CAP Leader
Hi everyone! This thread will be used to post and log results of our SV CAP community surveys. The goal of these surveys is for the CAP Metagame Council to make more informed decisions regarding potential balance changes or bans by asking the general playerbase and qualified tournament players for their input.

The CAP Metagame Council has been watching the tier for a while now, and following the somewhat tumultuous introductions of buffed Kitsunoh and Sketch Necturna into the metagame, we thought now would be a fantastic time to gauge community consensus on a handful of contentious presences in the tier. The first survey will be up for roughly one week, so make sure you share your opinions as the information we glean from these surveys helps dictate the direction of the metagame as a whole!

The link to the first community survey can be found HERE.

If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM!

Hello everyone! We recently concluded our very first community survey, garnering 51 total responses, and 15 qualified responses (out of the 16 players who qualified for the CAP Ladder Tournament). This is a small sample size, but CAP is also quite a small community, so I'm pretty satisfied with the turnout! Thank you to everyone who submitted a response.

The small sample size also means that each voter's response carries a lot of weight, so everyone's voices really make an impact here; if you didn't respond this time, I encourage you to do so in the future to make your opinion truly heard. Hopefully we can continue using these surveys as a way to gauge community consensus on difficult issues. Now, getting into the results:

:hemogoblin: Enjoyment :hemogoblin:
  • Overall: 7.3 / 10
  • Qualified: 7.3 / 10
1731713939030.png

1731713944305.png
These are good numbers! With only a negligible .03 difference in responses between the general public and CAP Ladder Tour qualifiers, it seems that players on all fronts are enjoying the current SV CAP metagame.

:equilibra: Competitiveness :equilibra:
  • Overall: 6.8 / 10
  • Qualified: 7.1 / 10
1731714035750.png

1731714041799.png
These are also relatively high results. While not quite as high as enjoyment, and despite a minor discrepancy between the general public and Ladder Tour players, these numbers are more than satisfactory. However, there's always more work to be done!

:chuggalong: Chuggalong :chuggalong:
  • Overall: 2.9 / 5
  • Qualified: 3.5 / 5
1731714058595.png

1731714069231.png
Chuggalong was the most polarizing CAP we received responses on, with a fairly large discrepancy of .06 between the general public and qualified voters. While the general public's responses heavily varied but averaged right on the edge of whether Chuggalong needs a nerf or not, the players who qualified for the CAP Ladder Tour are clearly leaning towards nerfing Chuggalong.

:kitsunoh: Kitsunoh :kitsunoh:
  • Overall: 2.9 / 5
  • Qualified: 3 / 5
1731714108290.png

1731714122401.png
Responses were very split on whether or not Kitsunoh requires a nerf, indicating that it could essentially go either way. As opposed to the general public's responses on Chuggalong, which varied heavily, both the general public and qualified players for Kitsunoh answered right down the middle: 3, which correlated to a CAP being potentially nerf-worthy, was our most common response by far.

:cresceidon: Cresceidon :cresceidon:
  • Overall: 2.1
  • Qualified: 1.9
1731714513423.png

1731714518965.png
Despite Cresceidon's surge during the CAP Ladder Tour, it scored the lowest out of every CAP on the suvey, confidently indicating that it is not an issue for the time being.

:necturna: Necturna :necturna:
  • Overall: 3.1
  • Qualified: 2.8
1731714552828.png

1731714560645.png
Responses on Necturna were also quite split, with the general public very slightly believing a nerf is in order, and qualified voters very slightly believing a nerf is unnecessary. Notably, players seem somewhat polarized on Necturna, given that responses generally leaned towards twos or fours.

:necturna: Necturna Tiering Action :necturna:
  • Overall: Rage Fist ban: 43 | Movepool/stats nerf: 8
  • Qualified: Rage Fist ban: 12 | Movepool/stats nerf: 3
1731714663398.png

1731714670457.png
Overwhelmingly, both the general public and qualified players prefered a Rage Fist ban to a direct nerf to Necturna's stats and/or native movepool. If the Metagame Council indeed decides to take action on Necturna in the coming days, we will be banning Rage Fist from the SV CAP metagame.

:venomicon: Write-ins :venomicon:

This category will be optional in the future (whoops). Some notable write-ins:
  • Salt Cure Necturna
  • Cawmodore
  • Ban Tera
  • Unban Annihilape if Rage Fist is banned (x2)
  • Save Gliscor
  • Mass mini-nerf
  • Garganacl
  • Ogerpon-W
  • Knock Off Venomicon
  • Separate CAP from OU tiering
  • Buff Plasmanta
  • Buff Astrolotl
  • Lasen smells
  • Spoo smells
  • A better survey
Big thanks again to everyone who responded. If you have feedback on how this survey was conducted, whether that pertains to the language of questions, how we collected / reported data, potential questions to ask in the future, or anything else, please feel free to DM me; this was our very first survey so we are open to feedback of all kinds. The Metagame Council will be discussing where to move forward from here, with an announcement hopefully coming in the next few days. Stay tuned!

Hello again everyone! We just concluded our second community survey, garnering 35 total responses, and 21 qualified responses. These numbers are a bit smaller than our previous survey, but perhaps our very first community survey drawing a larger crowd is to be expected. I really encourage everyone to vote in the future since the sample size here is so small. Your vote matters! All in all, I'm decently satisfied with the turnout here, so thank you to everyone who took the time to submit a response.

