First off, I haven't battled with this team yet (I'm still EV training), but I want to know if it's going to have any huge flaws etc so I can alter it and avoid wasting time training someone I won't use. I am new to competitive battling.
Heatran (lead)
Flash fire
Timid @air balloon
252 sp atk/ 252 spe/ 4 spD
- stealth rock
- lava plume
- earth power
- taunt
Heatran is usually a powerhouse for most players (I think), but I hope to use him a little differently. My goal is to have Heatran take out the enemy lead and prevent them from setting up hazards. I could have picked a faster pokemon, but I needed a strong, decently-defensive fire type. Heatran is also the only pokemon with a 4x weakness, hence the air balloon. This way he is almost guaranteed to live to fight later in the match. Later, he would prove to be a useful stallbreaker. Lava plume is chosen over flamethrower for its higher chance to burn and cripple enemies.
Mienshao
Regenerator
Naive @life orb
252 atk/ 252 spe/ 4 hp
- fake out
- u-turn
- jump kick/hi-jump kick?
- stone edge?
This is probably pretty standard for Mienshao, using fake out and then u-turning away. Is the use of hi-jump kick recommended over jump kick? I know it is more powerful, but it also is slightly less accurate and the recoil is really unappealing due to Mienshao's frail defenses. Also, ignore the nature.. I know jolly would have been better, but I was not able to find one with said nature.
Galvantula
Compound Eyes
modest @ ?
252 sp atk/ 252 spe/ 4 hp
- thunder
- volt switch
- bug buzz
- energy ball
Galvantula's purpose here is similar to Mienshao's; hit hard and switch out. The benefit of having moves that damage and switch are very beneficial for me, because I think strong prediction is probably one of the few things I have going for me. I am not sure what item Galvantula should use..
Mandibuzz
Overcoat
Timid @lum berry/leftovers?
252 hp/ 128 def/ 128 spD
- nasty plot
- dark pulse
- air slash
- rest?
I saw a similar set on the creative moveset thread. The goal is to inflict damage with Mienshao and Galvantula, and when a counter is presented, u-turn or volt switch out to Mandibuzz. Mandibuzz is immune to psychic and ground type moves, as well as being decently bulky. From there, she would boost and attempt to sweep. As I said, I'm new to competitive battling and such, so I am not entirely sure whether Mandibuzz would benefit from def or sp def more. I am unsure of the item.. I am unable to breed for roost, so rest is the only viable option.
Whimsicott
Prankster
Jolly/Careful @ leftovers
252 hp/ 252 spD/ 4 atk
- leech seed
- worry seed
- encore
- u-turn
This Whimsicott is here to absorb electric and grass type moves which Vaporeon would have trouble against. It aims to force a switch or give me an advantage if the opponent stays in. Worry seed forces opponents that depend on their abilities to switch out, or to shut them down and prevent sweeps (moxie, magic guard, etc). Leech seed and encore are standard, and u-turn is to allow me to do damage and maintain momentum.
Vaporeon
Water absorb
calm @absorb bulb
224 def/ 248 hp/ 36 spAtk
- wish
- protect
- scald
- ice beam
Vaporeon is here to support the rest of the team with wish, as well as to switch in on any water type attacks Heatran may encounter. Upon being hit by a water type attack, Vaporeon regains 25% hp and has its spAtk boosted by 50%. This allows it to do its thing from a very good position. Hopefully, it is decently bulky enough to withstand a few hits. Scald is to burn enemies, and ice beam is for coverage.
If you can see any large weaknesses in my team, please let me know. Also, how important is it to have a spin blocker? Would my heatran lead be sufficient enough to prevent most other leads from setting up? As Mandibuzz is my sweeper, she would appreciate it if stealth rock was not set up.
Thanks in advance!
