SV Singles Pokemon Team

Hello,

I came here for help in creating teams during Sun and Moon and everyone was really helpful. I got Violet and I'm hoping to do the same now. I have 4 that I really like and 2 that I am iffy about. Here they are, please be gentle :).

My goal was to create 2 cores that synergized with each other and created confusion as to which pokemon I might start off with. I also wanted to use "anti-meta" pokemon to defeat common threats like Annihilape. Essentially creating unpredictability in my team and using less common Pokemon that are just as effective. With that in mind, here is what I thought of:

Core
Espeon - Choice Specs - Tera Fairy
Timid - Magic Bounce
Hp 62 : Sp.A 252 : Sp 196
Psychic
Psyshock
Dazzling Gleam
Power Gem

Using it as a mixed sweeper with psyshock/psychic. Power Gem to deal with Bug threats and Fairy to change the dark weakness and increase the power of Dazzling Gleam. I am so sorry, I don't remember why I specifically chose 196 EV into speed. I specifically wanted to outspeed a particular pokemon that threatens Espeon but I can't remember who right now. I've also seen Dark as an option to tera into. Magic Bounce is chosen to prevent entry hazard setup. Ceruledge helps it against ghost and bug types as well.

Ceruledge - Life Orb - Tera Ghost
Jolly - Flash Fire
4HP : Att 252 : Sp 252
Bitter Blade
Shadow Claw
Close Combat
Sword Dance

Ceruledge is my wall breaker. It should also be able to 0KO Annihilape with Shadow Claw after 1 sword dance or if I tera. I can also survive rage punch pre-stacked or pre bulk and I do outspeed Annihilape. Flash Fire also covers for Corviknight's fire weakness.

Pawmot - Punching Glove - Tera Fight
Jolly - Iron Fist
Att 252 : 4 Def : Sp 252
Mach Punch
Thunder Punch
Ice Punch
Revival Blessing

I chose Pawmot for Revival Blessing. So essential it would come later in the battle to get a quick kill with mach punch and then use revival blessing. It's a bit of a "support sweeper" role, or at least that was the idea. It is also a great swap to protect Corviknight from electric threats. Ice punch helps against ground threats. I am open to a volt absorb set as well to better support the team defensively.

Corviknight - Rocky Helmet - Tera Dragon
Impish - Mirror Armor
HP 252 : Att 20 : Def 42 : Sp.D 148: Spe 36
Brave Bird
Iron Head
Roost
Bulk Up

This is my bulky attacker. It can swap in to Pawmot's ground threats and should be able to also break through walls with bulk up. The EV spread I took from a youtube video (
).

I think these 4 have great synergy and protect from each others weaknesses well.

Supportive
Toedscruel - Heavy Duty Boots - Tera Water
Timid - Mycelium Might
Hp 102 : Sp.A 252 : Sp 156
Energy Ball
Earth Power
Toxic
Rapid Spin

Again, I don't remember what I was trying to outspeed unfortunately, but it was by 1 speed point if that helps (sorry again). Mostly used as a switch in to electrics to protect Corviknight. Rapid spin to remove entry hazards. Toxic as a good way to whittle away at enemies and good offensive ground and grass moves. Like Pawmot, it's a bit of a "supportive sweeper."

Slowking - Light Clay - Tera Fairy
Calm - Regenerator
HP 196 : Def 252 : Sp.D 62
Surf
Reflect
Light Screen
Yawn

Slowking is my bulky defense and should be able to set up screens or neutralize threats with yawn for an easy switch in, which also helps him with Regenerator. I don't think I'll be terastelizing him, but if I do, I have fairy type to remove his psychic weaknesses mostly. Surf is just a nice offensive move.

I'm a bit iffy about Slowking, Toedscruel and to a lesser extent, Espeon.

Looking forward to some interesting responses and unique strategies to make it competitive.

I think Toedscruel doesn't need HDB, it resists SR. Plus there's the Espeon, it may not even be that easy for them to set SR. Giga Drain over Energy Ball might be good, unless you ohko/2hko something specific w/ the 15 more BP.

