Resource SV Monotype Sample Teams [May 2025]

(Ground) Gravity Landorus + CB Excadrill Sand
:Landorus::Clodsire::Great-Tusk::Excadrill::Mamoswine::Hippowdon:
Very basic and simple to use sand team with one goal in mind, setup Stealth Rock and/or Gravity and let Excadrill eradicate teams. Clodsire sets up Toxic Spikes for pressure and is the dedicated Water-type immunity, spread is for Choice Scarf Greninja's Ice Beam and lets it take hits from Meowscarada and Ogerpons. Bulk Up Great Tusk is a nice late game cleaner once Excadrill and Mamoswine have softened up the foes and acts as utility support via Knock Off and Rapid Spin. Excadrill is basic, Rock Slide for Moltres, Volcarona, and some other Flying/Fire types while Poison Jab hits Ogerpons and other Grasses. Mamoswine is a nice answer to Flying and Grass types, deleting Landorus, Gliscor, Amoonguss, Sinistcha, etc. Good priority for Meowscarada as well as Ice neutrality. Hippowdon is also basic, spread is for Specs Latios and Eject Button is just great to pivot in Excadrill safely.

Hello there, Monotype players and fans!

Today I'm here with another team with that being:

Double A.V. Fighting Team:
:Gallade: :Sneasler: :Great Tusk: :Iron Hands: :Iron Valiant: :Zamazenta:
https://pokepast.es/7d1fae082aa3ad74

• It's no surprise that fighting lacks defensive backbone. Between offensive pivot Great Tusk(:Great Tusk:) and A.V. users such as Gallade(:Gallade:) and Iron Hands(:Iron Hands:), the fighting type REALLY struggles against strong types like Fairy and Fying. Therefore this team gives the Fighting type two very strong Sp. Def walls. For Gallade(:Gallade:) its Sharpness ability and Sp. Def bulk kets it leave strong special attacks such as Moonblastes from Fairy types (:Flutter Mane:, :Iron Valiant:, :Enamorus:) and many more while dishing out respectable damage with its STAB moves, Night Slash and priority move as Shadow Sneak to hit faster pokemon or at least deal Flutter Mane(:Flutter Mane:) great damage.

• The second specially defensive backbone of this fighting team is the famous Iron Hands(:Iron Hands:)! One thing I give credit to Iron Hands for is that it's much bulkier than Gallade(:Gallade:) in terms of HP (It has 154 HP) and Def. with 108, leaving it able to take physical attacks as well (if the attack isn't a STAB Earthquake). Sadly it has an underwhelming Sp. Def with 68, but Careful nature with A.V. makes up for it. Another plus for Iron Hands(:Iron hands:) is that it learns Drain Punch, a way to recover HP (unlike :Gallade:). It has also Volt Switch to act as a bulky pivot. If you don't feel to gamble you can always change Supercell Slam for Thunder Punchor Ice Punch for Volt Switch. However the thing about Iron Hands(:Iron Hands:) is that it's forced to have the Careful nature and have AV as an item, meaning that its attack won't be that groundbreaking. However it's a well worth prize to make.

• Lastly we have a quite peculiar EV spread for our Zamazenta(:Zamazenta:). I made it as specially bulky as possible while it can outspeed Flutter Mane(:Flutter Mane:)!

:Zamazenta: That's the team, folks! :Zamazenta:

Thanks for reading! Take care, everyone!
:Zamazenta:  :Zamazenta:  :Zamazenta:

Hello everyone! This is my first post here. In Gen 9 I tried many types but found Bug to be my most played and I'd like to provide a team that has been working for me. Without further ado, I present:

Balanced Bug
kleavor.gif
lokix.gif
yanmega.gif
forretress.gif
araquanid.gif
volcarona.gif

