Hello, Smogon denizens! Today I decided to present a Monotype tema around the Fire type. This team is not a standard based team, but based around a team I fought and that impressed me. That team had all the Drought setters allowed in the format to impose a constant state of sunlight in the field so as to boost Fire type moves and spam Solar Beam against threats. I tried to take on that idea. Suggestions are welcome.
Torkoal @ Assault Vest
Ability: Drought
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpA
Quiet Nature
- Facade
- Rapid Spin
- Solar Beam
- Lava Plume
Torkoal is the first Drought setter. I know that the standard Torkoal uses Leftovers to gain access to Stealth Rock but I prefer this version since it has more durability thanks to Assault Vest. Rapid Spin gives it utility value against entry hazards, Solar Beam takes advantage of the sunlight to deal with Ground- , Rock-, Water-types and Lava Plume is a stab augmented by the sun and has a nice burn chance.
Ninetales @ Assault Vest
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Psyshock
- Solar Beam
- Fire Blast
Ninetales is the second Drought setter. Its moves are the standard option. Nasty Plot is a good set up move, Psyshock takes advantage of its Special Attack boost and stats, Solar Beam takes care of Ground-, Rock- and Water-types adn Fire Blast is the sunlight boosted stab attack.
Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Solar Power
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Roost
- Solar Beam
- Air Slash
- Flare Blitz
Charizard, thanks to its Mega Evolution is the final Drought setter. Roost is a good recovery option and Solar Beam is a counter against the Rock-types that make life difficult for it. Air Slash is a stab with a flinching chance and Flare Blitz is a sun boosted, stab attack.
Darmanitan @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Rock Slide
- Flare Blitz
Darmanitan is a personal favourite. I like it because of the Sheer Force boosted Flare Blitz that is always a nice surprise. The sunlight boost its damage even further. Choice Scarf helps deal with its terrible speed and the rest of its moves are coverage options. U-turn allows a quick escape and damages Dark-, Grass- and Psychic-types. Superpower deals with Normal- and Rock-types and Rock Slide is a good answer to Flying-types.
Volcarona @ Leftovers
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 HP / 204 Def / 52 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Roost
- Quiver Dance
- Fiery Dance
- Bug Buzz
Volcarona like Charizard is susceptible to Stealth Rock so it needs Roost to recover from it. Quiver Dance is an excellent set up and after some of them, Volcarona is very difficult to get rid of. Fiery Dance raises its speed and in the sunlight it deals even more damage. Bug Buzz is a Bug-type stab.
Volcanion @ Assault Vest
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sludge Bomb
- Earth Power
- Steam Eruption
- Fire Blast
Volcanion is here to deal with Water-type moves. Water Absorb nullifies them and Sludge Bomb is a nice follow up with a chance to poison them. Earth Power is a good coverage option and Steam Eruption and Fire Blast are good stabs.
