's of EVs and Nature, it's maximum Special Bulk, and a little boost to it's special attack.
Synergy:
Poison - Scizor, Magnezone
Steel - Scizor, Magnezone (both except Heatran),
Kyurem-Black @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Fusion Bolt
Role on the Team:
Revenge Killer, Mixed Attacking threat, Secondary sweeper.
Descriptions:
Kyurem was chosen to work alongside Haxorus in the offensive side of things, while both are Dragons with Mold Breaker (well Teravolt in this case) they function differently. Kyurem-B is rarely seen using it's Scarf set, and as a result gives me a nice surprise factor to work with. With its nature and Scarf it can out speed +1 Adamant Zard X and KO with Draco Meteor or Earth Power. It also takes advantage of the surprise to handle Thunderus and Keldeo that would normally expect to out speed it. The moveset is primarily Special Based, with Fusion Bolt hitting off the higher Attack stat, hitting Keldeo and Azumarrill for super effective damage. Ice Beam is the most spammed STAB move, hitting Grounds, Flying, Dragon, Grass - including Mega Venusaur through Thick Fat - for super effective hits. Earth Power has fairly nice coverage alongside it, getting Steels, Rock, Poison, Electric coverage. Draco Meteor is the final attack, basically pressing the Nuke button, thanks to hits base power and STAB boost. The Nature and EVs are for maximum speed, power boost on the Special side with the leftover in Atk. The HP is odd, allowing 4 switches into Rocks if they are up.
Synergy:
Dragon - Scizor, Magnezone, Sylveon
Rock - Magnezone
Fairy - Scizor, Magnezone
Steel - Scizor, Magnezone
Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 220 SpD / 36 Spe
Calm Nature
- Giga Drain
- Recover/Earth Power
- Thunder Wave/Toxic
- Stealth Rock
Role on the Team:
(Subject to change) Second Special Wall, Hazard setter, Status absorber, Keldeo Check, Paralysis spreader.
Descriptions:
Celebi was the last member of the team chosen, while it seems to be have been forgotten for the best part of the X and Y meta, it happens to be an amazing Keldeo check, and for that reason it gained this slot. It also happened to set rocks, something that no other member can do. It can also absorb Status due to Natural Cure for if Sylveon faints, and is the primary Sleep counter as it is unaffecting by both Spore and Sleep Powder .It's current set is to allow it to take on Keldeo, Greninja, Landorus easily, though for the latter I have to be wary of Knock Off or Sludge Wave. Giga Drain is only attack on the set giving it some recovery to help its longevity. Recover is also used for the same reason, though I am considering running Earth Power and some Special Attack EVs to handle Heatran as well. Thunder Wave is the status used as it slows down a lot of Pokemon who can trouble Haxorus and to a lesser extent Kyurem. Toxic is also considered to allow me to deal with Stall a little better. Rocks is self explanatory to be honest. I have considered changing this into a more mixed wall/Physical wall to give my team a little more balance, though I have yet to test that. The current spread is to give maximum bulk, while speed allows me to outspeed max speed base 70s I believe.
Synergy:
Fire - Haxorus
Dark - None
Ghost - None
Bug - Scizor, Magnezone, Sylveon, Kyurem, Haxorus
Ice - Scizor, Magnezone
Flying - Magnezone
Outro
Well this is my team, I know it requires much work, but it has a lot of potential on which to build from, any suggestions will be appreciated and I look forward to all comments I get. Here is the importable and replays for you to look through.

The alt I have been using this team with is the aptly named 'MakinHaxorusViable'.
Teambuilding Process:
The starting point was always going to be Haxorus, wanting to use the Stall breaker, Sweeper set with Taunt. From there I had to make the team be able to cover anything that walls or counters the set.
My first port of call was the answer to Steel types that wall it, thanks to the Magnet Pull ability, and fantastic Special Attack the only choice was Magnezone, which being a Steel itself allows it to cover all 3 of Haxorus weaknesses too.
Next up was something to deal with Fairies, and to my mind there is NOTHING better than Mega Scizor, it also offers some fantastic utility for the team, in terms of hazard and item removal.
The final piece of the Haxorus support was Dragon slaying, which meant going for a Fairy, with its immunity to the type. As so far the team was very offensive I opted for something a bit more defensive and supportive and went for Cleric Sylveon.
The main core of the team was now sorted so I needed to fill out some additional roles to try and make this team effective, a revenge killer is something that is always appreciated, and I went for a Scarf Kyurem-B, it is a more uncommon set, and it can use this surprise factor to handle a lot of the big threats in the OU tier at present.
Finally I figured I could do with my own hazards, to give Haxorus, Magnezone and Kyurem better chance of getting various OHKOs and 2HKOs, I also wanted to cover the very dangerous Keldeo, so I went for another underrated Pokemon, in Celebi that resists both STABS and can usually take the coverage move very easily. It can offer addition team support too, in terms of Rocks, Status etc.
This was the first iteration of the team that went 13/7 in the first 20 battles. I felt that performance was lacking and I figured that Kyurem-B didn't offer effective synergy with the rest of the team, so I opted to replace it with something to could offer a similar function but fit the team better. I tried Scarf Hydreigon, as it offered a second Fire resist, Ground immunity, higher speed, Fire coverage in Fire Blast and less/easier to cover weaknesses. However the team performed terribly, only winning 1 of my first 5 battles with this set up, I quickly reverted to the original line up, and it performed a bit better but still not optimal.
After the removal of Hydreigon
