Switch In
OU Attack Absorb Team

Building the team

38.png

First off I wanted to use a Ninetales, which starts off the trend of the team.
It's ability Flash Fire, and access to Hypnosis, makes it the base for the team.

Next I thought, I need someone to abosorb the water weeakness.
Vaporeon came straight to mind, with the ability to support the team with wish.

Next I needed a Switch In to cover Vaporeon's Electric weakness.
Lanturn was the end result, it is the cleric, absorbs Electric attacks, and spreds Thunder Wave through teams.

Now there is a large Ground weakness to the team.
Gliscor was the solution, it can Taunt, heal, and takes both Electric and Ground attacks.

Now that the defences are covered I needed a Sp.Sweeper, to back the team up.
Heatran came up, and can Absorb Fire attacks, plus bait water attacks for Vaporeon.

Finally a nice bulky Physical Sweeper to cap off the team.
Gyrados slots in here, and is fantastis Electric Bait

I have now switched Heatran for Starmie, this may give me a larger electic
weakness, but it changes the dynamic, and allows me to Spin the entry hazards.

Now onto the sets

38.png

Ninetales (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 6 Def/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Energy Ball
- Hypnosis
- Flamethrower
- Will-o-wisp

I paticularly like this lead set, Choice Scarf gives it a speed of 492,
combined with access to Hypnosis and Will-o-wisp it counters many of
the standard leads.

---
134.png

Vaporeon (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 200 HP/58 SAtk/252 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Wish
- Surf
- Toxic

Wish for support, Surf for STAB, Hidden Power [Ground] for Empoleon
and other steels, specifically Magnezone.

---
171.png

Lanturn (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 200 HP/200 Def/50 SAtk/60 SDef
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Attract
- Thunder Wave
- Ice Beam
- Heal Bell

This Lanturn is rather annoying, switches in on Thunderbolt, Hidden
Power [Electric], ect, Attracts to force switches, Thunder Wave the switch in.
Heal Bell allows it to cleric rather well.

---
472.png

Gliscor (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 200 HP/110 Atk/200 Def
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Taunt
- Roost
- Ice Fang
- Earthquake

Gliscor, this is here to prevent set ups, and take the physical hits.
Earthquake for STAB, Ice Fang for other grounds, Roost for healing.

---
121.png

Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 6 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Rapid Spin
- Psychic

I brought this in as entry hazards ripped the team apart.
I chose psychic over surf for the Sp.Def drop and to prevent
Lanturn walling.
---
130.png

Gyarados (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 100 HP/100 Atk/100 Def/210 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Return
- Waterfall

Standard Dragon Dance Gyrados, Return + Waterfall + Earthquake
equals absolute coverage, baring Magnet Rise Passed Empoleon.

Ex-team members
485.png

Heatran (M) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 6 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Dragon Pulse
- Flamethrower
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Nice coverage, Flamethrower for STAB, Hidden Power [Ice] for Grounds,
Earth Power for coverage, and Dragon Pulse for Latias, ect.

Hey this is an interesting team idea.

You're obviously gonna be doing a lot of switching with this team, so it will be a good idea to get field hazards off.
Ninetails looks to be a rather ineffective revenge killer due to it taking 25% from rocks with every switchin.
I suggest using Anti-lead Starmie to keep rocks off the field, and replacing Lanturn with a faster, stronger choice specs Jolteon.

I hope I helped!

Heatran is not a reliable gengar counte to let you know life orb focus blast wrecks it. Also he defintely don't counter flygon as he outspeeds tran even without a scarf lol

I like the spinner idea, but i'd like to keep Ninetales.

It can land a Hypnosis before almost all common leads. Giving me a safe switch-in for gyrados to start setting up.

I'm going to try switching Heatran for Starmie, and see how it goes.

Also changed Surf to Thunderbolt, This has stopped Vaporeon walling it.

@GrimHawke If I changed Lanturn to Joteon I would lose my team's cleric, causing me to suffer to status afflictions.

Your Ninetales feels like an inferior Heatran. They both absorb fire attacks and have the same weaknesses. Because your team likes to "absorb" moves, I recommend replacing Ninetales with a RestTalk Spiritomb that can absorb status, fighting and normal moves. RestTalk Spiritomb is not the best lead so try leading with Gliscor but replace Ice Fang with Stealth Rock which is much more vital to the team.

Also on Gyarados, Return may give more coverage but overall you do less damage to flying types. Replace it with Stone Edge is what I would do.

Overall good work on using some uncommon Pokemon in OU, it is creative and more enjoyable to read than standard teams.

Just trialed Starmie in place of heatran, the team works a whole lot better now.

Ninetales now can 'safely' switch in, and i have discovered that with scarf She out speeds ninjask, without speed boosts. Landing a flamethrower or hypnosis.

Any more comments?

Lead ninjask runs protect in order to get a free speed boost, but ninjask teams should generally not be a threat anyway

The lanturn you have is basically a 100% magnezone counter, so I would especially recommend changing vaporeon to hp electric. This still beats empoleon and can also catch gyarados

on the note of lanturn, take off attract in favor of some other move, possibly thunderbolt or surf. Magnezone, zapdos, and starmie are primary users of electric moves and are all genderless

You like your ninetales so I will leave it alone

at least TEST surf/hydro pump on starmie because it allows starmie to kill weakened tyranitar and heatran. If you like psychic better that's fine but I think it's worth at least testing

otherwise, solid team! I would hope to face this on the ladder eventually

Thanks for the comments.

I tried Starmie with Surf, but the use of surf ment that I often gave Water Absorb healing.
Also Psychic allows me to damage Gengar severally, and out speed after Thunder Wave.

Next I test using Thunderbolt with surf, but the lack of attract reduced it's ability to stall, which has often won the match.

An Extra comment, I've found that Hidden Power Grass and Energy Ball are a problem, however i was thinking of including a Celebi with hidden power fire. Any ideas?

Your descriptions are very subpar. I will unlock this if you improve them and PM the updated ones to me.
