Tanith First and Only

Badge.jpg

Hello Smogon, the Team 'Tanith First and Only' is a Balance-Team centered around the sweep of Sub Calm Mind Celebi and Mixed Flygon with the support of Spikes from Skarmory.I built the team some days ago after I read through some old teams on Smogon and got stuck by fatty's Calm Mind Celebi team which really inspired me when I started building the team.

The team works very well but the team of course has some weaks and I think that the potential of the team can increase.

Mad Larkin
(Skarmory) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
Nature:
Impish (+Def ; -SAtk)
EVs: 252 HP | 252 SDef | 4 Def

  • Brave Bird
  • Stealth Rock
  • Spikes
  • Roost
Why this Pokémon:

Skarmory and Tyranitar are working perfectly together because nearly all leads that are not handeld by Skarmory and kept in check by Tyranitar (Heatran and Infernape for example). Also, this two Pokémon are nearly resisting all weaknesses of the other one which is quite helpful.Skarmory also keeps the top threats of OU in check like the popular Rest Chesto Kingdra, Bulky Dragonite and Choice Band Scizor, just to name a few and provides the hazard support for the rest of team. Its unique typing and good defensive states also allow Skarmory to come back later in the game and get out spikes or wall a physical threat.

Why this set:

Special defensive Skarmory has become the standard set for Skarmory since it allows me to get out spikes against specially based Pokémon and take their hits better.Brave Bird ist mostly for the annoying Machamp leads and bulky Grasstypes like Shaymin and Celebi and it's quite helpful against this threats.Spikes and Stealth Rock are self-explanority, just there to support Celebi and Flygon and deal some more damage.Roost is for recovery and more durability.

"Try Again" Bragg
(Tyranitar) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
Nature: Jolly (+Spe ; -SAtk)
EVs: 4 Def | 252 Atk | 252 Spe

  • Stone Edge
  • Crunch
  • Pursuit
  • Earthquake
Why this Pokémon:

Tyranitar is the second part of the lead combination of Skarmory and Tyranitar and it takes care of the leads that Skarmory can't deal with, which are Starmie, Heatran and Infernape.I just have to be aware of Starmie because I don't want to switch into a Hydro Pump so i usually go to Celebi first and then to Tyranitar.Scarf Tyranitar also makes a efficent Revengekiller later on and it can easily pick off Rotom locked into Shadow Ball, Gengar or Lucario.

Why this set:

As I said before, Scarf Tyranitar's role is to pick off annoying Rotom, Gengar and Lucario and the Choice Scarf is necessary for that. The scarf is also important for the rare Infernape lead, which can cause problems.Stone Edge + Crunch are STAB Moves and work well together while Pursuit picks off weakend Gengar or locked Rotoms which are forced to switch.I chose Earthquake instead of Superpower because without it, I can't get the OHKO on Infernape which is quite annoying.

Colm Corbec
(Rotom-W) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Nature:
Bold (+Def ; -Atk)
EVs:
252 HP | 168 Def | 88 Spe

  • Thunderbolt
  • Hydro Pump
  • Subsitute
  • Will-O-Wisp
Why this Pokémon:

Rotom-W gives me the important resistances to Fighting and Normal-type attacks, which is important with Dynamic Punch Machamp and Lucario everywhere.Rotom also blocks Rapid Spin and is able to take on the common Spinner like Foretress and defensive Starmie with Will-O-Wisp and Thunderbolt. It also benefits from the Spikes and functions as a check to Taunt Gyarados, Sword Dance Lucario without Crunch and Scizor if Skarmory was taken out.

Why this set:

I didn't want to use Scarf Rotom since it lacked the bulk I needed for a Spinblocker and it could easily be picked off by Pursuit and I so I tried out a defensive Rotom with Subsitute and it works quite well. The advantage of Subsitute is, that is blocks annoying Puruits and status moves like Thunderwave, Toxic or Leech Seed.Will-O-Wisp cripples the common Tyranitar Switch_in , Thunderbolt hits Bulky Waters like Gyarados and Suicune and Hydro Pump scares away Heatran, which is a plus for the Washform.