Pokepaste Here

Kleavor = Rocks Setter, Scarf Revenge Killer, Offensive Pivot, General Lead
Lokix = Immediate Physical Power, Revenge Killer (especially on mons faster than Kleavor), Knock Off Utility, Offensive Pivot
Yanmega = Special Setup Sweeper, Anti-Heal Utility
Forretress = Physical Wall, Spikes Setter, Hazard Control, Defensive Pivot, General Lead #2
Araquanid = Special Wall, Sticky Web Setter, Trapper, Surprise Coat Killer
Volcarona = LOL Broken, Special Setup Sweeper #2, Burn Utility

Forretress + Araquanid form your defensive core with Kleavor/Lokix/Forretress forming a VoltTurn core for pivoting. There are two special attackers each with coverage moves because I found Volcarona alone not being enough against some special walls. Yanmega's Throat Spray is activated with either Bug Buzz or Psychic Noise, and I'm a huge fan of Protect to gain information, waste weather turns, as well as guarantee +1 Speed at the very least.

Testing Proof:
(200 Battles starting at 1100, 55% Win-Rate)

Balance Normal

:Terapagos-Terastal::Zoroark-Hisui::Ditto::Blissey::Porygon-Z::Maushold-Four:

1721122886162.png

(The team actually has slightly better winrate, I played and lost a bit with other teams.)

I first thought normal would be a weak type, but its weirdness makes it unpredictable and quite reliable.

:Terapagos-Terastal: is our default lead and spinner. With its ability, it can tank any first hit (mandatory boots) and retaliate with heavy damage from Tera Starstorm.

:Zoroark-Hisui: is another good lead, especially against Normal, Ghost and Fighting teams. We want it to copy either Maushold to pass as an easy target and/or lure physically defensive mons or Steel/Rock types, Porygon/Terapagos to pass as slower and kill faster mons, or Blissey, to force Special attacker to switch out. Focus Blast is our main answer against Steel and Rock.

:Ditto: is the (other) trump card of the team. It punishes setups and evens many match-up, like Dragon, Ghost, Steel, Water Rain and more. It's a great answer to many threats.

:Blissey: acts as the sponge it is, bring it in front of any special attackers, click TWave, then SRock.

:Porygon-Z: is the second special attacker of the team, and brings with it extra coverage, with a powerful BoltBeam combination. Its medium speed makes it less useful against offense, but is enough to make it a stallbreaker with Nasty Plot.

Finally, :Maushold: is the revenge-killer and finisher. It's speed and 450 Power signature move lets it OHKO a lot of things and can sometimes win by itself after just one Tidy Up.

Dark's an awful (bottom 5) type after the gambit ban and should never be used seriously ever.

Having said that, it still needs a sample like all the other unusable types so here is one:

https://pokepast.es/b76eb901696daf42

Description:

Team feels terrible to use due to the type sucking, but oh well. Anyways use U-turn to get specs Hoopa and in and kill things, yay. Team's built in a way to screw over things that traditionally beat dark (sun with Roaring moon, body press mons with double Choice Specs + Sableye, U-turn with Rocky Helmet, Muk-alola + iron head roaring moon for fairy) as much as possible but without Gambit you just don't have the same power level as other types anymore and will probably lose a lot of games.

Team went 29-3 as I piloted to 1500 so it's probably as useable as any other dark team atm, losses due to a combo of bad RNG, matchup, multiqueuing, and my own stupidy (late night laddering yayyy).

Double Moth Sun Hyper Offense (Fire)
:Torkoal: :Ogerpon-Hearthflame: :iron moth: :Volcarona: :gouging Fire: :ceruledge:
https://pokepast.es/00f1ce7b5bd8ce8b

This team uses Sun as much as it can with counterplay to rain and not as much counterplay into sand. With multiple powerful physical breakers it can overwhelm Archaludon and Mandibuzz.
(P.S. Bug is an auto win. I will give the EXACT steps to win.

Step 1: Send out Torkoal. Opponent sends out Kleavor.

Step 2: Set Stealth Rock to break Forretress’s Sturdy and the occasional Galvantula’s Focus Sash. Take 50% from Kleavor’s Stone Axe.