I don't normally rate teams (been super busy with Pokemon analysis stuff), but I can give some help! I'm assuming this is for the ingame ladder, Battle Stadium Singles, since I saw that VGC video and this is in other teams.

Also apologies this isn't a complete rate, I'm a bit strapped for time. But here's some stuff to help you out regardless!

Pawmot

- For Pawmot, I would seriously consider Tera Electric and Double Shock. Since Tera Types stay no matter what, when you Terastallize into Electric, you can use it over and over against with 0 consequences! It makes Pawmot quite powerful when it needs to be, especially if you use Life Orb.

- I'd consider replacing Ice Punch with Close Combat too. Don't get me wrong, Ice Punch comes in handy against un tera'd Garchomps, but Close Combat is needed to get the kill on Kingambit, and is just a good secondary STAB in general.

- I'd get rid of Punching Gloves. Its effect only works with Mach Punch, and the boost is pretty weak. Life Orb is a good choice, though I realize you have that on Ceruledge already (more on that in a bit!). Focus Sash and Magnet are decent alternatives too.

Ceruledge

- I think Shadow Sneak is really important on this thing, you really want to hit faster ghosts like Dragapult, Mimikyu, and Gengar before they hit you. Now granted, all 3 of these are very likely to tera, but still, they all give Ceruledge big issues.

- If you stick with SD, I personally tend to prefer Focus Sash + Weak Armor, because the Speed boost can let it outspeed some pretty important stuff after a physical hit.

- If you want Flash Fire (since you mention using it to cover Corviknight, I'd consider the Bulk Up set from the dex. The bulk in this set makes it a lot easier to soak up hits for Corviknight. Just note though, a lot of common stuff using Fire-type attacks are Dragons like Hydreigon and Dragapult, who Ceruledge will have trouble with if it doesn't Terastallize itself!

- I feel like Dragon-types or Rotom-H are more reliable ways to switch into Fire-type attacks, if you're ok with replacing Ceruledge. If you keep Espeon (more on that later as well), Hydreigon might not be a bad pick here.

Corviknight

- I'd swap over to a physically defensive spread. That video you linked to is for VGC, which is a doubles format and very different than this format! You can just use 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe with Impish, but feel free to invest a bit more in Speed if you want, because a lot of Skeledirge and Kingambit try to outspeed Corviknight.

- I'd consider Taunt over either Brave Bird or Iron Head. Now which attack you use is most likely going to depend on the rest of your team, but Taunt really helps with your Dondozo match up. Right now, with your Corviknight set, Dondozo can come in and spam Yawn, which will give the rest of your team some serious issues with it. With Taunt, most Dondozo won't be able to do very well against Corviknight!

Espeon

- I'll admit I'm fairly skeptical of this thing, though I'll admit I just... haven't seen it much either. I'd go max Speed, might as well outspeed the base 105s (aka Pawmot).

- While I'd consider replacing this, if you are intent on keeping Espeon... maybe consider Dual Screens? A Dual Screener that blocks Garchomp's hazards might have some value.

- If you must use Specs Espeon, I'd consider slotting in Trick somewhere. Maybe over either Psychic or Power Gem. Trick is just really useful for crippling defensives foes for teammates.

Some other stuff to consider

- I wouldn't bother with Rapid Spin in this format. In 3v3 (which I assume this is for considering where this was posted!), Rapid Spin tends to waste a lot of time unless its on something very offensive.

-Again, assuming this is for the ingame ladder, you might want to give the strategy dex a look over. We don't have EVERYTHING covered, but we got a good amount of mons that can help you get started!

Thank you both, especially you Theorymon for your fantastic points and suggestions.

It was for 3v3 or 6v6, sorry if I posted in the wrong place for a 6v6 opinion. I just wanted to ask for singles team advice and not doubles. I think I'll keep Pawmot, Ceruledge and Corviknight.

Just a question about Espeon. Based on it's high speed and Sp.At I would assume it would be a good special sweeper, but like you, I am sceptical. Do you mind explaining why Espeon isn't a good choice? I

Well, if I had to guess it'd be cause of the ability. A bulky Espeon can take EQs from hippo much better, which is important since that's one Mon that you want to magic bounce.
