Ever since the start of the Crown Tundra, Tapu Bulu has been outclassed by Rillaboom, which has priority Grassy Glide to revenge kill faster Pokemon such as Scale Shot Garchomp, Knock Off to remove items from its checks, and U-turn to pivot into teammates. However, ever since WCoP started, Tapu Bulu has seen somewhat of a resurgence with its better bulk and Fairy typing letting it check Urshifu-R and Garchomp. Horn Leech is its preferred STAB move, as it offsets Life Orb recoil and is boosted by Grassy Terrain. Close Combat is able to 2HKO Skarmory and Corviknight after a Swords Dance boost. Stone Edge can OHKO Zapdos and Dragonite after a Swords Dance boost. Victini is an excellent partner, as it can use U-turn on its checks such as Rotom-W, Landorus, and Tapu Fini to bring in Tapu Bulu to help deal with them, while also handling Buzzwole and Corviknight. Choice Band Kartana is also great, as it appreciates Tapu Bulu removing Corviknight and Skarmory to overwhelm teams while also boosting Leaf Blade's power.