Elim Rawne
(Suicune) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
Nature: Bold (+Def ; -Atk)
EVs:
252 HP | 192 Def | 64 Spe

  • Hydro Pump
  • Ice Beam
  • Calm Mind
  • Roar
Why this Pokémon:

Suicune is the Bulky Water of the team, that is nowadays in nearly every team and it works as a check to Infernape, Dragonite and Tyranitar to an extand.Suicune acts as a Phazer with Roar to deal more damage through Spikes and Stealth Rock, it acts as a tank and it is also able to sweep in the endgame when all counters are heavily damaged through hazards and the other team members.Suicune's variability is probably its strength and in the most battles Suicune has been the MVP.

Why this set:

I used an offensive Suicune but i hate beeing walled by Blissey and so I tested Roar Suicune.Suicune with Roar doesn't beat Blissey without hazards support but with Spikes up Blissey and other counters can't switch in without getting heavily damaged.Hydro Pump is the obvious STAB move and deals heavy damage even without a boost from Calm Mind.Ice Beam hits the common Switch-Ins like Celebi and Shaymin and the common Dragonite.

Brin Milo
(Flygon) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Naive (-SDef ; + Spe)
EVs:
80 Atk | 252 SAtk | 176 Spe

  • Draco Meteor
  • Earthquake
  • Fire Blast
  • Roost
Why this Pokémon:

I needed a Pokémon that could resist Electric and Groundmoves and something that could easily break stal and so I came to Mixed Flygon which wrecks havoc on most teams in combination with hazards.Mixed Flygon is also a great Stall Breaker because it is able to 2hko nearly every member of a stall team with the support of Spikes and Stealth Rock.In the first version of the team I used a Mixed Dragonite because it has more Bulk and much more power but Mixed Flygon conviced me with its typing, resistance to Stealth Rock, more Speed and the surprising effect.

Why this set:

In contrast to the Scarfset, Mixed Flygon has a great surprising effect because everybods expects the popular Choiceset and that causes at least one surprise kill per match which is quite helpful.Mixed Flygon is also surpringly strong, just for exapmle a Draco Meteor deals 58.4% - 68.9% to Bulky Gyarados and Fire Blast deals 66.5% - 78.4% to a specially defensive Skarmory while Earthquake deals 38.7% - 45.5% to the standard Blissey.Roost gives me recovery which is really important.

Ibram Gaunt
(Celebi) @ Leftovers
Ability:
Natural Cure
Nature: Bold (+Def ; -Atk)
EVs:252 HP | 84 Def | 172 Spe

  • Psychic
  • Earth Power
  • Calm Mind
  • Subsitute
Why this Pokémon:

Celebi was the first Pokemon I chosebecause it should be the core of this team and so it is clear why Celebi is on the team.Celebi keeps the problematic Bulky waters like Swampert in check, profits from the hazards support and can easily sweep in the endgame after the counters have been weakend or removed by the other team members.Celebi works as a counter to Breloom, Gyarados and other Bulky Waters to an extand.

Why this set:

Celebi with Calm Mind + Subsitute is damn awesome.I mean, 101 HP SUb, which isn't broken by Seismic Stoss from Blissey, great bulk and wiith Psychic + Earth Power Celebi hast great coverage only resisted by Skarmory, Cresselia and Celebi in OU.Energy Ball is of course an option over Psychic but I really need the coverage and Psychic did pretty well for me.Max HP is for a 101 HP Sub, 172 Spe EVs let me outspeed Timit Heatran by one point and the rest is just put into the physical bulk. This thing also profits from the hazard support and I can just recommend this set !

