Team in need of rates please! Much appreciated!!!

Ok so my team is mostly an offensive one. I'm running a few underrated sets that people don't really expect in competitive play. This is my first post so bear with me.

I started this team with a Bulky Dragon Dance Gyarados set in mind.

130.png

Gyarados @Leftovers with Intimidate
Adamant 176 hp / 128 atk / 204 spe
Dragon Dance
Waterfall
Taunt
Stone Edge

This set allows it to take more hits and set up a little safer with the extra bulk it carries. Gyarados can set up on numerous offensive threats and typically force switches to get in some boosts and also allows him to set up on pokemon that would normally give him trouble such as Skarmory and Ferrothorn and most likely force a switch. Gyarados can also come in numerous times and sponge a hit or two if need be with the added bulk. With this setup Gyarados has a nice blend of power and survivability. however if i was going to be switching him out and in often for potential sweeps i was going to need rapid spin support and pokemon that could deal with all of the potential counters to a bulky set such as bulky water types bulky grass types and bulky pokemon in general like Porygon2 and a pokemon who could get Stealth rocks up rather quickly and efficiently at the start of a match wouldn't be so bad either. All of these pokemon would play a vital role in helping my Gyarados sweep.

As far as Spinners i wanted something fast and something that could hit like a truck all in one. For this i found Starmie met my needs perfectly.

121.png

Starmie @Life Orb with Natural Cure
Timid 252 spa / 4 spd / 252 spe
Hydro Pump
Thunderbolt
Ice Beam
Rapid Spin

This is your basic Starmie setup that i don't think needs much explaining. you have Hydro Pump for a powerful STAB move along with BoltBeam coverage. Life orb to give it a little extra kick when attacking and can often score some KOs, especially with Stealth Rock damage and can also assist as far as dealing with bulky water types and dragon types as well.

As far as defensive prowess, dealing with bulky water types and having an excellent wall i decided Ferrothorn was the way to go.

628.png

Ferrothorn @Leftovers with Iron Barbs
Relaxed 0 Spe IVs 252 hp / 88 def / 168 spd
Spikes
Leech Seed
Protect
Gyro Ball

This is a pretty basic Ferrothorn setup here. Not much to explain. The evs and nature give him some pretty balanced defenses so that he can some a ton of hits a do whatever he wants in return. just has to be wary of them fire types is all...

Then as for dealing with bulky grass types and hitting most anything else like a truck while being able to take a few hits of his own i turned to Heatran.

490.png

Heatran @Air Balloon with Flash Fire
Timid 252 spa / 4 spd / 252 spe
Fire Blast
Earth Power
Hidden Power (Ice)
Toxic

Heatran can take on opposing Heatran and ohko Gliscor and Landorus as well as Dragon Types. Toxic gives Heatran a way of dealing with pokemon that would normally wall Heatran till kingdom come such as the ever present pink blobs.

As far as taking down generally bulky pokemon that gyarados would normally struggle to get past i decided to go with the bulky fighting type Conkeldurr.

562.png

Conkeldurr @Flame Orb with Guts
Adamant 224 hp / 252 atk / 32 spd
Drain Punch
Mach Punch
Payback
Facade

Bulk Up and Choice Band Conkeldurrs have to hope they can luckily switch into a status inducing move or the opponent accidentally status them while still being susceptible to sleep inducing moves. However this set eliminates all that hassle from the get-go. Drain Punch is Conkeldurr's obligatory STAB move of choice as it increases his longevity and deals a lot of damage with a Guts boost. Mach Punch can reliably revenge kill while Payback deals with opposing ghost and psychic types. Facade is the most powerful move on this set and can easily surprise defensive pokemon such as Reuniclus and Gliscor that would otherwise wall this set completely.

Last but not least i decided i would turn to the best blank slate pokemon has to offer for my fast, effective lead pokemon, Mew.

151.png

Mew @Lum Berry with Synchronize
Jolly 252 hp / 4 def / 252 spe
Stealth Rock
Taunt
U-Turn
Fake Out

This set aims to maximize overall bulk and speed to get Stealth Rock out as quick as possible. Taunt can frustrate opposing leads trying to set up Stealth Rock and Fake Out can break opponents sashes and U-Turn to keep up the momentum of the battle. Mew can also absorb a status hit if need be and return the favor with synchronize while healing off its own status problem with Lum Berry.

