Team (insert name here)-Balanced OU

So here it is. My first competitive team. It seems to work pretty well, but I'd like others to take a look. I did teat it out today on Shoddy, And got 7-3 (Wins-Losses).

My team at a glance:

Swampert @ Leftovers
240 HP/216 Def/54 SpA
Relaxed
-EQ
-Hydro Pump
-Stealth Rock
-Ice Beam
MixPert makes for one amazing lead. He almost always gets stealth rock set up, and also does some major damage to opposing leads like Infernapre and Metagross. In mid to late game, he can also come back in as a bulky sweeper. i chose this because I have always liked Swampert, it works well on balanced teams, and it provides an electric immunity.

Porygon2 @ Leftovers Trace Ability
252 HP/216 Def/42 SpA
Bold
-Thunderbolt
-Ice Beam
-Recover
-Thunder Wave/Toxic
What? A UU on a OU team? Thats right. This little Pokemon can counter some of the metagames biggest threats such as Salamence, Gyrados, and Heatran. It copies Heatran's Flash Fire, proving it to be nearly completely ineffective. Here are some statistics for Gyrados and Salamence:

Salamence:

-1 Life Orb Outrage: 40.38-47.7%
-1 Life Orb Brick Break: 33.88-40.11%
-1 Life Orb Dragon Claw: 27.1-31.98%

+1 -1 Life Orb Outrage: 60.98-71.82%
+1 -1 Life Orb Brick Break: 50.68-59.89%
+1 -1 Life Orb Dragon Claw: 40.38-47.7%

-1 Outrage: 31.17-36.86%
-1 Brick Break: 26.02-30.89%
-1 Dragon Claw: 20.86-24.66%
+1 -1 Outrage: 46.88-55.28%
+1 -1 Brick Break: 39.02-46.07%
+1 -1 Dragon Claw: 31.17-36.86%

Gyarados:

Bulky Gyarados:
-1 Waterfall: 17.89-21.14%
+1 -1 Waterfall: 26.56-31.44%

Offensive Gyarados:
-1 Life Orb Waterfall: 25.47-30.08%
+1 -1 Life Orb Waterfall: 38.21-45.26%
-1 Life Orb Aqua Tail: 29.00-34.15%
+1 -1 Life Orb Aqua Tail: 43.09-50.95%

And it has the respectable moves to counter them both. Nuff said.

PS I have not been able to decide between the last 2 moves. Lately I've been running T-Wave.

scizor.png

Scizor @ Choice Band Technician Ability
248 HP/252 Atk/10 Spe
Adamant
-Superpower
-Bullet Punch
-U Turn
-Pursuit
Ahhhh. Scizor. With choice band his attack stat soars and allows him to easily revenge kill many things. U Turn and Pursuit have saved me more than once too. Pursuit provides my team with a needed way to counter psychics, and superpower gets pesky Blissey and Skarms out of the way.

rotomheat.png

Rotom-H @ Leftovers
Bold
252 HP/170 Def/88 Spe
-Thunderbolt
-Shadow Ball
-Will O Wisp
-Overheat
The anti-metagame Pokemon. TB and Shadow ball for nice STAB. Will O Wisp cripples many physical sweepers and can also Cripple some stall. Overheat deals severe damage, if not OHKOs, to many of the harder-to-counter Pokes, such as Lucario and Metagross and Skarmory.

salamence.png

Salamence @ Life Orb
Mild
84 Atk/216 SpA/210 Spe
-Roost
-Draco Meteor
-Fire Blast
-EQ
This Mence has some durability. If its not super effective, roost can usually recover of the damage. It helps regain the 25% from Stealth Rock too. Draco Meteor is insanely powerful, as you probably know. I've always liked Mence, and thats one reason why I put him on my team. The other is that he complimenys Lucario very well.

Last but not least....
lucario.png

Lucario @ Life Orb
Adamant
252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
-Swords Dance
-Close Combat
-ExtremeSpeed
-Crunch
Yep. I'm sure all of you out there have seen this before. The all-mighty swords dance Lucario. A wonderful late game sweeper and one of the best attackers overall. ExtremeSpeed for some nice priority, Crunch for Psychics, and Cloce Combat for amazing STAB.

Note: I am considering Ice Punch over Crunch. Not sure what to do about this.

Well there you have it. Post any comments as they're all greatly appreciated. And if you want, submit a possible name for this team and nicks for the Pokamon. If you want.:toast:

Without further ado.........

I really prefer Protect over Hydro Pump on lead Swampert. Hydro Pump won't hit much that EQ won't, and Protect can save you against Metagross and other exploders.

I hate Porygon 2. Sure it's annoying, and counters big threats (though Salamence will laugh at it when you bring it in on Draco Meteor), but what else does it do? All I have to do is play around status and it's set up bait. If you don't T-Wave Jirachi on the switch, it Subs and CMs in your face every time.

I'd honestly use Modest Scarf Starmie with 252 Spd / 252 SAtk to counter stuff; sure it can't come in, but max SAtk Surfs/Hydro Pumps will still hit stuff hard, it can Trick, and as always, a Scarfer can save you in a random pinch.

