Heh this is my only second RMT from years back
After reading Banedon's team "Do you fear Azelf?" quiver passing to azelf
http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3455947
I decided to give this strategy a shot with different pokes..and man was I completely happy with the results!! we talked about it before and thought it was just a failed strategy, but after practice i was proved completely wrong. It is a very simple, easy, and straightfoward strategy. I peaked to #10 but right when i got that high i ran into a huge series of bad hax and which dropped me to about 40..sigh go figure
Naming process: lol i couldnt think of any name so I just chose my fav animes full metal alchemist, gurren laggan, and Gundam
The Team
Deosys-D (Alphonse Elric)
Set:SuidiceTrickSpiker
Deoxys-D @ choice scarf
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/ 160 Def/ 96 Spe
Nature: Jolly (-SpAtk/+Spe)
-Trick
-Thunderwave
-Stealth Rock
-Spike
I'm surprised trick Deoxys-D isnt used as much..it rips the crap out of people who switch in any mew and xatu. I always lead with it unless it is an escavilier or heracross says so but other than them everyone suspects it to be a suicide spiker and instead get a suprise of trick..Thunderwave is really just a filler and a pretty good insurance in case i trick something that can actually utilize choice scarf. I believe I can make a better change their though. The EVs allows Deoxys-D to outspeed jolyl base 130s (crobat, aero, jolteon)
Name: Alphonse was never really the true hero of full metal alchemist but he was defintely the most supporting character on the show..with a few layer of spikes and Stealth rock and also because of his beastly armor he was able to take hits that Edward couldn't.
Darminatin (Gurren Laggan)
Set: Choice Scarf
Darminitan @ Choice scarf
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP/ 252 Atk/ 252 Spe
Nature: Adamant (+Atk/ -SpAtk)
-Flarebltiz
-Superpower
-Rock slide
-U-turn
Revenge Killer and insurance nothing much to really say..it does provide with somewhat good synergy so some poke dont get burned with Will-O-wisp and a good counter to sableye..also the only bug resist on my team but it gets only one switch in on heracross and escavilier megahorn
Name: Look at its face!! it's the same as Gurren Lagann's! lol its like nintendo watched Gurren Lagann and said we are going to make a pokemon with the same face!! But it performs just like Gurren Lagann too..It comes in during times of desperation and forgets strategy as it just Sheer Forces its way to victory!!
Venomoth (Raiser Stone)
Set:QuiverPasserm g
Venomoth @ leftovers
Ability: Sheild Dust
EVs: 252 HP/ 6 SpAtk/252 Spe
Nature: Timid (-Atk/+Spe)
-Bug Buzz
-Sleep Powder
-Baton Pass
-Quiver Dance
The main show!! and the reason behind my success with this team
Quiver passing is an underrated strategy in this metagame..And one of the scariest...I was surprised by Venomoth's 252 HP bulk...after 1 quiver dance its bulky enough to get a second dance in...and 2 dances is enough to sweep an entire team with azelf or omastar..the biggest downside since it is a baton passer is HAX!! Sleep powder's 75% chance to hit is more like 75% chance to miss..Everytime I use this move it is the biggest gamble for my team..It can either choose whether I win or lose which is very unfortunate...I chose sheild dust over Tinted lens specifically to avoid hax which i recieved alot from thunderbolt and ice beam
Name: Raiser system was able to boost Gundam 00's ability to extroardinary levels, and the same with the philosopher's stone and alchemist..Venomoth is the power boost that allows Azelf (Edward Elric) and Omastar (Gundam) do so well...hence the name Raiser System + Philosopher's stone
Azelf (Edward Elric)
set: Special Sweeper
Azelf @ Lum Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpAtk/4 Def/252 Spe
Nature: Modest (+SpAtk/-Atk)
-Psyshock
-Flamethrower
-Grassknot
-Sub
Underrated sweeeper for sure!! 125 offensive stats 115 Spe, great coverage moves, and even great support options and a chance to get back special walls chansey and snorlax...why isnt this used as much?! This set utilizes great coverage with psychic, fire, and grass..hitting the majority of top UU threats for supereffective or just really hard with neutral attack..Thunderbolt can be used over grass knot but idk if it would be better? those three moves cant hit harder enough to only a small amount of pokes, empoleon, houndoom, victini, spiritomb..and probably some others that arent used as much to be considered a major threat..Sub and lum berry is there to avoid sucker punch and status. I tried LO but i ended up killing myself faster than the opponent could, since now Sand and Hail are common battle conditions running LO was a bad idea...