Step 3: Hard switch to Volcarona. Kleavor OHKOs Volcarona and maybe gets burned.

Step 4: Switch in Gouging Fire. Eat the 25% chip from Stealth Rock and press Raging Fury. Congratulations, you’ve won. )

Torkoal: Sets the sun and serves as a check against Roaring Moon with Yawn.
Ogerpon-Hearthflame: Comes and demolishes Steel teams and breaks Archaludon for Gouging Fire.
Iron Moth: Is the speed control and main Walking Wake check. Discharge is there to snipe Pelipper.
Volcarona: Psychic is to break Toxapex, which can annoy the rest of the team. Rest is pretty straightforward.
Ceruledge: Sweeps Ghost and serves as a potent Sneasler check. Is also the teams only hope against Rock.

Triple Dance Bug HO (Bug)
:kleavor: :Araquanid: :Scizor: :Volcarona: :Ribombee: :Frosmoth:
https://pokepast.es/942b67fec33acf3d
Uses brute force and Webs to overwhelm teams and shared checks such as Goodra-H and Toxapex.

Kleavor: “Checks” Gouging Fire and is fundamental in breaking apart Flying teams and A-Muk. Can clean non-sun Fire teams.
Araquanid: Sets Webs for the setup sweepers to abuse. Skitter Smack and Lunge prevents it from being easily set up on. Can disrupt Flying with strong Liquidations too.
Scizor: Really strong tool in breaking Flying teams and preventing Iron Crown from 6-0ing this team.
Volcarona: Breaks Toxapex and checks Fighting with Will-O-Wisp. Is essential in beating Articuno.
Ribombee: Really strong vs. Fighting after Webs. Substitute eases setup against Amoonguss and prevents revenge-killing from Boulder.
Frosmoth: Is strong into Water and sweeps Dragon after Goodra-H is worn down enough.

Replays:
Ice: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9monotype-2172058128 Scizor be Scizor.

Dragon: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9monotype-2173458476 How the entire Dance team is needed to beat Goodra-H.

Fire: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9monotype-2172061785-5jpxry5hkfuvcqqcg0g7kr3aikj6xv8pw Kleavor is strong into non-Sun Fire.

Dear ladies and gentlemen:
As the Kingambit ban has caused the samples to be all removed, I would like to present you some neat fighting teams!

Bulky Offence feat. AV Gallade Team:
:Gallade: :Sneasler: :Great Tusk: :Keldeo-Resolute: :Iron Valiant: :Zamazenta:
https://pokepast.es/5dea02ac301cdfed
• I chose Gallade instead of Iron Hands, because while I. Hands has good bulk, its attack falls short using careful nature, not to mention its moves like Ice, Drain Punch and Supercell Slam are not THAT reliable. With Gallade not only does the fighting type have a good special wall (with AV) with a great attack with moves boosted with Sharpness, but also a chance to beat Espathra(While it's in the tier) and priority with Shadow Sneak. It can also take Moonblastes from fairy types or shadow Ball from Dengo and pay the back with either Sharpness (x1.5) boosted Psycho Cut or Night Slash. It helps the fightig type to take on Greninja, Poison matchups and even Psychic or Fairy matchups.

• Mixed Expert Bell Iron Valiant is here to deal with switched out pokemon. While Choice Specs deals great damage to pokemon, the player can just predict the move and switch out. With Expert Belt however, it won't be locked in a single move anymore and it can surprise the opponent with its moves and power. Examples are if a player switche Corv. to Gliscor predicting Thunderbold. On the next turn Iron V. hits Gliscor with Ice punch, dealing a LOT of damage. or if a Mono-Dragon team switches to Goodra-Hisui for the Moonblast, instead Iron V. kills it with Close Combat. I dinn't give it Life Orb because losing HP is a huge disadvantage form a frail pokemon and Expert Bell boosts the attaks enought. I also 252 EV'd its Sp. Att. to finish off Zamazenta.

