Hi hi! Slightly delayed but the SwSh PU VR update is now complete. Thanks to the 8 voters who made this happen! For methodology I first removed the highest and lowest vote for each Pokemon to remove outliers. I then assigned a numeric value to each rank with S being 1 point, A+ being 2, A being 3, all the way up to UR being 11. I then added the value of the 6 remaining votes and then divided by 6 and rounded to the nearest whole number to get the final rank. The process can be seen on this sheet.

This method allows for Pokemon to be ordered within their subrank. The main issue with it is that it implies the difference between an A- and B+ Pokemon is the same as the difference between a B+ and a B Pokemon which generally isn't the case. For the purpose of this vr though it worked well enough.

We also separated C into C+, C and C- since the metagame is now settled and can reasonably have its C ranks sorted. Finally, I somehow left Cincinno out when doing this so I'll leave it at the top of B-, where it previously was.

tbh...let's just ban Gigalith. (only somewhat of a shitpost)
:gigalith::gigalith::gigalith:
People have been calling this meta stale for so long, which I gotta agree with, and ultimately Gigalith is at the center of it all. While it's by no means some broken unbeatable wall, the metagame revolves around it so much, to the point where it largely limits what else people can actually use, leading to all this repetitiveness.

Obviously, there's the Gigalith+Sandslash core, which can either include hazard control that's too good to give up or an offensive SD Sandslash that has multiple chances to set up and sweep. At the end of SWSH Sandslash was brought up as a potential ban, but was dismissed pretty quickly. Still I think most of us are pretty sick of the core. A major reason people don't think too much about this core as broken anymore is bcuz we "adapted", aka further limited the team options by having a Tangela/Eldegoss/Weezing on every team. There's half your team.

Most teams end up being just the same high-ranked mons, and the mid-tier mons are just there for show. I mean, yeah Sandaconda/Aggron/Regirock are all usable, but often it feels like you're just going outta your way to make your team worse by not just using Gigalith(and/or Sandslash). Without Gigalith, it would widen the variety of genuine SR options, not only including the ones I just listed but more exploration into lower-ranked stuff like Runerigus and Rhydon. And even for the mid mons who's lack of usage isn't directly cuz of Gigalith, ideally the impact of it leaving/less restricted teammbuilding would make them more usable.

Also gonna toss in that Gigalith feels like p much the entire reason two of our previous S-ranks, Ribombee and Charizard, fell. Maybe the tier would go into chaos without Gigalith, and Ribombee is super broken without it, but I'd still rather ban more mons than keep Gigalith just to keep them in line. Also it would still be more fun than the current meta.

Also one last thing, I wanna point out that Gigalith would've theoretically risen to NU during the second-to-last shift if not for the rise in drop cutoff % and they were still doing rises. While ik that has little to do with PU, imo it furthers the idea that the mon doesn't belong in PU.
| 50 | Gigalith | 3.469% |
(Drudiggon, Steelvally, and Piloswine would have also rose but they're not important rn)

tldr; while not broken, Gigalith is keeping the meta stale enough to say it's an unhealthy presence

posted this in discord a while back but got lost in adv talk so i'd thought i'd repost it here

some thoughts:
-arch is busted rn, not banworthy but mbeam sets are extremmely effective due to wearing down giga/aud/wishi like no one's business, very hard to check once you realize it overlaps with thievul's checks
-elecs are also broken, all of our volt immunes can't take common coverage from them (e.g toge folds to mud shot vika, slash and sanda fold to eballs) and they generate momentum super well for our balance breakers like gallade and centi
-top heavy meta at higher levels of plays, hard to experiment around with anything lower than b (and arguably anything lower than b+ as well), as someone who played it a lot when it was cg i'm not a huge fan of this development but i guess that's the fate of an old gen that gets like ~100 games a year as opposed to 10,000 a month

grassy terrain's probably the biggest elephant in the room and honestly still not sure what to think about it. i've talked about this with gum and danny before but i do feel like part of it is people being lazy and reusing teams, so the moment we see some innovation it looks extremely strong...but at the same time it's been heavily effective in all of pupl/ss cup/sspl, so it's clearly not a fluke. we do have the options to deal with it (e.g more people need to use dark resists that aren't just bee) but i'm not sure if that's enough. also very easy to pilot and build and win with and it just generally feels like it has a lot of options at its disposal. hope to see more people discuss it!

why is arctozolt in the tier list

Firstly, thank you Hera for reviving this thread!!

I had a decent run in the recent SSPL (5-2) which I'm quite proud of since this is my favorite tier OAT. I came back to prepping/watching the tier in this recent PUPL+SSPL after a year break so some mons I don't have an amazing grasp on just yet so they may be lower/higher than what people may agree with.

