Hey guys this is the first team I've posted anywhere and recently made this account. Let me know what I can do to improve and let me know how I did, sorry if I missed anything in advance. Enjoy!!
Before we begin I would like to give some beackground on myself. I recently made a Smogon account but have always used this site. I have been battling competitively since Black and White 1 came out. I have made my own teams, but wasn't amazing at it. However I used Smogon to help and that got me where I needed to be. You can consider me a "veteran" (even though I'm not) to competitive battle because I've been doing it for a few years. So I am by no means a Newbie but still I like to seek help and critique for my teams.
So I wanted to make an OU Rain team cause rain last gen (5th gen) was so amazingly good. So I decided to throw together a few random Pokemon first to see how it would work out. I modified this team and tested it on PS. Remember this team isn't final.
Tornadus (Incarnate form)
Item - Life Orb
Ability - Prankster
Nature - Naive
Evs - 56 attack; 200 Sp Attack; 252Speed
Moves
Hurricane - STAB, 100% accuracy in rain, and chance to hit through protect in rain
Superpower - No one sees this coming Tornadus (along with the other genies) are very capable mixed attackers, and can surprise opponents very well
Rain Dance - Prankster + Hurricane + Rain dance is an amazing combo on Tornadus
Hidden power ice (debating Heat wave for when rain ends) - coverage
- This guys is one of my favorites and was the first pokemon I had in mind for this team (basically he's sticking around). He is a potent threat in rain and just great all around, he is a great mixed (mostly special attacking) sweeper. However with Tornadus comes great responsibility (my creative way of saying I need defog or rapid spin.)
Latias
item - leftovers
Ability - levitate
Nature - bold
Evs - 252 HP; 128 Defense (allows me to live Pursuit from TTar on switchout); 120 SpDefense
Moves
Defog - Needed to get rid of SR and other hazards
Rain Dance - kinda needed for my Rain team (Debating Protect for Wish/ or even Refresh/ Toxic)
Wish - over roost to wish pass into other pokemon
Dragon Pulse - Damage
- Latias my dear where to begin. She is part of the defensive core, resists many types of attacks, and is an overall great wall. She can wish pass out into other members and is what I like to think of as the glue holding the team together
Politoed
Item - damp rock
Ability - Drizzle
Nature - Calm
Evs - 252 HP/ SpDefense; 4 SpAttack
Moves
Scald - to burn certain threats and STAB + Rain makes this a powerful move
Ice Beam - For Lando and other dragons who think they're hot stuff
Toxic - To wear down and status pokemon
Perish Song - for baton pass teams and Pokemon that like to Sub (I'm looking at you Klefei)
- Easily one of my favorite Pokemon, I loved him back in gen 2, he's so happy and cool looking but that's beside the point. Politoed, where would we be without your hidden ability. Ever since gen 5 your new ability changed the meta. Other than that, I put damp rock on poli to make rain last longer and I have wish on Latias in case I need some HP. He is part of my defensive core specializing in Special Defense.
Manaphy
Item - life orb
Ability - Hydration
Nature - Timid
Evs - 252 SpAttack/ Speed; 4 SPdefense
Moves
Tail Glow - Adds 2.5X SpA. With base 100 SpA already. This is too powerful
Surf - STAB + Rain + 1 Tail Glow Boost you do the math
Ice Beam - takes down flying types like defensive Zapdos, Landurus, Thundurus, etc.
Grass Knot - coverage
- This is not the face of mercy. One tail glow and this thing becomes a destructive force add that to a rain boost and this little guy is sweeping teams. But seriously this guy is super under-rated, he gets tail glow and with hydration can't be paralyzed, burned, put to sleep. He has base 100 stats across the board too so thats another plus. This little guy is my team's main special attacker and sweeper. So yeah Manaphy isn't so cute now is he.
(Mega) Gyarados
Item - Gyaradosite
Ability - Moxie
Nature - Adamant
Evs - 252 attack/speed 4 SpDefense
Moves
Dragon Dance - get up one of these in mega form and say bye to the opponent
Waterfall - powerful STAB and in rain even without a moxie or mega evo boost is powerful
Earthquake - powerful coverage
Stone Edge - again powerful coverage
- Mega Gyarados doesn't receive too many style points like Mega Lucario and Charizard X, but his Attack power is a force to be reckoned with. I put him on the team cause in the rain Mega Gyarados is a threat with his STAB Waterfall. He also seemed to work well with the other members on the team. Plus when he mega evolves he gains a Water/Dark so he can come in on a predicted Psychic type attack. Not really much here other than Mega Gyarados is my physical attacker, sweeper, and Mega Evolution.
Rotom Wash
item - leftovers
ability - Levitate
Nature - Bold
Evs - 252 HP/ Defense 4SpDefense
Moves
Hydro Pump - In the rain hurts like hell, oh and its STAB.
Volt Switch - STAB and allows me too get a good match up if I'm not happy with who Rotom is facing off against
Will-O-Wisp - Burn physical threats and to get residual damage
Pain Split - I prefer this over Rest because after you use or your chesto berry gets Knocked Off you're not waking up for 3 turns.
- Rotom Wash became even more overused this generation due to Talonflame. Talonflame counters a good majority of my team with Gale Wings Brave Bird. So this is my solution to that along with being part of the three fold defensive core along with Politoed and Latias. This physical defender is great at what he does and can take hits like a champ.
Weaknesses of the team overall
- Electric type pokemon overall are problematic for the team however, Latias can usually tank a few hits from them and retaliate. (Mega Manectric is the standout here)
- Tyranitar (scarf mostly) , if I don't burn him or get rid of him, he can become a problem with Stone Edge.
- Bulky Grass types.
- Talonflame, if I loose Rotom-W its GG. I don't have SR on this team and this guy with Gale Wings Brave Bird can run through my team like a train.
Of course not all teams are perfect.
I hope you all enjoyed my team. Feel free to critique it and add suggestions. It means so much to me that you are reading this, and if you want to copy this team exactly, there is no greater compliment for me! Thanks again guys.
