Team Ireland

Introduction

I have been away for two weeks in Ireland and have no internet access while I was there except for one exception. Obviously when your away for two weeks the metagame will change a little bit. I would like to post this team for that reason and that I need to get my post count up. It is a relatively standard rain team that I made while DJXO9 was tutoring me. He did not help me build this team for the record, but he was extremely helpful with team ideas in building this team. I would post a team building process but I do not remember it.

Politoed (M) @ Chesto Berry
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 216 Def / 40 Spe
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Rest
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Toxic

If you want to use a rain team, Politoed is required. He has the amazing ability to set up infinite rain the second it steps into the field. This amazing abililty might end up getting him banned from OU play. It is this ability that makes worth his weight in gold. He is a relatively average pokemon otherwise, but is terrible as far as bulky waters are concerned. I tried to play to Politoeds strengths. I add a really random spread set up for Politoed, but AB2 recommonded a better set for me, so I have decided to use that one. The EV's prevent Politoed from being 2HKOed by Landorus with no boosts. The speed allows me to outspeed some random but useful stuff. The moves is what really makes Politoed a force to be reckoned with. Rest with Chesto Berry allows me to gain a huge upper hand in the weather war. Toxic helps weaken things like Ninetales and Rotom, both of whom are very annoying. Surf is a solid STAB move when boosted by the rain and Ice Beam is a nice coverage move.

Scizor (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Atk / 216 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Roost
- Swords Dance
- Bug Bite
- Bullet Punch

If I remember correctly, I originally built this team around Scizor, but I decided to add Politoed because Rain really helps out Scizor. It is the pokemon that I send out to take on the Lati@s and other dragons. Reuniclus is also very easy to handle with this as the EV's prevent it from being 2HKOed by Focus Blast. Same thing for Virizion. He also very important to this team because he is the one physical attacker on the team and that puts him under huge pressure to help me beat huge special walls such as Blissey and Chancey. Roost is needed on a bulky scizor because I need to gain back the HP. Sword Dance turns me into a tremediously potent offesive threat in one turn. Bug Bite and Bullet Punch are dual STABs.

Tornadus (M) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Hurricane
- Focus Blast
- Air Slash
- U-turn

Smogon made UU while I was gone. How Torndarus is one spot away from being UU is totally unknown to me. I have literally won games from just spamming Hurricane. He is the endgame sweeper and the early game scout. He is easily capable of tearing massive holes in the opposition just from his STAB. He is the offesive glue for this team. Focus Blast provides amazing neutral coverage when used with Hurricane. U-Turn is for scouting early game if there are no rocks. Finally Air Slash is a filler move. No Hidden Power is nessary because Hurricane OHKOs Garchomp and 2HKOs Heatran with some entry hazard damage. That is how hard Hurricane hits.

Xatu (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Wish
- Light Screen
- Protect
- Psychic

This is the most unusual pokemon on this team. Ferrothorn was just so much of pain for this team. It is nearly impossible for your standard rain team to deal with. This one was no exception to it. I also lacked any hazards and hated to see them set up because many pokemon on this team hate seeing hazards: read Scizor, Politoed, Torndarus. I needed too much for nearly any one pokemon to do. Forretress, Omaster, Smeargle, and Cloyster are the only ones who can do everything that I needed. I have tried all of them expect Smeargle and Omaster and was not impressed. The best part about Xatu is that it can support my team and can force Ferrothorn out without taking any damage, which is why I use it over Espeon. Wish is great for Politoed.

Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Thunder
- Hydro Pump
- Pain Split
- Will-O-Wisp

Rotom-W is one of the best pokemon in the game right now. It has great bulk and can hit pretty hard without rain. In rain, its hydro pump reaches 360 base power and, even with little investment, hits really hard. It has amazing typing for rain. It loves shooting high power moves that have pretty good neutral coverage. It helps wreck other weather teams. It can easily run through apposing rain teams. Thanks to Xatu, I can run both Will-o-Wisp and Pain Split, which makes Rotom an even bigger pain in the ass. The EV spread was from Franky's spread.