Everything up to about Perrserker is tiered in order, the rest I got lazy. I don't think I missed anything important so here's my yap of the century (I don't like + and - tiers but it was kinda necessary here):

S - Nothing to say, this guy is the best and holds the tier together and is the reason one of the top 2 archetypes exist
A - Sandslash is the main abuser of said archetype that Giga supports. Ribombee provides an insane amount of utility while also being the reason things like Gigalith and Steel types are absolutely necessary. I mean they've been necessary ever since Fairy was introduced but still. Elde and Wishi provide their own forms of very very good utility in bulky removal that can stay healthy and pivoting respectively, while Doublade is imo the best Steel in the tier and I don't think anyone really disagrees.
A- - Audino is one of the few Zard / Special attacker checks that aren't Gigalith and Coal and also just again provides a lot of utility with Knock/Encore/Heal Bell + Regenerator is broken. Centiskorch is so insanely hard to deal with defensively imo the only true wall or switchs are Coal/Zard which are switching into Knock most of the time which is pretty unideal. Don't need to say much about Zard, good offensive movepool with Defog and punishes the default switchins with Toxic. Magneton I think is pretty slept on thing hits like a truck and forces you to click correctly. Archeops I'm usually underwhelmed by, seems like an HO merchant, Ferro and Weezing are very good defensively and have great util.
B+ - Thievul only fits on one archetype, granted that archetype is really good. Gum has really put me onto Vikavolt this past PUPL, just pivots on switchins and generates infinite momentum while also getting to stay healthy with Roost which puts it above Galv/Jolt/Toge. Guno became strong asf with Scrafty being gone, just free Future Sight pivot and can kinda own Giga with Psyshock. I'm super high on Qwilfish I think it's so insanely good with its STAB combo, setup, Intimidate, and prio. Gallade is just a strong attacker that doesn't even need an offensive item and can adjust its coverage to beat whatever you want it to. Tangela and Quag are just nice defensive tools obvi and Sneasel is really annoying to deal with for certain teams and having a fast STAB Knock Off is always gonna be good.
B - Your common BO stuff. Thwackey itself isn't bad with Knock Pivoting but obviously its a fucking Thwackey its just there bc its the sole reason Grassy HO exists. Sawk and Shiftry with the correct support can be very strong. +2 Knock + Sucker combo is also deadly. Silvally-Ghost IMO has fallen off a bit but isn't bad by any stretch of the measure. Whimsi has always been really underwhelming to me but Switcheroo + Choice item into stuff like Giga / Audino / Zard is still valuable. Poisonvally is a good tech here and there, Mesprit is kind of another HO merchant but not bad. Gets outspeed and killed by a lot of stuff / a lot of things can take its hits but its still fine. Lycan is usually a suicide lead nowadays I feel but its a good one and on Sand can be scary.
B- - Don't see the reason why you would run Aggron nowadays tbh but its there I guess. Hitmonlee + Comfey on their own aren't like amazing to me but obviously with Grassy Terrain that changes. Frosmoth is scary in the right conditions but those conditions can be hard to set sometimes. Rest of the tier is just Knock users/pivoters which I find valuable (and broken lowkey..) and just other stuff I think is generally fine but slightly niche like Lanturn and Haunter. Articuno I don't see unless its on stall so I don't have a great grasp on it. I think Absol is also slept on asf.
C - The niche guys. Rhydon I think should be B- or B after this recent PUPL, it got a decent spotlight but I'll keep it C for now. Rest of the tier I was kinda lazy with I don't see most of these mons besdies Regirock which is probably more of a B- tier. I think Grassvally could be higher. It's a fish mon but not a bad fish honestly. Has the coverage it needs.
D - Incredibly niche / bad mons that I don't wanna talk about cuz idrc enough.
edit: Meant to put Cincc higher than Absol and Cofagrigus should not be in B tier LOL woops that should be swapped with Runerigus

I think the tier is fine. I don't think Grassy terrain needs to go. If it does go then I think Gigaslash teams will remain more supreme than they already are and then the tier will become even more boring than people think it is now. Even then, I still think the tier is adapting where it needs to. People have began to use things like Ninjask and Scarf Ribombee to beat Thievul, as well as more niche things like Roar Charizard for things like Comfey. Thievul would have to run max speed timid to beat stuff like Scarf Bee which obviously takes away alot of the bulk it runs which leaves it open to other things so there's a lot of opportunity cost involved. People ran Audino in response to the classic Ghostvally terrain and now some people (actually I think just me and spitfire) adapted to those Audino teams by using Poisonvally / other mons over Ghostvally, which shows that the tier is still everchanging. I also think just regular good ol' HO has been evolving more in response to Grassy Terrain and Sand as well. The tier isn't really played or explored enough for me to support action atm because the impact no Grassy Terrain or etc. will have on the tier may not be fully realized for a long time which may leave the tier in a deteriorating state compared to it being fine rn (imo ofc). I think most of the people advocating for an immediate ban don't really have the experience in playing / building the tier necessary to make the best judgment calls at the moment and would just advocate people to try and get into the tier before pioneering for a honestly a very huge ban / tiering change of an old gen that's dead.
