BUILDING THE TEAM

I decided to base my team on Dragonite mainly because i love him and he has so many different sets to choose from so he is the core of my team
149.png

I then decided to make Dragonite a bulky physical attacker so next i needed a bulky special attacker. I went through a couple of choices here, my original thought was a Metagross, but after seeing Cresselias base SAtk i fell in love with it, plus its ability to learn Moonlight let it take hits and recover them.

Now i needed a mixed sweeper who had good SAtk but could work as a physical attacker to. I looked at Electravire and Magmortar. My choice ended up being Magmortar due to Larva Plume and its good burn rate which let him cripple his foes.

Next i needed a lead that could promote my Dragonite and my Magmortar, my instant reaction was a Sword Passer. My friend suggested Ninjask and so i went for a look. I decided to use him, because his speed stat was incredible giving him a headstart on other leads. Plus if Sword Dance couldn't be pulled off the Speed Boost was still up for grabs

Now another mixed special sweeper. This time i wanted a water type that could take out Ice pokemon, to protect my Dragonite and Ninjask. I looked at Blastoise, but then my attention turned to my old pal Lapras. He has 4x resistance to ice plus he can learn Toxic to cripple stronger foes.

Finally a support that could give my whole team an advantage. I thought a Dual Screener would fit this position. Ampharos has only 1 weakness so he could freely switch into most types. He could also get some good STAB on Flying types which hassle my Ninjask. So my final team was formed

A CLOSER LOOK

The Lead

ninjask.png

Ninjask@Focus Sash
Ability: Speed Boost
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 128 Def / 128 SDef / 252 Spe
Moves:
Substitute
Sword Dance
Baton Pass
X-Scissor

My Ninjask's role is basically to go into battle, pull off a substitute. If he doesnt break it I will Sword Dance until he does. After 3 Sword Dances I Baton Pass to Dragonite and Outrage away. If the Substitute is broken, I keep using it until my health is too low to release another one, then I Baton Pass off to either Cresselia or Lapras. They get the bonus Speed so they can fire off some strong Special Attacks.

Taunt is my Ninjask's worst enemy, it completely screws the plan up so I need to predict it and Baton Pass out before they havbe the chance to pull it off. Aerodactyls are the usual suspects.

X-Scissor is there fore STAB if i manage to pull of some Sword Dance, if the lead is an Azelf / Uxie usually i will use an X-Scissor as it usually deals some great damage.

THE DUAL-SCREENER

ampharos.png

Ampharos@Light Clay
Ability: Static
Nature: Calm
EV's: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SDef
Moves:
Light Screen
Reflect
Thunderbolt
Hidden Power Grass

When my Ampharos comes into battle the first thing I need to do is analyse my opponent. Figure if he is a special attacker or a physical offender. Dependeing on what they are i will use either Reflect or Light Screen. Then I fire off some Thunderbolts and HP Grass if nessecary. Otherwise I just switch out to whoever is best suited for the match up.

THE SPECIAL BULK

cresselia.png

Cresselia@ Leftovers
Ability: Leftovers
Nature: Timid
EVs: 96 HP / 160 Spe / 252 SAtk
Moves:
Signal Beam
Psychic
Moonlight
Calm Mind

If I can get off some Calm Minds i will but otherwise Cresselia is extremely powerful. It has gotten me out of 5 vs 1 situations. Signal beam is there for any incoming Dark bulks like Tyrannitar, or it can attempt to get a kill on Weavile. Psychic is a great STAB that can even 2HKO bulky waters like Swampert and Blastoise after a Calm Mind.

Moonlight lets me take hits and recover them off. It has proved me worthy in countless situations even against strong Steel types like Scizor being able to 2HKO after 3 Calm Minds.

THE PHYSICAL BULK

dragonite.png

Dragonite@Leftovers
Ability: Inner Focus
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 HP / 196 Atk / 60 Spe
Moves:
Outrage
Earthquake
Roost
Dragon Dance

Dragonite plays the same role as Cresselia. Outrage provides STAB against other Dragons and against about everything except Steel. Earthquake is what lets me break through Steel's defense. Roost lets me recover off hits and Dragon Dance provides me with everything Ninjask has to offer if it cant get the Baton Pass.

After Ninjask's Sword Dances (hopefully 3) Outrage can OHKO Heatran and Scizor + most other Steel's. Its weaknesses include Weavile and Mamoswine with Ice Shard which usually OHKO my Dragonite due to its Defense stat.