640.gif

Virizion @ Leftovers
Trait: Justified
EVs: 204 HP / 52 Def / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Giga Drain
- Focus Blast
- Taunt

Last, but not least, the elegant pokemon. It runs through sand if it does not ave Reuniclus. It hurts rain if it does not have Torndarus, which too many of them don't. It can hurt many different teams with its dual STABs CM and speed alone. I had too some trouble with stall, so I elected to put taunt over HP Ice. Focus Blast and Giga Drain are STAB moves that hit hard or regain HP. I don't what the EV spread does, but I just plugged it in one day and have been too lazy to every change it.

<3 Tornadus
Focus Blast usually never sees use on Specs from my experience, and when used misses. With Hammer Arm instead, you can suprise TTar switch ins (who screw over your Hurricane) and bypass the 1.5x SDef boost they get. If you fail to OhKo, -1 speed still outspeeds TTar. For this reason of getting rid of TTar more effectively and reliably, i recommend Hammer Arm instead of Focus Blast. Then, switch the nature to Naive or something (this also gives U-turn some more power).

Thanks for the rate. I like the idea of hammer arm on Tornadus, but more for Blissey and Jirachi than TTar as all TTars are at least 2HKOed by Focus blast.

Hey man, this is a really cool team. You have most of your weaks covered and it seems like you know what you're doing when playing this team. Although there are a few slight problems that I'd like to point out. It seems that you may have difficulty with Life Orb Latios. Although Scizor is a pretty good switchin, it won't really be appreciating a Life Orb'd Surf in the rain anytime soon, especially since your bullet punch won't be doing enough at full health. Reuniclus is in the same boat as it can be really annoying if it packs trick room, being able to set up for free on virizion, and scizor is your only check so if a misplay occurs, then Reuniclus could be really annoying you for the rest of the match. Also, it seems that you're annoyed by sand teams, especially when they're correctly played. This is why I'd recommend going 252 HP | 216 Def | 40 Spe with Surf | Toxic | Rest | Ice Beam and a Chesto Berry on Politoed. This will allow Politoed to take on sweepers such as Landorus much more easily as well as restore to full health whenever you see the need to. This will help you stay alive longer and in turn be more likely to win the weather war versus opposing weather teams.

As for your slight Reuniclus and Latios problems, I'd try running a Specially Defensive Jirachi over your Scizor. This will allow you to essentially counter pokemon such as Reuniclus, Latios, and Virizion making it a more solid check than Scizor could be in the rain. Also, Jirachi can use Wish to keep Politoed healthy and provide the team with paralysis support if Tornadus needs it. As for some other options, you could try running Scarf Politoed over your current version. This allows you to essentially clean up most weather teams under your own weather with boosted Surfs or Hydro Pumps. It also provides an excellent check to Excadrill so that you could consider making Rotom more offensive.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Careful 252 HP | 216 SpD | 40 Spe Serene Grace
Body Slam | Iron Head | Wish | Stealth Rocks

Overall you did a very nice job building this team, good luck.

Thanks for the rate and the compliment. The big problem with testing Jirachi, I have already tried this, ist that it makes all of my team very specially based. I had a lot of trouble with Blissey, but I think that I will try it with SD Virizion this time.

I have been testing out Jirachi and SD Virizion, but I felt that it needed to many changes to the team to function. I really liked the Politoed set actually and I will be using that.

Cool team man, theres just one issue that stands out for me, and that is how slow it is! Pokemon such as Thundurus and Terrakion really have a field day, especially the former as your Scizor cannot Bullet Punch it.

I think the best option for you would be to try a Scarf Rotom-W over your current version. Scarf Rotom-W allows you to revenge these Pokemon, or even switch-in on a set-up move if you see the opportunity and outrun and KO them. With significant special attack investment, Rotom-W is hitting really hard and can threaten to OHKO both of them after Stealth Rock. With Trick, Rotom-W can also be used to cripple threats such as specially-defensive Jirachi giving Tornadus and Virizion a much easier time.

Rotom-W @ Choice Scarf
Timid | Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spe
Thunder / Hydro Pump / Trick / Volt Change

I'd probably suggest you try Reflect, Roost and U-turn on Xatu. Reflect allows Xatu to beat Ferrothorn more reliably and makes it a lot easier for Politoed to switch-in on Tyranitar. Roost > Wish is just a preference thing and lets you use U-turn on Xatu. U-turn is really good as you can pick up momentum once you've come in on Ferrothorn and even U-Turn out of Tyranitar if you're lucky.

Cool team!
