ORAS OU Team HyperOffensive (Mega Pinsir)

Team HyperOffensive (Mega Pinsir)

While I was checking the list of Megas on showdown, I found that Mega Pinsir was actually BL, and that surprised me. Seeing that, I wanted to give Mega Pinsir a chance because people usually say that it is inferior to Scizor and Heracross or "not that good". After an hour or so, I finally built a pretty decent team around Mega Pinsir and it works quite well, and I wanted other people's opinion on the team. If you took your time reading until this part, I hope you can also rate my team :)

======================================================================

Main Sweeper - Mega Pinsir
250px-127Pinsir.png

Wolverine (Pinsir-Mega) @ Pinsirite
Ability: Aerilate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Return
- Earthquake
- Quick Attack
- Swords Dance

So this is the bread and butter of the whole team. If you look at the stats, Mega Pinsir is a powerful beast and a force to be reckoned with. A whopping 155 attack plus Aerilate can prove to be very devastating. Hyper Cutter is preffered as the pre-mega ability because it does stop intimidates from limiting Pinsir's potential. Return is the way to go as there are no side effects to it. Earthquake helps decimate pokemon who resists flying like Tyranitar, Heatran, Excadrill and Electric types. Quick Attack acts as a fast and strong priority move boosted by Aerilate. Setting up is important because Pinsir OHKOs everything that does not resist its moves after a Swords Dance. Speed>Damage = Jolly>Adamant.

Physical Scarf - Staraptor
250px-398Staraptor.png

Nova (Staraptor) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Reckless
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Double-Edge
- Close Combat
- U-turn

Staraptor was the immediate choice for a Choice Scarfer. Using the usual set, Staraptor with Reckless and Scarf equals a powerful hard hitter. With max investments in attack and speed plus Adamant, this creates a fast powerful revenge killer. Staraptor already has a decent base speed, so it should outspeed other Scarfers with Scarf itself. Brave Bird is a must have STAB Reckless boosted move as well as Double-Edge. Close Combat covers those Steel & Rock types which resist both Staraptor's STABs. U-Turn creates momentum and deals extra damage. Only downside is having similiar weaknesses to Ice, Electric, Rock with Mega Pinsir.

Coverage Sweeper - Electivire
250px-466Electivire.png

Adapter (Electivire) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Motor Drive
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Thunder Punch
- Ice Punch
- Fire Punch
- Earthquake

Electivire is really underrated, I can't believe this beast is lurking in the depths of NU. Since my team is ultimately weak to Electric, I chose Electivire as my Electric immunity and a coverage sweeper. The plan here is to switch in Electivire into an Electric move causing Motor Drive to activate and boosting Electivire's speed. Electivire does have many coverage moves, most importantly Thunder Punch and Ice Punch, an alternative BoltBeam combo. Fire Punch and Earthquake is just for more coverage making use of Expert Belt. After a Motor Drive boost, the max investment in attack, speed and an Adamant nature does help sweep. I would like your opinion on whether to have Power-Up Punch, if so, what move should I replace?

Special Attacker - Mismagius
250px-429Mismagius.png

Casper (Mismagius) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Dazzling Gleam
- Taunt
- Destiny Bond

Oh no its a ghost! I know I'm bringing some lower tier pokemon, but honestly some of these pokemon are power. Mismagius is the usual lead for the team, as it carries Taunt for those damn Stealth Rockers. With a decent base speed, it does outspeed some pokemon. The Life Orb maximizes damage as well as not locking itself into a move. Shadow Ball, the main STAB move hurts pokemon that does not resist it quite hard, while Dazzling Gleam is just a move for coverage and it also hits those Dark, Fighting, Dragon types hard. Even so, Mismagius does not have the highest of special attack. But what it does have is Destiny Bond for the slow yet destructive threats. That Ground and Normal immunity are also great to have.

Defensive Tank Support - Aggron
250px-306Aggron.png

Ironin (Aggron) @ Leftovers
Ability: Heavy Metal
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Heavy Slam
- Thunder Wave
- Stealth Rock

My team is still severely weak to Ice, Rock and lacking a defensive pokemon. Aggron is considered to be one of the most defensive pokemon while it also resists Rock and Ice 4x. If I could choose Mega Aggron, I would but I can't. With max investment in bulk and its typing, it can tank physical hits so well, it will even make Deoxys-Defense ashamed (as long as it isn't 4x effective). When attacking, Heavy Slam is the best way to go as I had chosen Heavy Metal as its ability. Earthquake is only needed when against pokemon that resists Heavy Slam. Thunder Wave is good for slowing down and testing for hax on the opposing pokemon. Instead of going for Thunder Wave, Aggron could go for a cheeky Stealth Rock to chip away the opposing team. The immunities this team have helps with forcing the opponent to switch alot, chipping health from time to time.

Specially Defensive Tank Support - Tentacruel
250px-073Tentacruel.png

Colossal (Tentacruel) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Acid Spray
- Scald
- Knock Off
- Rapid Spin

Even though this is another Electric weakness for the team, it can take a special hit very well thanks to its natural special bulk and Assault Vest. It would take 4 Volt Switches from a Modest 252 SpA Rotom-Wash before dying.

252+ SpA Rotom-W Volt Switch vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Tentacruel: 92-110 (25.3 - 30.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

With the ability to tank as much as it wants, just one Acid Spray is enough scare the hell out of the opposing enemy. Not much investment in SpA is needed as Acid Spray is there to save the day. Scald is really useful with that 30% burn chance as well as being a powerful STAB move. Knock Off can prove to be pretty useful for getting rid of important held items like eviolite and such. Rapid Spin is also important as my team is really weak to those cheeky rocks on the field. Liquid Ooze helps alot against those pesky Leech Seeds because it does hurt them instead of healing them.

This whole team is quite offensive based in my opinion. With most of the pokemon being offensive threats, this team uses momentum and all out attacking to work. Its just like a chess game or a football match, "Offense is the best defense". I hope you can give me your opinions and suggestions of the team. Please help me by rating this team and improving it. Also, feel free to use this team and share your experience here on this thread. Have a great day :)

you are sooooo close to having a Birdspam core.

Pinsir + Starraptor + Tflame = BirdSpam. I would replace mismagius, as it rlly doesnt have a place in OU.

Talonflame. Since the birds have similar checks, if you wear down that pokemon, you kinda win with the reamining birds.

I don't really have much time to rate, but I'll point out some obvious things. I'd recommend swapping out mismagius for gengar. Literally everything that your mismagius does gengar can do better. It's faster, helps deal with fairies, and hits harder. It really outclasses mismagius. Also, I recommend replacing electivire. Sure, it's immune to electric types, but it's very slow and takes loads of damage from earthquakes (choice scarf landorus t seems like a huge problem for your team, and electivire doesn't exactly help it) I'd personally replace it with either a landorus t of your own if you still want the electric immunity, or raikou if you'd like to keep electric type coverage. Landorus could be a nice pivot with u turn, or you could use raikou, which is generally better than electivire due to its higher speed. Also, personally I prefer quite choice band on staraptor over scarf, but that's just really my opinion.