THE MIXED SWEEPER

magmortar.png

Magmortar@Life Orb
Ability: Flame Body
Nature: Mild
EVs: 84 Atk / 172 Spe / 252 SAtk
Moves:
Cross Chop
Lava Plume
Thunderbolt
Hidden Power Ice

Magmortar's set lets me hit every type. Usual switch ins on it include Vaporeon or Rhyperior. Thunderbolt lets me hit Vaporeon while Cross Chop lets me hit Rhyperior. My Ninjasks Sword Dances let me power up Cross Chop which is a great help against Blissey which is a very common wall, it also hits Snorlax's which usually like to spam Curse. My Life Orb lets me 2HKO Snorlax and Blissey without Sword Dance. Lava Plume provides good STAB also it has a good burn rate which can lead to crippling my opponent which has let me win many matches.

HP Ice is good for incoming Dragons and while Thunderbolt gets rid of Water threats and Flying types. HP Ice also coes in handt vs Zapdos

SPECIAL SWEEPER

lapras.png

Lapras@Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
Nature: Modest
EVs: 192 HP / 112 Def / 160 SAtk / 44 SDef
Moves:
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt
Surf
Toxic

My Lapras works off STABs. It is my favourite switch-in against Water's. Its ability lets me heal any damage with the hopefully Water attack. It can hit Dragon Flying and Grass with Ice Beam. Fire Ground and Rock with Surf and Water with Thunderbolt. Toxic helps me deal with Blisseys which repel my SAtks.

Hello. This team is very unique.

Well the first thing I noticed is this team lacks Stealth Rock which all teams should have, especially when setting up for a sweeper such as Dragonite. I suggest replacing Ampharos with a Dual Screen Bronzong.

Bronzong @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Relaxed
Ivs: 1 Spe
EVs: 252 HP / 152 Atk / 8 Def / 96 SpD
~ Reflect
~ Light Screen
~ Stealth Rock
~ Gyro Ball / Explosion

Bronzong is a very reliable Pokemon and will get your screens up no problem. You've also got Stealth Rock which is helpful against Gyarados and Salamence, and for sweeping in general.

I'm not sure Ninjask is right for this team with only 1 real physical attacker (Dragonite) but if you really want to use it then use this EV spread: 176 HP / 252 Atk / 80 Spe. All that Speed isn't necessary on the fastest Pokemon in OU. You could replace it with a standard Stealth Rock lead such as Jirachi or Infernape.

On Cresselia, I'd try Hidden Power Fighting over Signal Beam. It hits Tyranitar and Weavile harder than Signal Beam while having neutral coverage against Scizor. Since Dragonite is generally a slow Pokemon, you might want to use the standard support set. Use Max HP / Def with Thunder Wave / Reflect / Moonlight / Ice Beam or Pyschic. This gives you a good counter to multiple Pokemon such as Salamence, Flygon, and Infernape.

Magmortar is an interesting Pokemon. Heatran is generally better, but then again it doesn't have Thunderbolt. Since Magmortar is meant to be sweeping, I would give it Fire Blast > Lava Plume. You still have a small chance to burn stuff. Since you are slower than Salamence and Flygon, you can't hit it with Hidden Power Ice. For this reason, I'd replace Hidden Power Ice with Hidden Power Grass (for Swampert).

With Lapras, Magmortar, Dragonite, and Ninjask your team has a tremendous Rock weakness. You should certainly replace Lapras, I suggest with Starmie.

Starmie @ Leftovers
EVs: 156 HP / 136 Def / 216 Spe
Nature: Timid
~ Hydro Pump
~ Thunderbolt
~ Rapid Spin
~ Recover / Ice Beam

Starmie is a great Rapid Spinner, who can keep Rocks away so your Pokemon can come in with less trouble. It too, has a wide Special Attacking movepool like Lapras but a lot more Speed to revenge kill MixMence and some Gyarados.

Good luck with this team.

Switch Starmie out with Lapras to give you that same coverage you need while providing Rapid Spin support. This also helps stop your slight Gyarados and Salamence weakness. As metanight said you need SR on your team.

Switch Dragon Claw out with Outrage. This way you have bulk and it will be much more difficult for pokemon to stop you. I also suggest testing Fire Punch over Earthquake to hit Bronzong and Forretress for much more damage (And Skarmory but it'll still wall it)