End Notes:

This team did pretty well for me but I think that the potential can increase , I thought of changing Rotom to an offensive or defensive Sub Split Rotom Set and changing Suicune to Gyarados.
The biggest I noticed is Nasty Plot Infernape with Vaccum Wave, which can easily 6-0 me so I hope for ratings x)

Hi _TyRoGuE_, cool team. There are some issues with it though - powerful fire types such as Nasty Plot / Swords Dance Infernape and Choice Specs Heatran can very easily break you. Let's look at Ape; with a moveset of Fire Blast / Grass Knot / Vacuum Wave on the Nasty Plot set and Fire Punch / Mach Punch / ThunderPunch on the Swords Dance set, it'll easily 6-0 you. It can set up a boost versus Tyranitar locked into Pursuit and then proceed to cut through your entire team - Suicune goes down to Grass Knot / ThunderPunch, Rotom / Skarm / Celebi fall to its fire move of choice, and Tyranitar dies to either priority fighting move. Flygon avoids being OHKO'd by any of Swords Dance Infernape's moves after a boost (bar Close Combat but if it runs that it lacks the ability to kill something else) but it still loses to the Nasty Plotter; even though it resists Fire Blast, it will be taken out, as the attack deals 96.7% - 114%, a guaranteed KO after Stealth Rock and nearly always a KO even without it.

Choice Specs Heatran is another tough threat, as it will 2HKO everything on your team at minimum if it obtains a Flash Fire boost from Rotom's Will-O-Wisp. Let's examine some calcs with its main attack, Fire Blast, versus your main checks to it in Suicune, Tyranitar and Flygon.
Vs. Suicune: 35.4% - 41.6% not a reliable switch, you'll be taking SR damage as well as the hit and you have no recovery; you'll be able to switch in to force it out once, since the second time it'll just outrun and finish you off.
W/ Flash Fire boost vs. Suicune: 52.7% - 62.4% Dead. It outruns you as well, so you can't get off a Hydro Pump (which doesn't even OHKO).
Vs. Tyranitar: 47.1% - 55.6% is a one-time check; it can't switch in more than once.
Vs. Flygon: 71.8% - 84.7% Yeah. If it gets a FF boost you're OHKO'd.

Because it can 2HKO everything, you have to rely on revenging it with Flygon or Celebi. No good player will leave Tran in on Gon and bringing Celebi into Tran just screams "I have Earth Power". So as you can see, an intelligent SpecsTran user can very easily run through your team. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to get an Infernape sweep on you though. To help with these threats, I would like to recommend using specially defensive Tyranitar over your Scarf set and ResTalk Gyarados over your Suicune. Let's start with Tyranitar. It is arguably the best Heatran counter in the game - nothing Tran does bar a Specs Earth Power can break Tar, and that is only a 2HKO; you can abuse this with a switch to Skarmory to get off more Spikes. SpD Tar also gives you a reliable Stealth Rock user, allowing you to free up Skarm of some entry hazard responsibility and letting you use Whirlwind in Stealth Rock's spot. Tyranitar also checks Gengar very well, living even a Life Orb Focus Blast after Stealth Rock damage and a Shadow Ball. Now, about Gyarados. It is an incredible Infernape counter, countering every set it can possibly run bar Swords Dance (I'll be suggesting a change to fix that later). With the spread I'm about to suggest, a +2 Nasty Plot Grass Knot will never KO Gyara even after Stealth Rock damage. Gyara keeps Cune's phazing capabilities, and while the lack of a second Calm Mind sweeper may be disappointing at times, Celebi should be more than sufficient (although SubCM+sandstorm user seems a bit odd, but I'll address that later). Gyara also sleep absorbs, which is extremely helpful against the likes of Breloom and lead Roserade.
Tyranitar @ Chesto Berry | Careful | EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpD
Stealth Rock / Crunch / Earthquake / Roar
Gyarados @ Leftovers | Careful | EVs: 248 HP / 196 Def / 64 SpD
Waterfall / Roar / Rest / Sleep Talk
Next off, I'd like to recommend a moveset change on Skarmory to Taunt+Lum Berry. You really need to prevent Roserade leads from setting up Toxic Spikes, as they severely hamper your Tyranitar and Celebi's survivability. With this set, you can take their Sleep Powder and respond with Taunt, disabling them from laying up the deadly entry hazards; it will also help against the rare lead Smeargle. After you Taunt, you can set up a layer of Spikes and play from there depending on how they react. The set isn't very different from your current one; all you need to change is the item (Lum Berry), the EVs (take 96 EVs from SpD and put them in Spe to outrun most Choice Band Tyranitar and opposing Taunt Skarmory), and the moveset (Taunt and Whirlwind over Stealth Rock and Brave Bird - losing the ability to 2HKO Machamp with Brave Bird is unfortunate but Gyarados makes an exceptionally solid switch-in and Skarm is a great phazer you don't want to pass up).

