Team * Insert Creative Name Here*

My old team really wasn't working for me anymore, so I decided to make a new one. I like this one much more, though one roster spot hasn't been finalized and I'm still trying to find something that works there.

I wanted to build a team with Gallade and Shaymin, so those two were automatically in.

I like Kingdra, and he can switch in on Fire attacks aimed at Shaymin.

I wanted a resistance to Kingdra's weakness, so I added Jirachi.

My team needed a revenge killer, so I added a Choice Scarf Starmie.

I thought my team needed a ground immunity and another physical attacker, so Dragonite was in.

Dragonite didn't pull his own weight and I was having problems with stall (it was just my mindset at the time, I realize now), so I added a MixApe.

In-depth analysis:

Gallade___Psycho_Cut_by_sunstarter.png

Gallade @ Lum Berry
Adamant
Steadfast
252 Atk, 244 HP, 12 Spe
-Close Combat
-Ice Punch
-Shadow Sneak
-Swords Dance
Anti-lead Gallade. This set does extremely well as an anti-lead, only really failing against Explosions and having a Scarf Tricked onto it. Most everything else falls to a Close Combat or Ice Punch followed by Shadow Sneak if they carried a sash. Bulkier leads usually let me set up a few Swords Dances and run through 2-3 opposing Pokemon. Lum Berry allows me to beat status leads like Roserade, bring Smeargle down to its sash, and erase DynamicPunch's confusion from Machamp. I found this on an RMT a few months ago, but have been unable to find that and so can't give whoever made this set credit. If you would like it, please just say so.

How I deal with common leads:
Aerodactyl: Close Combat or Ice Punch, then Shadow Sneak.
Azelf: Ice Punch and Shadow Sneak usually manage to take it down.
Roserade: Ice Punch, Swords Dance if the Sleep Powder misses, and Shadow Sneak. My team doesn't like Toxic Spikes at all, so I want to keep them from being set up if possible.
Heatran: Most Heatran leads switch out to some sort of fighting resist, so I'll usually Swords Dance.
Tyranitar: Swords Dance if I'm feeling like letting it get rocks up. Most of the time, they switch as TTar fears Close Combat.
Metagross: Usually Swords Dance and Close Combat. This is one of the few leads that can be problematic if it decides to attack right away. I also may switch to Starmie to take the MM and Hydro Pump for the 2HKO.
Celebi: Ice Punch and Shadow Sneak take it down.
Swampert: Swords Dance and Close Combat.
Hippowdon: Swords Dance and 2 Ice Punches kill it.
Starmie: Another one I don't like too much. I SD up and Shadow Sneak twice, as I am usually not 2HKO'd by Hydro Pump.
Dragonite: This one is my favorite. Ice Punch.
Machamp: Swords Dance then Close Combat.
Forretress: I <3 facing Forry leads, since a lot don't carry Explosion. SD up 3 times and proceed to sweep.

shaymin.png

Shaymin @ Life Orb
Natural Cure
Timid
252 SpA, 158 Spe, 100 HP
-Seed Flare
-Earth Power
-Hidden Power {Fire}
-Rest
Shaymin is a surprisingly powerful utility sweeper, capable of defeating even Blissey with a bit of luck on Seed Flare's Special Defense drops. Seed Flare is a ridiculously powerful attack that cripples just about anything not resistant or not named Blissey/Snorlax. Earth Power and HP Fire provide good coverage and a way to kill Scizor quickly, which is something no one else on my team can do. Natural Cure + Rest gives me a free full heal as long as I switch out next turn, and it allows me to stall Blissey out in order to obtain SpD drops.

flygon.jpg

Flygon @ Choice Scarf
Levitate
Adamant
252 Atk, 252 Spe, 4 HP
-Outrage
-Earthquake
-U-Turn
-ThunderPunch
Flygon serves as a revenge killer, scout, and can even sweep late-game with Outrage or Earthquake. He checks DD Gyarados basically just as well as my Starmie did, and isn't walled by Blissey. His Electric and Ground immunities buy him a lot of free switch-ins and make Jolteon not nearly as threatening.

starmie.jpg

Starmie @ Life Orb
Natural Cure
Timid
252 SpA, 252 Spe, 4 HP
-Hydro Pump
-Thunderbolt
-Ice Beam
-Recover
Starmie with a Life Orb hits very hard and has few counters. Scarfed Rotom-A can switch in on a Thunderbolt or Ice Beam, then fire off a Thunderbolt of their own, though they might use Shadow Ball if they've seen Flygon already. Jolteon can do the same, though switching in on a mispredicted Hydro Pump takes him out. Gengar can Shadow Ball, but Starmie laughs and outspeeds non-scarf Gengar, OHKOing them with Hydro Pump. Other Starmie might be able to win the speed tie, and Scarf Flygon can cause severe damage with U-Turn. Otherwise, Starmie does severe damage to everything not named Blissey/Snorlax.
machamp.png

