Araquanid can take any two hits from Iron Moth and OHKO regardless of tera. If the first hit isn't Fiery Dance (or if Iron Moth doesn't get the boost from Fiery Dance), Araquanid can survive three hits, giving it a turn to set up Sticky Web.

Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Water
Adamant Nature
- Wave Crash
- Flip Turn
- Aqua Jet
- Psychic Fangs / Head Smash

Basculegion is a check. While it doesn't outspeed a boosted Iron Moth even in Rain, Basculegion resists both of its STAB moves, and avoids the 2HKO from most coverage moves Iron Moth can realistically run aside from Energy Ball or Discharge unless it has a Fiery Dance boost or two under its belt. Once in, Basculegion can threaten an OHKO with almost anything, with Substitute really only delaying the inevitable in most scenarios.

Tera Water guarantees that Aqua Jet will OHKO both in and out of Rain, but you do lose your Poison resistance, so be careful.

Rotom-W is a check to iron moth. With special defense investment, rotom-w can take two sludge waves and respond with two powerful hydro pump. It can also switch in on a fiery dance and easily survive the follow up sludge wave if it gets the +1 boost. From here, rotom-w can pain split off the damage thus making sure it will always ko with hydro pump. Tera poison is in case you get to low hp and can't take another sludge wave.

Latias is a counter, as with its naturally high Special bulk it can easily set up in Iron Moth's face, only risking the unlikely Sludge Wave poison it can tera to avoid or the Iron Moth boosting Fiery Dance multiple times AND a crit... which, to be fair, isnt too unfeasible. It can usually even handle Iron Moth upon switching into Fiery Dance, giving it +1 into Sludge Wave as it Calm Minds.
+1 132 SpA Iron Moth Sludge Wave vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Latias: 180-213 (49.4 - 58.5%) -- 66.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Darkrai is a check as it cannot safely handle multiple of Iron Moth's moves but can reliably threaten it with a surprise Tera Psychic Psyshock. Don't actually run this, just food for thought. In a one on one Darkrai doesn't need to exhaust Tera, but if switching in then yes.

Step one come in on Iron Moth, step two yep. Jokes aside, Iron Moth is not breaking past special defense Gliscore; Sludge Wave does nothing, and you are immune to Tera Blast Ground; you easily break sub and even more so with a Swords Dance. Fiery Dance you comfortably take unless you get the boost, in which afterward, the sub is most likely removed by then, and Iron Moth still won’t delete Gliscor.

Congratulations, your sets will be added to the Hall of Fame! Our next week's threat may or may not be the cousin of one of last week's winners - with a recent climb in the VR rankings to S-, what stands in the way of Galarian Slowking?

Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psyshock
- Sludge Bomb
- Flamethrower
- Surf

Slowking-Galar is one of the most potent defensive checks in OU, wielding an Assault Vest to enhance its already significant special bulk and allow it to invest in its Special Attack. This Pokemon can fire off powerful Psyshocks and Sludge Bombs to hit special and physical checks alike, with Flamethrower providing coverage to threaten Steel-types with super effective damage, while Surf is a strong option that targets certain Fire- and Ground-types that would otherwise be able to switch in on it with impunity. This combines well with a Tera type of Water, a great neutral defensive typing that gives it an even better matchup into weather teams that already find it hard for their special attackers to muscle through it. Can anything step up to the king?

I know it's obscure, but hear me out. Poltergeist does loads of damage, and if you are at -1 or something, Shadow Sneak is a good way to snipe a kill. But when Glowking decides to Tera, you aren't doing nearly enough damage. Thanks to Passho, you are guaranteed to get Sunny Day up, also weakening Surf. Then, you can press Tera Grass Solar Blade into a Tera Water Glowking, and it is in for a he'll of a ride. With 3 spikes, you don't even have to Tera! Be careful switching in, because Surf will deal loads.

Switch in and use Salt Cure the following turn, then Recover as necessary until Slowking is weak enough to finish with an Earthquake. You have the speed advantage, and a pre-tera Surf followed by a post-tera Surf does not KO, so you only need to tera if Slowking teras first. Also, Purifying Salt means you don't have to worry about poison or burn.

I know it's obscure, but hear me out. Poltergeist does loads of damage, and if you are at -1 or something, Shadow Sneak is a good way to snipe a kill. But when Glowking decides to Tera, you aren't doing nearly enough damage. Thanks to Focus Sash, you are guaranteed to get Sunny Day up, also weakening Surf.
While I don't want every check or counter to be airtight and able to beat a mon with max hazards up, this came up last week and we will unfortunately not be accepting Sash / Sturdy solutions; with Sash, any Endeavor + priority mon checks nearly anything, while any faster, frail check to a mon is theoretically a counter with Focus Sash.
So yeah. Maybe try something different than Focus Sash, like a Passho Berry?

Hoopa-U is a check to Glowking. Hoopa-U can slam Glowking for a potential OHKO with knock off, forcing the glowking to tera water in order to survive the hit. However, Hoopa-U still does 50% to it while its doing a pitiful 23% max. Glowking then is at risk of a two shot from t-bolt due to its AV being removed. Tera Poison is also good for resisting sludge bomb, though you do become really weak to f-sight. This is a check because with proper predictions and hazards, Hoopa-U can be overwhelmed.

Slowking is a counter to Glowking. "If you can't beat them, Join them". Yes, slowking johto is a great counter to glowking. With good special bulk and a typing that resists 3 out of the 4 moves AV Glowking uses with the fourth in sludge bomb doing 26% max. From here, Slowking can do a few things. It can cripple glowking with a t-wave, fish for a burn and decent damage with scald, set off a future sight to do good damage or swap out with chilly reception in order to get regen health back. Tera steel is to avoid sludge bomb in case you are wary of a poison, while flamethrower does max 36%, so not too much.

Samurott-Hisui is a check. While it lacks recovery, its typing and the added bulk from Assault Vest allows Samurott to switch in and tank any of Slowking's attacks from full. In return, Samurott can remove Slowking's item and threaten an OHKO with Knock Off, or threaten an OHKO and set Spikes with Ceaseless Edge. If hazards are already up in either case, then it's a guaranteed OHKO. However, if Slowking Terastalizes, these OHKOs turn into 2HKOs.
