Team Fatass (5th Gen OU RMT)

Hey guys this is the first team I built for Gen. 5, only got back on to Smogon recently. Notice I don't have any Gen. 5 mons at all, I have very little knowledge about the current metagame but I think the team is decent. I wanted to go for a stall team, mainly because I wanted to play something else other than the Hyper Offensive I usually do.

Team is called Team Fatass because let's face it, this is a really beefy team made up of porky Pokemon whose physical appearances can be quite... plump.

Teambuilding Process:
Most stall teams employ some sort of residual damage weather like Sandstorm/Hail, and Hippowdon is the mon for that. He's also slow enough to make sure Abomasnow, Politoed and Ninetails don't get their weather up.

I wanted to utilize the new Gliscor, he looks incredibly bulky with that Toxic Heal.

I needed something to complement Gliscor's typing and provide a decent special sponge. I found the perfect pokemon in Empoleon.

I tried these two out for a spin, they're pretty incredible aside from that nasty BoltBeam weakness. Blissey patches that up real nicely, and provides Wish support so that Empoleon can stay in longer.

Every stall team needs entry hazards and a spinner, right? There's no better pokemon for that job than Forretress.

There was a gaping Fighting weakness that needed to be addressed, not to mention the lack of a spinblocker. Sub+Disable Gengar can serve as a spinblocker while doubling as a late-game sweeper.

POKE-Rising_hippowdon_25.jpg

Hippowdon (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Roar
- Slack Off

(okay I couldn't find a human-Hippowdon picture, sue me)
Description/Moveset: Hippowdon is my usual lead, it's slow enough to beat all other fully evolved weather starters. This is the standard set, EVs optimized to make Hippowdon shrug off any physical attack. It's my primary SR user, and it serves a very linear purpose of shuffling the opponents team around to rack up Sandstorm/entry hazard damage. Stealth Rock and Roar to shuffle teams around, Slack Off to recover and Earthquake for a reliable STAB attack.
395.jpg

Empoleon (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Scald
- Toxic
- Knock Off
- Roar

Description/Moveset: Empoleon serves as a special wall that can take Ice Beams aimed at Gliscor and Psychics/Shadow Balls aimed at Gengar. EVs and nature are standard Empoleon meant to take Special hits aimed at Gliscor. Scald/Knock Off/Toxic are all meant to wear down the opponent, while Roar helps it phaze and rack up hazard/SS damage.
242.jpg

Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Wish
- Protect
- Thunder Wave
- Seismic Toss

Description/Moveset: Blissey is the second special wall, and it helps the team through Wish support. EVs and Nature are, once again, standard(making sure Blissey doesn't die to a Brick Break from Ledian.) Thunder Wave helps against things like Mixed Infernape (who destroys my team otherwise.) Wish and Protect to spread the recovery and rack up Toxic, while Seismic Toss is there for an attack move.
472.jpg

Gliscor (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Protect
- Earthquake
- Toxic
- Taunt

Description/Moveset: Gliscor is the physical wall that takes Drain Punches and Close Combats aimed at Empoleon/Blissey/Forretress and acts as a solid Breloom counter (I hate Loom.) EVs are optimized to beat Jellicent (so Smogon's page says) while providing good defensive bulk. Protect to rack up Toxic damage and heal (really, really great heal), EQ for a STAB attack. Taunt is there to stop things like Forretress/Ferrothorn from setting up.

205.jpg

Forretress (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
IVs: 0 Speed
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Atk / 144 Def
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Rapid Spin
- Spikes
- Gyro Ball
- Earthquake

Description/Moveset: Forretress provides the Spikes that build this team up so much, and provides Rapid Spin (although my team admittedly isn't that weak to hazards.) EVs and Nature help Forretress take Physical hits while OHKOing standard Heatran and Magnezone as they switch in, 0 Speed IVs and a negative nature to power up Gyro Ball and spin after a slow mon lays down hazards. I don't run Toxic Spikes because let's face it, I already have two Toxic users and a T-Wave user. Gyro Ball can hit Gengar, Tyranitar, and Dragonite, while EQ ko's Heatran and Magnezone after SR damage.
094.jpg

Gengar (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Disable
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball

Description/Moveset: Gengar serves as the team's spinblocker and late-game sweeper. SubDisable Gengar is amazing, I've always thought Disable would be so much better with 80 or 90 accuracy. Guess what, it's now at 100. EVs and Nature are standard for any Special Sweeper. Substitute and Disable make up this set, making it very hard to hit Gengar neutrally. Substitute protects him from status/Pursuit, while Disable forces so many switches to rack up hazard damage. Focus Blast and Shadow Ball provide good neutral coverage, although the accuracy of Focus Blast is a bit sad.