Machamp @ Leftovers
No Guard
Adamant
252 Atk, 244 HP, 12 Spe
-Substitute
-Stone Edge
-Payback
-DynamicPunch
Sub/3 attacks Machamp is surprisingly anti-metagame. He can come in on a lot of walls, set up a sub, and proceed to wreck stuff. DynamicPunch puts a huge dent in just about everything except resistant Pokemon and Ghosts. Paypack and Stone Edge can hit all of them pretty hard, opening up more opportunities to wreak havoc with a base 100 STAB attack. The speed EVs are just enough to outspeed minimum investment Blissey and set up a sub as it tries to status me if her owner is feeling ballsy. Machamp hits incredibly hard and can weaken or straight-up OHKO a lot of threats. He also rips hail teams a new one, which is good as a well-played hail team is incredibly annoying. Machamp is also my only hope against Zapdos, so I prefer not letting him die early.

2.jpg

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Serene Grace
Timid
252 HP, 176 Spe, 80 SpA
-Substitute
-Calm Mind
-Flash Cannon
-Thunderbolt
SubCM Jirachi is an absolute beast if I can get it set up, and is the second special attacker on my team capable of defeating Blissey under the right circumstances. It can go toe to toe with CroCunes that lack Roar (i.e. most of them) and tank special attacks like little else. It also has the added bonus of being a great check to Breloom because of Substitute blocking Spore. This set is, unfortunately, walled by Swampert, but that's OK. Shaymin can deal with the mud fish easily enough.

Also, I just realized I have 3 Substitute users on my team. I must like that move a lot. I probably need a ground immunity, but I can't find anything I like enough to do it. I guess I could use a scarfed Rotom-W over Starmie, but then I lose Ice Beam and Grass Knot.

The spots I would be most willing to change are Machamp's and Starmie's, though I'll at least test every suggestion put out here.

Threat List (this is by no means complete):
Jolteon-- I have to rely on Starmie and Shaymin to kill it. Shaymin can't switch in to HP Ice and Starmie can't switch in to pretty much anything Jolteon carries, so I usually have to end up sacrificing someone if whoever I have out doesn't have a sub or Jirachi isn't set up. With Flygon, Jolteon becomes a complete nonentity in terms of threat level. Flygon switches in on a Thunderbolt and OHKOs.

Scizor-- I may have 2 Bullet Punch resists, but neither can do a really significant amount of damage to Scizor unless Kingdra is already set up or Starmie just came in to revenge something. and they switched out to Scizor. Shaymin can use HP Fire, but Heatran is a common switch-in to Shaymin, and I do NOT want to give it a Flash Fire boost.

Breloom-- All my teams have trouble with Breloom. The only things that can live through its Spore and attack are a set-up Machamp and Kingdra or a fairly healthy Jirachi. I can stall Spore out with Starmie and Shaymin's Natural Cure, but I don't like switching Starmie in because I fear a Seed Bomb.

Machamp: Machamp is annoying, but I outspeed the standard Smogon set with my own and can confuse it first. From there, I can kill it with another DynamicPunch or switch out to someone else.

Gliscor: He dies to Hydro Pump, Ice Punch, Ice Beam, and Waterfall to a lesser extent. Seed Flare also does quite a lot of damage. Overall, not much of a threat.

Vaporeon: Shaymin can Seed Flare and Starmie/Jirachi can Thunderbolt. Kingdra can substitute and DD up with a 4x resistance to Surf. She's annoying, but will eventually go down with minimal damage. Also, Tricking a Scarf onto Vaporeon was fun while it lasted :D

Celebi: Shaymin can use HP Fire and Celebi who lack it can't do anything significant back, but Heatran is often seen with Celebi and Shaymin does not want to give him a boost. Starmie can take out a weakened one with Ice Beam, but fears Grass Knot/Leaf Storm. If Gallade is still alive, he can Ice Punch and Shadow Sneak. Machamp can use Payback, but hates Thunder Wave. Flygon's U-Turn won't quite OHKO IIRC, but it will cripple Celebi for the switch-in. Also, Starmie can change attacks now, so Ice Beam is a viable option to use on support Celebi.

Gyarados: Jirachi and Starmie kill it with Thunderbolt. Starmie also outspeeds +1 Gyara and takes it out.

Dragonite: He walls Shaymin, but dies to Starmie, Gallade, and Machamp. Jirachi can come in on an Outrage and do a fair amount of damage with Flash Cannon.

Swampert: Shaymin OHKOs with Seed Flare, and Starmie 2HKOs 252 HP variants with Hydro Pump. Once Swampert is gone, Jirachi has its main counter taken out and can potentially sweep.