You can use Scarf Suicune if you want more bulk; Hydro Pump/Signal Beam/Ice Beam/Hp Electric counters the same stuff as P2.

I'd replace either Lucario or Scizor (preferably Scizor) with a Choice Scarf Jirachi; Iron Head flinch can get you out of a jam, it provides insurance against Gyrarados and Salamence, and can bother the opposing team with U-Turn. I suggest Iron Head/U-Turn/Ice Punch/Thunderpunch

How would you stop an all out attacking ape...all they would need to do is play around the rotom H and they could get you easily.

to all the people saying that nape runs through his team, its true, but from the looks of things, a couple of smart switches will save him, and killing the nape with extremespeed will work.

Hey there. It looks like you have a pretty solid thing, I just think there are a few things that need to be fixed.

First of all, Porygon2 may be cool for countering common threats like Heatran and Gyarados, but I really don't see any other reason to have it on your team. As I see it now, MixApe really gives your team trouble, as nobody can outrun him and he has a Super Effective move for 5/6 of your Pokemon (Rotom-H also has trouble taking a Life Orbed Flamethrower). I've also noticed that you lack a Rapid Spinner, which can be very valuable for times when you're faced with a stall team. For these reasons, I would reccomend using Starmie instead of Porygon2. It still switches into Gyarados and Heatran easily, but it also helps your Infernape weakness and provides Rapid Spin, so I feel your team could benefit more from Starmie than it ever could from Porygon2.

Starmie @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Timid
EVs: 136 HP / 156 Def / 216 Spe
Moveset:
- Rapid Spin
- Surf
- Thunderbolt
- Recover

This is the basic Rapid Spin set for Starmie and it will definetely help you with your MixApe weakness, as long as you don't switch it into a Grass Knot. The only problem with this is that it really can't hit Salamence with anything, but that's not it's purpose. Swampert can deal with Salamence pretty well, so Ice Beam isn't needed here.

Lastly, like Ancien Régime vbmenu_register("postmenu_1954035", true); mentioned, consider Protect over Hydro Pump on Swampert. Lead Swampert doesn't nessecarily need to have a Water type move because Ice and Ground are pretty good coverage to begin with. Protect, on the other hand, makes for a great move to use on any lead, because scouting can be really important in this current metagame.

Anyway, good luck with your team!

I agree with Ancien Regime definitely put Protect on Swampert. Doing this frees Rotom up and you arent so reliant on it to take Metagross and therefore less likely Rotom will get Meteor Mashed because of this you can change it to a Scarf variant. Scarf Rotom is an extremely useful pokemon in todays metagame. It revenge kills Infernape, Scizor, Lucario and Gyarados. Shadow Ball is really useful against Celebi and other bulky Psychic types. Normally i would suggest running Hydro PUmp over Overheat just because you are not helpless against TTar and Heatran but its probably better for you to revenge kill Scizor who you would otherwise struggle to kill. Finally Trick is just such an awesome move that you should definitely consider it will help you have a much much easier time against stall too.

Porygon 2 is normally a good choice on an offensive team but on this team you already have answers to GYarados in Rotom and multiple responses to Salamence in Scizor and Swampy. For this reason i suggest you change it to a Pokemon that will help Lucario to sweep. Lucario's most common counters in the game are Salamence, Gyarados and Gliscor. It may be an idea in order trick them into staying in by running a Scarf Tyranitar. Who will outspeed them both and KO them. TTar will also give you a Sandstorm helpful for your other sweepers and a switch in to a variety of special attacks - which you otherwise have difficulty with. It will also be extremely useful against Rain Dance teams who atm will sweep you easily.

This is the set i suggest you run:

Tyranitar @Choice Scarf
120 Atk / 136 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty/Naive

Fire Blast
Ice Beam
Stone Edge
Crunch / EQ

Ice Beam is for Dragons, Gliscor and Hippowdon the latter will switch in and get ohko / 2hko and thus the better Luke counters will be dead. Stone Edge will beat Gyarados.

You may not need to Scarf Rotom if you run this as this many of the same threats such as Infernape and Lucario especially if you run EQ.
Hope you find this helpful.

Thanks to everyone so far. I will definately change HP to Protect. As for the rest Im not really sure. The T-Tar sounds good for luring out Lucario counters, but the Starmie would help against stall teams with rapid spin and fill Porygon2's spot. Also, Regime's idea of a Jirachi sounds OK, but I think it would lack the raw power CB Scizor has.

I dont see what a defensive Starmie would do?
Rotom-H will take little from its attacks and of course block rapid spin. Celebi will also easily beat it too with Grass Knot and will resist both its attacks. Starmie even loses to an Adamant +1 Gyarados with Stealth ROck in play. Furthermore you have a good counter to Gyarados in the form of Rotom.

A sweeper variant could work but you may as well just use a Latias.

You need to test and see for yourself what you think would be most useful on this team. Ill be interested to hear what you think O_O

Yeah Ill try them all. probably 5-10 battles each. The Starmie would Rapid Spin away stuff, mostly for stall teams. Ill definately PM you or post here when I decide what I think is best. Thanks for all the help, and any more comments are always welcome!