P.S: I also wanted to note that Sneasler has Switcheroo instead of Toxic Spikes, because switching items with stall pokemon like Sableye, Toxapex or Pecharunt can criple them.

Double A.V. Fighting Team:
:Gallade: :Sneasler: :Great Tusk: :Iron Hands: :Iron Valiant: :Zamazenta:
https://pokepast.es/7d1fae082aa3ad74

I've got a few steel teams I've made since the Gambit ban
Generic Steel
https://pokepast.es/b4cc00ef94953654
:Heatran: :Gholdengo: :Skarmory: :Archaludon: :Iron Treads: :Scizor:
This is the same team as pre Kingambit ban but with Scizor instead as that is the next best user of priority on the type.
Phasing Steel
https://pokepast.es/d35092a9f4403e91
:Heatran: :Gholdengo: :Skarmory: :Archaludon: :Iron Treads: :Goodra-Hisui:
This version replaces Kingambit with Hisuian Goodra to allow for a greater special bulk on the team as well as stack hazard damage with dragon tail.
Birdless Steel
https://pokepast.es/e358be0b60513a49
:Heatran: :Gholdengo: :Iron Crown: :Archaludon: :Iron Treads: :Scizor:
Without Kingabit in the tier the metal birds are less valuable than ever, and so can be cut from the team to allow for a more offensive build. This build also has a lot of pivot moves in order to reposition easily.
Special Steel
https://pokepast.es/59cd73b20f014ccb
:Heatran: :Gholdengo: :Skarmory: :Archaludon: :Iron Treads: :Iron Crown:
Again this is the basic team structure, but with Iron Crown for a greater focus on breaking through on the special side.

:sandslash-alola: Slush Rush abuser for fast utility in Rapid Spin and Knock Off for hazard and item removal, respectively. Iron Head for stab and coverage against Fairy and Rock types, Earthquake to cover some of Ice’s weaknesses.

:Weavile: Triple Axel for a 120bp STAB ice move. Wide Lens for 97% acc. Knock Off for item removal, Shard for priority. Could use HDB but it’s a preference thing. Also, always use Pressure on Weavile.

:Ninetales-alola: Aurora Veil to make the team bulkier and pairs will with Snow Warning. Freeze Dry to hit Water types hard, Moonblast for Fighting and Dark types, Encore to catch someone lacking for doing the same thing over and over so you can use it to your advantage (or downfall). Max HP so you can get more turns out of Ninetales and Icy Rock to maximize Slush Rush uptime for Sandslash and the bulk for the team overall.

:mamoswine: Your hazard setter and it helps absorb a few Fire moves for Ice. Earthquake for STAB against Fire, Rock, Poison, and Steel types. Smack Down to bring down those metal birds. The EVs allows you to make Body Press from Corviknight a 3HKO outside of Snow and a 3HKO from Skarmory’s Body Press while under Snow. Also avoids being OHKO’d by Ogerpon-Hearthflame to EQ and Ice Shard Hearthflame.

:cloyster: White Herb is better than Focus Sash because of what Snow does for Ice types. A massive 180 base Def to be further boosted by Snow allows it to setup Shell Smash against a large portion of the physical attack cast of mon in the tier. Icicle Spear for STAB and Rock Blast to cover Flying and Bug types. Ice Shard to avoid being revenge killed and to tag faster Choice Scarf mons like Latios, Dragapult, and Roaring Moon.

:kyurem: I was debating whether to put HDB or Specs on Kyurem, but I think Specs might edge out as better for this team. Hard hitting already as a special attacker, Choice Specs allows you to muscle past balanced teams and remove some of Ice’s threats to make room for Cloyster and Weavile to close games.