Tyranitar: Hydro Pump does a lot of damage, though Starmie fears Crunch and Pursuit. Seed Flare and Waterfall are also super effective, and DynamicPunch/Close Combat always OHKOs.

Starmie: My own Starmie outspeeds non-Scarfed versions and can hit them with a Thunderbolt, but I don't think it OHKOs. Jirachi can also Thunderbolt it or set up a CM or 2. +1 Kingdra kills it with Outrage, and Machamp OHKOs with Payback. With Flygon, U-Turn does quite a lot of damage and allows me to switch to Jirachi or Starmie to take the Ice Beam. My Starmie will now speed tie, so after a U-Turn it will be OHKO'd by Thunderbolt whereas IIRC my Starmie will not.

Skarmory: Machamp does surprisingly well against the metal bird, as DynamicPunch does quite a lot of damage. Starmie and Jirachi can both kill it with Thunderbolt, and Shaymin 2HKOs with HP Fire.

Blissey: Literally my whole team can beat Blissey. STFU, fat pink whore. Now only Starmie can't beat Blissey. Oh noez.

Empoleon: Machamp, Jirachi, Flygon, and Starmie hit him hard, and Shaymin's Seed Flare also does a lot. Jirachi can CM tank Hydro Pumps and Surfs while Empoleon is setting up Agility and put up a sub to wall him even further, eventually KOing Empoleon with Thunderbolt.

Kingdra: If he already has a DD, Jirachi's Thunderbolt does a fair amount of damage, but won't kill him without a crit. Shaymin and Starmie can bait an Outrage, die, and let Flygon kill him. Alternatively, I could just switch Flygon in right off the bat, but then I run the risk of it being a SubDD and Substituting the first turn.

Flygon: Flygon is quite evil, but he doesn't really destroy my team. My own Flygon or my Shaymin can switch in on an Earthquake, and Jirachi can switch in on Outrage. My Flygon can also switch in on ThunderPunch, Stone Edge, and U-Turn, although I'll just be U-Turning out myself the next turn.

Jirachi: Shaymin shrugs off paralysis with Natural Cure and hits back with Earth Power, although the occasional Fire Punch can become a problem. Starmie's Hydro Pump does a lot of damage and can take out a weakened one. DynamicPunch confusion from Machamp also helps take down Jirachi. My own Jirachi does quite well if I can avoid being paralyzed. Flygon is immune to Thunder Wave and outspeeds, so flinching isn't an option either. Flygon generally does very well against Jirachi (unless they run HP Ice... but who's ever seen one of those?). Paraflinchhax ones are annoying, but dealt with by my team.

Infernape: Starmie kills it with Hydro Pump. If Starmie's gone, I'm quite open to an Infernape sweep if it can hit through confusion and/or survive a DynamicPunch. Flygon laughs at Infernape and its futile attempts to kill me unless it's Scarfed and uses HP Ice. However, it then allows Jirachi or Machamp to come in and set up.

Heatran: Shaymin OHKOs with Earth Power if it's not Scarfed. If it is, Shaymin will die and Heatran will be locked into Fire Blast, allowing Kingdra to get a free DD in. Starmie outspeeds and OHKOs all Heatran not carrying a Passho berry (basically, it kills every Heatran but about 2. In all of Shoddy.)

Gengar: Dies to just about anything faster than it, which is where Starmie comes in. Hydro Pump easily OHKOs Gengar.

Rotom: Fairly troublesome for my team. If Gallade is still alive, he can get off a Shadow Sneak which does a good amount of damage, but doesn't OHKO unless I have a lot of Swords Dances. From there, Starmie can take out Scarfed Rotom and Machamp/Shaymin can take out the rest. Flygon Flygon Flygon, spamming Flygon. Starmie also works wonders on getting him free switches, though occasionally they're smart and Shadow Ball.

Suicune: Most Suicune can't even touch my Jirachi once it CMs up alongside them. Offensive Cune are also dealt with by Jirachi, though Shaymin and Starmie can jump in if necessary. Plus, Suicune hates confusion hax :)

Zapdos: I need quite a bit of luck with confusion hax, freeze hax, or crit hax to beat LO Zapdos. It OHKOs half my team IIRC and the others can't do much back to it. As I said, I need to rely on hax to beat Zapdos...

Forretress: Can't do anything to Jirachi unless it has Earthquake. Machamp also survives Explosion with Substitute and can confuse Forretress . Shaymin OHKOs with HP Fire.

Snorlax: Loves switching in to my Starmie's Ice Beam. He dies to Machamp, however.

If any of you find another threat to my team, please let me know as I like this team a lot and hope to use it for a while.

Crap, I just realized my team has a MASSIVE offensive Zapdos weakness. Machamp now carries Stone Edge over Ice Punch.

