Team Aggro Spike Rock

This is my first team for DPPt online battling. I'm trying to get back into the game and this is what I've made so far from looking at stuff in on the site. I haven't won any games yet cause I haven't really got the hang of battling yet since I quit back before RSE came out. So my team probably reflects on how much I don't know about battling or team building.

A lot of my failures are from simply not knowing what to do against certain things and not knowing how to use my own team. I do think I've assembled a halfway decent team. I just need to learn how to the team.

I will probably ask a lot of questions when you give me suggestions. I haven't played pokemon in over ten years.

Empoleon (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 156 HP/100 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Aqua Jet
- Grass Knot
- Stealth Rock
- Hydro Pump

--- I really liked the idea of Stealth Rock + Spikes. So I figured this was a good option for a lead to get Stealth Rock out there. The strategic pokedex said that Torrent Hydro Pump can be rather painful, so I'm not exactly sure how that is since I've never experienced that awesome damage yet. Though the idea of nuking something for Hydro Pump and then finishing it off with Aqua Jet sounds pretty cool. Yet again, I don't know if this is a good lead or not.

Skarmory (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 252 HP/64 Atk/176 Def/16 Spd
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Roost
- Spikes
- Whirlwind
- Brave Bird

--- A spiker. I don't think this really requires much of on my end to explain. Pretty straight forward. Although, I don't like the idea of Brave Bird. I don't really see myself using it that often but that's what the strategic pokedex said to use.

Togekiss (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Air Slash
- Aura Sphere
- Roost
- Thunder Wave

--- When I saw this I thought it would fit in nicely. It has a lot of Special Defense so it could switch in on a special attack. The only thing I dislike about it is the pokemon's typing. Normal/Flying doesn't really amount to many resists or immunities compared to its weaknesses. Though the idea of flinching pokemon until they faint is really attractive.

Lucario (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Extremespeed
- Ice Punch
- Swords Dance

--- Another standard set. Setup and sweep.

Tyranitar (M) @ Babiri Berry
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Crunch
- Dragon Dance
- Fire Punch
- Stone Edge

--- Tyranitar has always been once of my favorite pokmeon. Dragon Dance is really nice and with the EV spread I have he has 403 Attack and 221 Speed. The smogon pokedex said that if my opponent lets me get a Dragon Dance or two off, I can sweep their entire team with ease. Not sure if that's accurate but with 403 Attack without a Dragon Dance, I could believe it.

Flygon (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- U-turn

--- x4 weakness to Ice. Although this is a bad thing, I would switch to either Empoleon or Togekiss (depending which is still up that can wall it). Its a standard set from what the pokedex said. I just needed something that could absorb electric attacks that also added another defense to Earthquake.

Overall I think I've made a decent team. I'm sure there are some holes in it and I do want to fix them. I generally want to have at least two sweepers and walls. The rest can be other sweepers or walls or maybe something a bit on the supportive side. This overall is meant to be an aggressive Spike + Stealth Rock team. I might not be utilizing the strategy to its fullest and that's why I'm posting it.

Hoping to get some great feedback on this team.

Have you tested this team yet? You seem as though you just read a bunch of strategy pokedex entries and thrown a team together...this team has pretty bad synergy with 3 electric, 3 ground, and 3 fighting weakness's, heck with 2-3 confusion haxes lead machamp can sweep your entire team, as air slash fails to 1hitkO...

I suggest you look at some teams in the RMT archive to see some examples of good team, sorry but this team is just a bunch of pokemon thrown together at a glance, maybe expand on your descriptions and how your team interacts if this isn't true, as pokemon like Infernap can easily 6-0 you by the looks of this team.

I already said I haven't won any games with it. So that answers your first question.

I picked the pokemon out of the pokedex that I thought would work well together behind an aggressive Spike + Stealth Rock strategy. Maybe I didn't pick the right pokemon. I was thinking of using Magnezone, Gyarados, and Rotom-S but wasn't sure if they were better picks. There was a lot of options for me to choose from so I was kind of over whelmed with all the information.

well this is a bad idea, seeing as you have 3 pokes weak to 3 of some of the most common attacking types, maybe play around with some archive teams until you get the feel of synergy, regardless of if you tested it or not, you say you haven't won any, which tells me its not working out...and since you admit to taking random pokes that seemed to be good it shows you didn't put much effort to edit and make your team better, its good to have a nice framework for a team and then take it to this forum to polish it and make it better, but the stage this team is at your looking at needing to change multiple members, i suggest trying to find what works for you, not asking others to make your team for you.

Well good luck.

Uh, I did test it. This is the third time saying that.
Yes, you tested it. Did you change members of the team to fix why you lost, or tried to improve the team - even marginally - before posting here? No. Before posting teams on this forum, playtest them more than a couple of times, see what works, what doesn't, and what should be accordingly changed/replaced. Posting a team you just made and playtested a few times that has glaring weaknesses that you haven't even won once with will not get you good rates, and the majority of the smogon community isn't interested in building a team for you. Have a nice day.