Name: Edward Elric is an alchemist with a wide variety of attacks and is also quick and nimble..He also benifits from support of his younger brother Deoxys-D(Alphonse Elric), spikes and SR and sometimes the lucky parahax (luck also is a factor in the anime as well) I liked to think the relationship between Deoxys-D and Azelf is similar to the relatinship to Al and Ed...Also I'd like to think that Azelf is short tempered when someone mocks him about his height haha
Omastar (Gundam)
Set:Shell Smash Sweeper
Omastar @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 SpAtk/4 Def/ 252 Spe
Nature: Modest(+SpAtk/-Atk)
-Hydro Pump
-Ice beam
-Earth Power
-Shell Smash
The second Special Sweeper of my team..It doesnt need a quiver dance boost as much as azelf though, making it more of a stand alone sweeper..This metagame is surprisingly Omastar weak and surprsingly sweeps more than azelf..It gets more opportunity to set up thanks to stoutland and darminitan...but it usually gets only 1 shot at sweeping..I chooose Earth Power because I find Empoleon to be more of a threat than milotic or blastoise..and since quagsire(when it is used) have the ability unaware, hydro pump is a OHKO..Earthpower is also nice if I dont wanna risk Hydro Pump miss and just hit a steel with the same base power move..The Choice between Modest and Timid has been up in there with me..Modest is neccessary to OHKO or 2HKO certain pokes while Timid is neccessary to outspeed jolly base 100 choice scarfers..When it recieves the boost the modest nature is defintely a blessing though..with only 1 it can still be a very powerful threat
Name: Its not the best representation of a gundam but it does have a few qualities. It has a strong laser beam (hydro pump) It has a system that boost its power and speed but at loss of something like power or wide open for an attack, trans-am (Shell Smash). and gundams usually have a wide variety of attacks like smaller lasers or swords (Ice beam, Earth power) If anything i would say its more like Strike Gundam.
Spiritomb (The Anti Spiral)
Set: Trapper
Spiritomb @ BlackGlasses
Ability: pressure
EVs: 252 HP/ 252 Atk/ 4 def
Nature: Adamant(+Atk/-SpAtk)
-Pursuit
-Sucker punch
-Shadow sneak
-Will-O-Wisp
The trapper and "Trickster" of my team..I use it to trap bulky psychics, alakazam, and Stoutland...It also does a good job hurting snorlax for alot of damage since ive been seeing alot of Restsleeptalk Whirlwind sets..It does enough damage that if it switches in again isnt going to wall my team...It is also good against offensive strategies that rely only choice scarfers..with pursuit it does good damage for any sweeper to come back in and eat spikes and SR to die...as a spinblocker it doesnt do its job well..Since I am putting pressure on a team, it gets probably to block once or twice, it cant take repeated hits from blastoise nor donphan..but if spikes and SR are on the field they wont have many repeated opportunities to switch in...Faking Choice band is the nicer bonus..if an opponent does not see leftovers the immediately believe choice band..Since spiritomb has little usage in this current metagame, its not hard to bluff a choice band..
Name: The Anti Spirals main goal is to lead all spiral races into despair and destory them by that. Spiritomb sort of mimics that goal by putting opponents in a check mate position or bluffing a choice band now having their pokes dead because they predicted wrong. Or have their rapid spin blocked. Also the disorted image and coloring is very similar the anti-spiral's gunman..
Team Counters
- Alakazam is scary if my spiritomb or Darminitan is gone, because it can sweep my whole team with relative ease..the focus sash set is particularly scary because it stops my sweep if i get a boost...
- I dont have any powerful water resist..so azumaril can threaten my team with CB waterfalls..and a good revenge killer if Azelf isnt behind a sub with CB aqua jet..It also gets alot of opportunity to set for a sub focus punch which can end my team..
- I ran into a sub SD colbian which set my team with too much ease..It set up on my spiritomb and it all went down hill from there. most of the time when i run into one i already have momentum on my side, but Darminitan or Deoxys-D is usually my best bet against it
-Not many bug resists on my team..Escavilier's choice band threatens to KO my entire team..it doesnt sweep through my team but it opens holes for the opponent to gain the momentum on their side
-the rest chesto set is particular annoying...even if i burn with spiritomb Its just gonna rest and rince and repeat...When i see kingdra in Team preview and since alot are paired with escavlier, I usually try to save Deoxs-D to Trick Kingdra.
- The restsleeptalk phazer set is really annoying and tough to get around..Since it can take a +2 Psyshock, +2 and phaze out then rest, I have to make sure this thing takes risidual damage so i can get the KO on it..The curse set isn't as bad becasue it needs a couple boosts before it becomes scary
- SD weavile sweeps my team..since it outspeeds my whole team
- Stops azelf's sweep temporarily, so same as snorlax...but thankfully it doesnt have a reliable recovery move and not as good a sleeptalker and snorlax...
-Thanks to priority encore and stun spore, it can either stop my sweep or just paralyze my team so its easy for other pokes to pick me off one by one or just stall me with sub seed...
/
- those two are in place there for Rain and Sunny teams..Since they involve faster and stronger pokes ..they put the pressure on me
