[OVERVIEW]

Tauros stampedes into RBY Ubers as one of the most formidable wallbreakers in the tier. Although it is not as dominant and centralizing as in OU, it is still one of the most dangerous Pokemon in the tier thanks to the combination of STAB Body Slam and Hyper Beam. It can make use of its wallbreaking potential at all stages of a game, functioning as one of the scariest leads and also as an endgame cleaner, putting up a respectable fight against both Mew and Mewtwo. Tauros's 110 base speed gives it a 21.48% critical hit rate, which combined with Body Slam's paralysis chance and Tauros's impeccable coverage, makes it nearly impossible to respond to Tauros defensively.

Although Tauros's offensive potential is nearly unmatched, it leaves a lot to be desired defensively. Mewtwo has a 76.2% chance to 2HKO Tauros with Psychic before factoring in critical hits or special drops, and a critical hit or boosted Psychic can OHKO Tauros. Since Tauros is reliant on speed for its offensive prowess, it is also ruined by paralysis. Tauros also necessitates paralysis support, especially against Mewtwo, as spreading paralysis with Body Slam is unreliable. Tauros also lacks a key move that most offensive Pokemon have—Explosion. A lack of Explosion is a heavy detriment to Tauros as dealing massive damage to Mewtwo while simultaneously denying a recovery turn is extremely valuable. Tauros's method of wallbreaking is also inherently luck reliant, as it often needs critical hits and paralysis to break through Mewtwo. Barrier Mewtwo in particular is a brutal matchup for Tauros, as it often needs multiple critical hits and full paralysis turns to fully break.

Set Description
=========
Tauros's high critical hit rate and Body Slam's paralysis chance make it very difficult to switch into, as even the bulky Mewtwo and Mew hate being paralyzed. Hyper Beam complements this, being able to finish off weakened foes, while a critical hit Hyper Beam OHKOes most of the tier outright. Earthquake and Blizzard complement Tauros's STAB moves by hitting the two most common Normal resists—Gengar and Rhydon—super effectively. Alternatively, Tauros can equip Thunderbolt to hit Cloyster, a Pokemon that normally checks Tauros due to its high defense, super-effectively. Tauros can also use Leer to break through Mew and Mewtwo. Even if Tauros loses head-to-head, the defense drop can make it easier for a teammate to revenge kill. For example, Snorlax always KOs a Mewtwo at -1 Defense with Self-Destruct. Leer also has the benefit of reapplying the foe's paralysis, allowing Tauros to outspeed Mewtwo when both are paralyzed, while also enabling plays such as revenge killing a paralyzed Mewtwo with a paralyzed Snorlax. Tauros can run Stomp in the lead slot to cover the Jynx matchup, as it reduces Lovely Kiss's accuracy to an effective 52.2%.

When leading, Tauros tends to match up well against leads that lack reliable recovery, such as Jynx, Gengar, Hypno, and Zapdos. Against Jynx and Gengar, it needs to either land a critical hit or dodge their sleep-inducing moves to win, but doing so generates a huge advantage for its team. Jynx and Hypno often carry Counter for Tauros in the lead slot, so it is a move Tauros needs to watch out for, generally by using Earthquake or Stomp if the opposing lead is suspected to have counter. Against leads such as Alakazam, Starmie, and especially Mewtwo, it is generally wise to switch to a teammate to take paralysis, making pokemon like Chansey good teammates.

Tauros can also shine in the endgame as a dangerous cleaner on Explosion-heavy teams. Lategame Tauros excels on teams with heavy paralysis and Explosion support. Mew and Mewtwo running Thunder Wave and Self-Destruct or Explosion are excellent teammates for this reason, as they are able to punch holes in the opposing team for Tauros to clean up. Snorlax and Exeggutor also provide Explosion support. Starmie and Chansey spread paralysis while also checking special attackers, notably being able to switch into Ice-types that force Tauros out, such as Cloyster and Articuno.