Hey long time no see ! I've used those 3 teams, my fairy in the sample and some variants that allowed me get back to top 10 ladder. I am gonna share a BO water, a HO dark (not the most common or maybe efficient compared to xstatic's one), and an HO/BO ice

:keldeo: :toxapex: :swampert: :greninja: :samurott_hisui: :primarina:
https://pokepast.es/98c6c24cd047ec7e
This is a variant of my original team with ogerpon-w instead of samurott but the dragon type was too much a mess to keep Maskey. Basically a slower version but with one more priority. You should have an answer for every threat of the metagame.

:darkrai: :hoopa-unbound: :weavile: :hydreigon: :samurott-hisui: :meowscarada:
https://pokepast.es/5bc41831c82d249e
This team is better to destroy dragon, flying, water and have a good chance against fairy
Darkrai as the best rk for dark
av hoopa wallbreaker to not be destroyed by keldeo at +1. Koff 0HKO dragapult and FM after 1 hazard
hydreigon to destroy fat birds
hamurott is the key to put pressure and surprise with its priority

:ninetales-alola: :kyurem: :piloswine: :weavile: :sandslash-alola: :avalugg:

bonus : the fighting team with god gallade
:gallade: :great tusk: :keldeo: :zamazenta: :sneasler: :iron valiant:

edit : i've changed hoopa-u 's spread to be able to not be 2hko by +1 secret sword keldeo

edit 2 : dropping new teams

FLYING

:gliscor: :corviknight: :enamorus: :moltres-galar: :skarmory: :gyarados:
https://pokepast.es/3b65c3b70a85bbd8
It's a defensive team relying on ena scarf and goltres setup so the team needs to weaken the opponent with hazards and different kind of answers until Goltres can come and double dance to end the game.

WATER
:dondozo: :swampert: :alomomola: :tentacruel: :samurott-hisui: :greninja:
https://pokepast.es/79fe9a02ebb671ee
Swampert is the best water ground but lacks of a recovering move like Tentacruel so Alomomola is here to help them both. Tenta is the best Ogerpons answer and with rapid spin allows to not struggle with the sticky web for Greninja. This team is supposed to answer most threats except raging bolt and kyurem freeze dry if you reveal the trick too soon.

Ground
:quagsire: :clodsire: :landorus: :mamoswine: :great tusk: :sandy shocks:
My old Sandless team with few tweaks to adding nasty plot on landorus for better wall breaking. I also still enjoy Quagsire being able to help against BD Azumarill which can be a pain in the ass for Ground.
Steel
:gholdengo: :heatran: :archaludon: :iron treads: :skarmory: :Goodra-Hisui:
Standard steel with Specs Gholdengo and AV Hoodra. I believe the main problem with steel right now is the lack of Special Defensive Backbone to rely on. AV hoodra fits nicely imo, being able to handle Hydreigon and Friends, while also providing steel a little breathing room against primarina. Scarf Archaludon to revenge kill Iron Valiant while also utilizing T wave to hinder Keldeo; This allows for Specs Gholdengo having a easier time to deal with it.

Hey ! Here some builds I did this last week, they all work and I think they are easy to take in hand:

https://pokepast.es/147e03114e66ca43 - Flying triple choice
I saw mushamu said in the vr thread jugulis should be B rank. Imo it's not a dumb idea, this pokemon is really underrated. As a balance so idea is take the damages with ur defensive core (Gliscor + skarm + corvi) until the moment u have a safe switch on jugulis or dnite to break/weaken the team. Some option can be play, like spikes over idef on skarm or koff over gliscor. But for me the team is based on the idea u really really don't want sr on ur side. Also, idef can be used as wincond against type like ground always tough to manage with flying.