This is my OU team and any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

You've got yourself a nice balanced team here dude :)

So the first thing that strikes me is the weakness to Electric-type pokemon, specifically in the OU environment, Rotom-W and Thundurus-T. Rotom-W, for instance, as very little trouble switching in against numerous members of your team, including Gyarados, Starmie even Heatran(only fearing a Toxic). Your only true switch-in is Ferrothorn, who more often than not, will have to take a Volt-Switch and then be met with something like Terrakion or Breloom. Your in a similar boat with Thundurus-T, who's choiced sets spam Volt-Switch just like Rotom-W, but in Thundurus-T's case he can also sweep you with its Agility sets(if Ferrothorn is weakened) and Nasty Plot sets(if Starmie is gone). A more defensive approach to this problem is to replace Ferrothorn with Gastrodon. The set I recommend is:

423.png

Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Trait: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Def
Sassy Nature
- Ice Beam
- Earthquake
- Toxic
- Recover

Gastrodon totally covers the troublesome Electric types. It can switch into Rotom-W(almost) care free, fearing only a meager Will-o-Wisp or the rare Hidden Power Grass. It is also your best bet for a Thundurus-T counter(beware of rare Grass Knot variants). With this change you do however lose your spike support and your second Steel-type pokemon. While the spike support will be missed, without a Ghost-type spinblocker your hazards are in danger from Spinners. The Steel-type lose is a bigger concern as the multitude of powerful OU dragons can overwhelm many teams. For this I suggest running a Choice Scarf Heatran. The set I recommend is:

485.png

Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Dragon Pulse

With this change you do not lose the synergy Heatran brought to your team, and you can now more adequately deal with Dragons. While Heatran does not make the speediest Choice Scarfer, it proves invaluable due to its numerous resistances and immunites. Heatran can revenge any Dragon stuck in Outrage and serves as a premier check to the powerful GeneSun teams. Heatran outspeeds Dugtrio is it's Choice Scarf equipped and will 2HKO on the switch(they always have Focus Sash :/ )

I also want to recommend running Bulk Up over Facade on Conkeldurr, as it provides your team with another win condition. BU Conk also sets up on many premier DD gyara checks such as bulky Jellicent.

My final suggestion is running Explosion over Fake Out, and Normal Gem over Lum Berry on Mew. Fake Out tends to not be worth it. It was worth it on 'mons like DPP Lead Infernape because it could use it to break the (super common) Sashs of other leads and threaten to KO them afterwards. Nowadays fewer leads than ever run Focus Sash(most people don't even have 'leads') and your Mew really doesn't threaten those 'mons who do. Also Explosion with Normal Gem gives your Mew the power to stop speedy sweepers who think they can set up on it(think Terrakion, Keldeo etc)

Good Luck!

Ok so i implemented the changes suggested by Joeyboy which worked out awesomely. But now i have trouble dealing with with pokemon such as Gliscor, Landorus (both Therian and Incarnate forms), and Tornadus - T under rain. Any suggestions?

Hi,
I've tried to fix this team to resolve landorus and tornadus problem! First you can replace your gastrodont with rotom-w and use Dragon Dance/ Substitute/ Waterfall/ Bounce on Gyaradoss (You can beat sheerforce landorus or enter on earthquake). To resolve the "electric" problem i suggest Donphan>Starmie (you can also use ice shard to kill Tornadus or Landorus). Last use this evs spread on Conkeldurr: EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 SDef

479-wash.png

Rotom-W @ Leftovers Trait: Levitate
EVs: 192 HP / 56 SAtk / 252 SDef / 8 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split

This spread is very nice, 192 HP give you a leftovers point. You can resist vs Hurricane or Focus Blast (Landorus) and kill them!

232.png

Donphan (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Atk / 176 Def
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Stone Edge

I'm very undecided about it but it works not very bad. Stone Edge can be replaced with anything you want.

I was going to suggest something very similar to what PentaWorst said. Rotom-W is amazing in this meta, checking Rain in general and Tornadus - T in particular. However, without Starmie, your team will suffer from a general lack of speed, that can be extremely dangerous since faster threats can easily exploit that after their check(s) is gone. To fix this, I suggest the following:
  1. Move Stealth Rock from Mew to Heatran. Toxic and HP Ice are mostly redundant, so you can easily give up the former and use Heatran as your SR setter of choice. An alternative is to move it to Donphan, that works too.
  2. Remove Mew and add a Choice Scarf Latios. Latios has a better typing than Mew, granting key resistances to Grass, Water and Electric that your team likes a lot, while it's already capable to handle Dragon and Ice attacks via Heatran / Gyarados / your bulky poke of choice between Ferro, Gastrodon or Rotom. Also, thanks to its ability, it adds more protection from strong Ground attacks that can be troublesome, and its immunity to (T)Spikes is handy too. Blazing speed allows you to revenge basically any unboosted, non-Clorophyll-user out there, and even Modest Venusaur is taken down with ease. This set of features will surely add protection from those Gliscors and Landoruses that annoy you right now, as well as granting general revenge killing potential. Of course, you lose your anti-lead, however Rocks and hazards aren't really a problem since Starmie / Donphan can spin them away later, and Fake Out / Explosion are only situationally useful. Latios has much more general utility than that, thus being the preferred choice in this situation.

    381.png

Latios @ Choice Scarf | Levitate
    Timid | 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
    - Draco Meteor
    - Hidden Power Fire
    - Surf / Psyshock
    - Trick

Hope it helped! Good luck with your team.