Hello iamLEGION interesting team you have yourself, I have a few suggestions that may help your team out!

Choice Specs Jolteon can be a pain to play against since your only electric resist is Shaymin. Who takes 28.1% - 33.3% and after Stealth Rock damage it would take 1/3 from just switching in Thunderbolt. Limiting Shaymins switch ins another problem against Jolteon is that you lack a Ghost typing resist as well leaving Jolteon able to rip holes in your team with just Thunderbolt+Shadowball. Once Shaymin is out of play Jolteon will be able to come in to play and 1 to 2hko every pokemon on your team with specs Thunderbolt. Life Orb variant is also harmful for this team.

This team has trouble playing against Chesto Rest Kingdra who you haven't mentioned in your threat list but this set is very common. Kingdra is able to set up on Jirachi which only takes 20.8% - 24.8% from Thunderbolt and even after +1 Calm Mind Kingdra still takes less than 30%. Kingdra is also able to set up on Starmie once it is locked into a move. After Kingdra receives the +2 Dragon Dances from either of those two match up scenarios it then has the ability to rest off the damage it received and proceed to sweep. At this point Kingdra has the potential for a sweep unless you play off the Outrage switch in to Jirachi.

Flygon @ Choice Scarf | Levitate
Jolly | 4 HP | 252 Atk | 252 Speed
U-turn | Outrage | Stone Edge | Earthquake

I would suggest you use Choice Scarf Flygon instead of Kingdra because this provides your team the essential levitate. As well as the electric immunity this team needs. Allowing you to switch into Jolteons obvious Thunderbolt. This also solves your Kingdra weakness because you are able to out speed +1 Kingdra and ohko with Outrage.

Starmie @ Life Orb | Natural Cure
Timid | 4 HP | 252 SpA | 252 Speed
Hydro Pump | Thunderbolt | Ice Beam | Recover

If you proceed to using Scarf Flygon then I would also suggest you use Life Orb Starmie instead of Choice Scarf. There is no need of using excsessive amounts of Scarf users and Life Orb Starmie packs a punch and gives you a wide coverage as well as the use of Recover. This also pairs up well with Flygon providing you a nice duo. Starmie is able to OHKO Scizor after SR damage and OHKO's Breloom with Ice Beam. With the use of Flygon you can easily play against Breloom by switching in a Sleep fodder and then switching in Flygon as Breloom uses Substitute and you can U-turn to break sub and switch in Starmie to take Focus Punch. That is a possible scenario to help handle Breloom.

Good Luck with the team!:toast:

Hey,

As Scimjara said, you lack a reliable Electric resist. Shaymin gets worn down rather quickly with SR + Life Orb, and cannot switch in continuously to absorb Electric attacks from the likes of Jolteon and Rotom-h, especially since both have the option to hit Shaymin super-effectively. So, I second the suggestion of a Scarf Flygon over Kingdra, although you could run Thunderpunch over Stone Edge, since without Scarf Starmie you become slightly more susceptible to DD Gyarados. Life Orb Starmie sounds like a good option, it rips open Stall apart from Blissey, who is easily set up on by Machamp and Jirachi.

I see a major problem with your team, and that is the lack of Stealth Rock. Rocks are practically essential for any offensive team such as this, and it really helps out your sweepers. Gallade might be an excellent anti-lead, but instead I'd suggest trying out a Colbur Azelf lead. This guy still has the option to shut down most opposing leads with Taunt, and does not automatically lose to Scarf Tyranitar, as you can now easily survive its Dark STAB and U-turn out for good damage. A moveset of U-turn/Taunt/Stealth Rock/Explosion sounds good, with an EV spread of 8 HP/140 Atk/144 Sp Def/216 Spe and a Jolly nature works well, as the Special Defense allows you to survive Roserade's Leaf Storm, while the 216 Speed provides you with a slower U-turn against opposing Azelf.

Nice team, and gl!

I have changed Kingdra to Scarf Flygon and Starmie to LO Starmie. I'm testing out Colbur Azelf, but I'm pretty skeptical...
I'm considering trying Heatran over Jirachi or Shaymin (he could use Stealth Rock if you think it helps me get some key 1-2HKOs) to absorb Will-o-Wisps aimed at Machamp and Fire Blasts at Shaymin (if Shaymin stays), but then I would have a pretty big Suicune weakness and would probably try to replace something else. Alternatively, I could try out someone able to Stealth Rock and hit hard over Machamp, but his confusion hax can be lifesaving. And I thought he'd be the first one to go since I didn't really like him at first, lol.

Bump. Also, Colbur Azelf has been rejected. It's just not viable outside the lead position, and that's Gallade's prime setup spot. Azelf may be good, but he can't devastate a team like boosted Gallade. Also, I need to get extremely lucky to kill Zapdos. Any suggestions there?