So that's pretty much it for my first RMT, hope you enjoyed it. I'm open to any suggestions, but I'd rather not replace Gliscor and Empoleon.
(yes I partly stole shrang's RMT format)

To-do:
Add threatlist
Fix format
Find that human Hippowdon pic

edit: Yeah I find myself completely fucked over by SD Gliscor, I was thinking of running Ice Beam on Empoleon. Any thoughts?

eh im not a huge fan of hippowdon in teams like these...you have most of what he covers well covered anyway with blissey/gliscor/forry and so it seems like hes just putting up weather, which in fact is a disadvantage to you because disable gengar struggles heavily vs cm reuniclus when it cant regain lefties after sub. and you have empoleon and blissey anyway so its not like weather is a huge threat, and sun will win regardless (darmanitan + volcarona will be too much and even worse, many sun teams are catching onto wobb + duggy for taking out things like hippowdon).

ideally, id put sr over something like knock off on empoleon and switch hippowdon out for something like haze/scald/recover/ice beam milotic with a mix of sdef and def (probably calm 252 hp 252 def 4 spD). its a little unorthadox but it counters sd gliscor and pretty much beats cm reuniclus with ease or at least stalls it out pretty easily, taking the slack off of gengar. it also gives you a fire-resist that helps a lot (it would be your first one..). if haze seems shitty, you could try dragon tail, or even try to fit in rest stalk...it would give another useful status absorber. because youll be losing sand, gengar could handle reuniclus and conk a lot better too with the sub disable strategy. also, sd scizor can rip holes in your team and milotic fixes that as well (to a degree)..you could run some speed though to help out a little :P

Unfortunatly. Breloom doesn't care about your Gliscor because Toxic doesn't do anything and Earthquake is resisted. Unless you invest speed EV"s, Empoleon won't outspeed Breloom. To help you with your Breloom and Gliscor problem I suggest defensive Gliscor with a speed creep.

472.gif

Gliscor (Gliscor) (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Substitute
- Ice Fang
- Protect

The extra 4 EV's in speed allow you to beat all other standard Gliscors so you can sub or hit them with Ice Fang before them. Now with this in place you will be more reliant on your teammates to toxic opposing Pokemon. I know that you said you didn't want to, but I highly suggest running Toxic Spikes on Forretress over Earthquake.

Hello there

Really nice team you got here but there are some problems. Offensive Rain.Teams seem like they would have an easy time against your team because there will be strong Water, Flying (Hurricane), and Electric attacks flying around. Also the occasional team will utilize something like Toxicroak to get past Blissey and what not. I suggest you add a more solid rain check over your Empoleon. Empoleon is good and all but it is let down without any reliable recovery and thus could hurt as it won't last into late game. Anyway Gastrodon is probaly the best pokemon to replace.

Gastrodon (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Toxic
- Recover
With Gastrodon here you have an easier time against Rain teams and you get a special wall with reliable recovery besides Blissey. Everything is pretty standard here so no need to explain.

I would also suggest using Volt Switch over Earthquake on Forretress. Earthquake won't really help against Magnezone anyway while you can just Volt Switch out of it while it trys to switch in. This also can help you keep momentum which is still important for stall teams.

Overall nice stall team you got here and I hope this rate helped

Reuniclus seems rather troublesome because your only bet is Gengar, who is OHKOed by Psychic. If you can get Gengar in safely against Reuniclus, you can force him out, but if Reuniclus predicts the Gengar switch in and it Psychics, Gengar is OHKOed and you don't stand a chance. All of your other team members are quite useless against Reuniclus because they can't do any real damage to it so it can just set up with Calm Mind and Recover, and sweep your team clean.
Sun teams are rather troublesome as well because you nothing to take on something like Quiver Dance Volcarona with Morning Sun or Choice Band Darmanitan / Victini. Regarding the former, it can set up on Blissey while you try to take it down, and Morning Sun off the damage once it gets low on health. It usually has three Quiver Dance up by then, and that is just enough to OHKO Blissey with Fire Blast in the sun. Regarding Choice Band Darmanitan / Victini, it can just be send out against Blissey or Forretress, and Flare Blitz / V-Create to deal a ton of damage to anything. Gliscor is OHKOed in the sun, and Hippowdon can't exactly safely switch in because it is 2HKOed by both.
Finally, Swords Dance + Taunt Gliscor can harm your team because not much on your team can harm it after being Taunted while also being able to take boosted Earthquakes / Ice Fangs.

Now, as kd24 pointed out, Hippowdon is harming your team more than it is helping your team, so replacing it seems like the best option. To replace it, I recommend that you try a slightly modified Mew. With Taunt and Recover, it can outstall Reuniclus quite effectively as it resists both Psychic and Focus Blast. While doing this, it can wear down Reuniclus down with Seismic Toss while forcing it to attack with Taunt, leaving it unable to attack. When carrying Ice Beam as the last move, Mew can take Gliscor's attacks pretty comfortably (and even lure it in) and OHKO it back.
This leaves your sun issue. To deal with this, using Heatran > Empoleon seems like a good solution. It can still do most of the things Empoleon used to do, namely walling Latios and other special attackers, setting up Stealth Rock (now that you don't carry Hippowdon anymore), and phazing. Added to that, Heatran is also immune to Fire-type attacks which means it can wall pretty much all sun sweepers easily. It also 4x resists Bug which lets it wall Volcarona even easier. However, sun teams often carry Dugtrio, so I recommend that you use Shed Shell as its item instead of the standard Leftovers. The exact sets are:

151.png
Mew @ Leftovers | Synchronize
Bold | 252 HP / 216 Def / 40 Spe
Taunt / Recover / Seismic Toss / Ice Beam

485.png
Heatran @ Shed Shell | Flash Fire
Calm | 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Lava Plume / Stealth Rock / Toxic / Roar

Good luck!

Thanks for the rates, guys!

Yeah Hippowdon is pretty meh. I'll take on Tomahawk9's Heatran suggestion, although I'll miss Empoleon.

Mew is interesting, I'll try him out after I'm done with kd24's Milotic set.