Next, I think you should change your Rotom's set, which doesn't really seem to know what it's trying to accomplish. Substitute with no Pain Split in conjunction with a Sand Stream user is just asking for trouble, especially when you rely on it heavily to stop entry hazards from being Rapid Spun. A bulky Choice Scarf set seems like an excellent replacement - it gives you the Trick absorber you lost by changing Tyranitar's moveset, a stopper to Life Orb Rapid Spin Starmie, a Trick user of your own to cripple last Pokemon setup sweepers such as CurseLax, and a solid overall revenge killer. Timid nature, EV spread of 252 HP / 40 SpA / 216 Spe with a moveset of Thunderbolt / Shadow Ball / Hydro Pump / Trick should be sufficient. Now, here is how this helps your team. With max HP, LO Rapid Spin Starmie can't OHKO you with Hydro Pump if it uses it on your switch, while you outrun and KO it back with T-bolt. Forretress's Payback fails to KO, so you can switch in without fear of dying; after, you can pivot to Flygon for a Fire Blast KO. Tricking opposing stall's Blissey a Scarf in conjunction with stall-breaking Flygon basically means opposing stall is screwed. The 216 Speed EVs outrun Jolly +1 Gyarados while the remaining EVs are pumped into SpA to give your attacks more bite. While it may seem silly to run max HP on a Scarfer, the power drop isn't that bad and the entry hazards will make up for it. The last thing Scarf Rotom does is defend well against SD Infernape - when you switch Gyarados in and see it dance up, you can simply switch to Rotom on the ThunderPunch and kill Ape off.

The last change I'd like to suggest is Recover over Substitute on Celebi; if you want a SubCM set, use Jirachi (which is actually a decent idea - give it a shot!) because it's not affected by the common sandstorm. One of Celebi's best attributes is its longevity and Sub+sand+no healing really cripples it; basically the same problem you have with Rotom at the moment. Recover+CM is a very good weapon against stall, especially if you Trick Blissey a Scarf with Rotom.

if you didn't read all that:
-SpD Tar > current set
-ResTalk Gyarados > Suicune
-Taunt+Lum Skarm > current set
-Scarf Rotom-W > current set
-Recover > Substitute on Celebi

That's all I got for you, good team and good luck.

Hi tyrouge nice team.

Just one quick thing is that a mix dragonite would be far better over flygon, sure you lose that X4 resist to fire but you have tyranitar and suicune to take those hits. using dragonite means things like Ape and Tran can't hurt you ask much [akthough most apes have HP ice or stone edge]

another thing is with so much hazards support i think switching suicune to a rest talker and mking celebi more offensive would be better.

Dragonite @ Life Orb
Mild 56 ATK 252 SP ATK 200 SPEED
Draco Meteor
Fire Blast
Superpower
Roost
Suicune @ Leftovers
Bold 252 HP 252 DEF 6 SPEED
Roar
Surf
Rest
Sleep Talk
Celebi @ Life Orb
Timid 6 HP 252 SP ATK 252 SPEED/ 32 HP 224 SP ATK 252 SPEED
Nasty Plot
Earth Power
Hidden Power Fire
Leaf Storm/ Energy Ball/ Grass Knot/ Psychic

hope i helped also Earth Power+ HP fire is not common on celebi so you can surprise people.

Small nitpick- it's only a 2x resist, as Ground doesn't resist Fire. Flygon's advantages over Dragonite in terms of typing would be a resistance to Rock and an immunity to Electric. Celebi, Rotom, and Tyranitar can take electric attacks well, and while the Rock resist is a little more needed, Skarmory does a decent job taking Stone Edges.

Dragonite does have superior bulk and power though, and access to priority which can alleviate his speed woes.