Because the qualified votes make up almost two thirds of the overall votes, the qualified and overall scores are going to be quite close in general. I will make visual charts of the responses later, but for now I just wanted to get this data up so that everyone could see it. Alright then, let's get into the data:

:chuggalong: Enjoyment :chuggalong:
  • Overall: 6.8 / 10
  • Qualified: 6.4 / 10
While we'd ideally like for these numbers to be 7+, 6.8 and 6.4 aren't necessarily bad either. Notably, these are somewhat down from our enjoyment scores of 7.3 last year. It seems like people are definitely enjoying the metagame (qualified players slightly less so), but there's always room for improvement!

:revenankh: Competitiveness :revenankh:
  • Overall: 6.9 / 10
  • Qualified: 6.8 / 10
These competitiveness scores are also decent results. In fact, they're fairly close to the competitiveness scores of last year, which were 6.8 overall and 7.1 qualified. Interestingly enough, people seem to think the metagame is more competitive than it is enjoyable.

:arghonaut: Arghonaut :arghonaut:
  • Overall: 1.9 / 5
  • Qualified: 1.9 / 5
Great scores here for our friendly neighborhood bulky water Arghonaut. The pirate doesn't seem to be too overbearing right now.

:cresceidon: Cresceidon :cresceidon:
  • Overall: 3 / 5
  • Qualified: 3 / 5
Unfortunately, the same can't be said about CAP's other prominent bulky water, Cresceidon. A score of 3 is indicative that Cresceidon is potentially nerf-worthy. It is also in line with other CAPs that ended up being nerfed after receiving similar scores on last year's survey. Whether Cresceidon receives a nerf or not, it will be something the metagame council keeps a close eye on going forward.

:equilibra: Equilibra :equilibra:
  • Overall: 1.8 / 5
  • Qualified: 1.7 / 5
Despite Equilibra's number-one place atop the usage stats during CAPPL, it seems to be among the least of people's concerns in this metagame. We may finally buck the trend of having to nerf this mon every generation, which is great news.

:hemogoblin: Hemogoblin :hemogoblin:
  • Overall: 2.6 / 5
  • Qualified: 2.7 / 5
Responses about Hemogoblin were quite high in general. While not as high as other Pokemon such as Cresceidon, scores of 2.6 and 2.7 are definitely enough to put this CAP on the metagame council's radar. We'll be watching carefully to see where Hemogoblin moves in the future.

:kitsunoh: Kitsunoh :kitsunoh:
  • Overall: 1.9 / 5
  • Qualified: 1.9 / 5
Identical scores to Arghonaut here (after rounding). It seems as though Kitsunoh's nerf a while back did the trick. It is an incredibly strong CAP, but the general sentiment is that it's not too strong at all.

:gliscor: Gliscor :gliscor:
  • Overall: 3.3 / 5
  • Qualified: 3.5 / 5
Alright, now this is interesting. These are the highest scores by far across the survey. In fact, these scores are even higher than Chuggalong's scores last year before it was nerfed. The list of times that CAP has taken action on OU Pokemon is very short; typically, there is a very high bar for OU Pokemon to meet in order to be suspected in CAP. The metagame council will soon be discussing whether or not Gliscor meets this bar, and what action, if any, to take in the future.

:ramnarok: Ramnarok-Dormant :ramnarok:
  • Overall: 2.7 / 5
  • Qualified: 2.7 / 5
:ramnarok-radiant: Ramnarok-Radiant :ramnarok-radiant:
  • Overall: 2.7 / 5
  • Qualified: 2.5 / 5
It seems as though CAP's newest creation is faring well! With a score of 3 representing "just right", it looks like both Ramnarok formes are close to hitting the mark, just slightly on the weaker side. The metagame council won't be doing anything with this information, but it may be good to know for the upcoming Post-Play Lookback.

:venomicon: Write-ins :venomicon:

An exhaustive list of write-ins:
  • Kitsunoh + Garg balances feel too strong
  • Buff Cyclohm
  • Ban Tera, unban Annihilape, give back Explosion to Astrolotl
  • Chuggalong is slightly annoying
  • Kyurem
  • Kyurem x2
  • Ban Tera x2
  • Chugg again
  • Nothing really stands out as broken but Chugg is kinda annoying, and Cresc prob needs a small nerf
  • SV in general sucks, Cresc and Kit are the major problems, also remove Thunder from Ramnarok
  • Kyurem, Woger, Garg, free Rage Ape free Palafin
  • Unnerf Kit
  • Buff Voodoom
  • Buff Jumbao
  • Please give Smokomodo V-Create
  • I wanna see spoo kiss me
Certainly some interesting responses here! Kyurem and Chuggalong got a few mentions each — the meta council discussed them briefly before this survey, but I will bring them up again to further gauge thoughts. Lasen come fly to chicago and you might just get your wish.

Lastly, I'd like to thank everyone who responded one more time, your voices really do impact the direction we take this tier in. As always, please DM me if you have any questions or issues with how this survey was conducted. I hope we can continue working together to create a better metagame :)