https://pokepast.es/f83ee7260aafbc28 - Flying stall
If u like being not fun and cancer, u can play this team. It's really mu based, becausee in monotype u have many way to break stall easely. But the idea is to manage a majority of mu

https://pokepast.es/ee714882c773e9d2 - Drag BO triple special breaker
Honnestly the base of the team, was making a team where I could be sure I have the advantage against the miror. Gladly it also means the team is pretty good against all the meta (I did 26-2 for the last suspect with it). Base are double steel + gouging, dtail can miss and having dm on all my mon was a good thing so here it's archa the phazer. Draga is my scarf, tios the breaker and hydrei the stallbreaker. Be carefull, the team struggle against ground and ovarall ground type are quickly annoying

https://pokepast.es/9b231ee729e59449 - HO Ghost

Feel like, ghost is pretty good in this meta, but hard to don't play HO to have result. Bramble compress at the same time the role of the spinner and the suicid lead. Like that u can avoid hazard for ur early, with hdb on flutter and spectrier u are also safe for sweep at the end. Kasib berry on gholdengo is for managing flutter easely. Draga is scarf for making easier the mu drag, and ovarall revenge all the set up. Like u don't have mimikyu it's important. Ceru is suppose to be the breaker, but ngl at long as u don't have sr on ur side u can use it as a wincond (depend of the mu)

Will prob add more teams later

Balanced Offense Mono Dragon

Mons Breakdown
Archaludon: A good lead and it can break do a lot of damage if used properly with the roar and stealth rock combo while also getting some damage using body press when your defense is up. Leftovers can keep recovering so arch can stay alive more and keep dealing damage.

Dragapult: A screens setter. Using pult's insane speed, you could switch it in, setup screens, and sac. Then setting up can win you the game. You could always opt for using twave + hex to deal some damage. If you like you could replace twave with will o wisp.

Kyurem: Not much to understand here, you can hit a lot of mons with kyurem's moves + that good spa + its decent speed.

Roaring Moon: A mon that can catch people off guard. With its scarf, it can get some quick KOes and can potentially be a fun late game cleaner.

Dragonite: One of the sweepers that pult supports, eq is there for dirge.

Gouging Fire: Another sweeper that pult supports and this one is stronger than the other as it has immunity to burn. It can easily counter dirge with consistent earthquakes.

Houndstone Ghost Offense - https://pokepast.es/74188a2850f539fe
GOAT.png

Brief Explanation of each member:

Houndgoat - This mon is a tank, it will singlehandedly wall most of the psychical metagame. Urshifu, easy to wall. Roaring Moon, easy to wall as long as it isn't at +3. Body press is essential to beat Heatran switches and bop dark types like Alolan-Muk. Roar is also a vital component as this stops big threats from setting up and sweeping.

Ceruledge - This set is unique, it also requires a unique taste in how it is used. This set pairs will Gholdengo's trick. The primary goal is to bait a super effective psychical attack and go nuts. Endure allows this to be possible, it also allows you to bypass the unreliability of a Focus sash against hazards. Poltergeist is nice, however, not needed.

Fluttermane - Generic set, just here to deal damage.

Mimikyu - An essential mon for Mono Ghost, this thing beats dark teams most of the time. Just make sure you trick the Bisharp.

Gholdengo - Standard scarf set with Plot over Focus Blast. Plot gives a better matchup against rock and fire. Water too if it is bulky water.

Brambleghast - Bulky Smogon set, just sets up spikes and spins.

Right now we don't have a rain sample so I'm here to fix that, hopefully.
:Pelipper: :Primarina: :Toxapex: :Barraskewda: :Kingdra: :Ogerpon-Wellspring:
https://pokepast.es/ae136092118cff3d
Basic rain archetype. Hit 1605 Elo on ladder
Pelipper sets up rain, AV Primarina and Eject Button Toxapex are bulky pivots into rain abusers, Barraskewda and Kingdra click buttons under rain and win and Ogerpon also does rain buttons.
Ice Beam on Kingdra is ran to be a reliable click into Grass even if rain isn't up since we live hits from Sinistcha and Meowscarada and reliably remove them in response. Also breaks Brambleghast which I did run into during testing and was an issue.
Wellspring was chosen for a last with Substitute to help in the Mirror being able to setup Sub on threats such as Swampert, Toxapexes lacking Poison STAB (I ran into a fair few of these), and Empoleon along with other threats such as Galarian Weezing, Gliscor, and Heatran.
