Team Jostellalaugust

Hello everyone, I haven't made a rmt in a very long time, so I thought I'd post one. This team is pretty well rounded, and Ive had some pretty good success on the smogon ladder using it, Anyways here's the wonderful team. By the way, don't ask about the name. *.*

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 Def
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Iron Head
- Thunder Wave
- Fire Punch
---
This Jirachi is a far better lead than choice scarf Jirachi, as it t-waves most common leads who think its scarf and from there I either use stealth rock or iron head. This lead has the potential to make a dent in my opponents team thanks to luck and because of the surprise factor. I'm considering adding speed, but I have thunderwave for that, and I really enjoy the extra bulk that is provided by the evs. Thunderwave support is great for spreading status, and tyranitar greatly enjoys pokemon that are slower than him, I'm experimenting other leads here.

Tyranitar (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 80 HP / 176 SDef / 252 Atk
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Ice Punch
- Pursuit
---
A very important part of my team, it works well with Gyarados and Lucario. It helps gyarados by pursuing those damn rotoms and evil celebi. Lucario benefits from the move ice punch that let me get gliscors on the switch in. This is also my initial blissey switch in and usually pursuits it to weaken the annoying blob. Tyranitar is probably the 2nd most valuable player on my team, as it really makes the kob a lot easier for my 3 sweepers. Also CB Tar's stone edge is really powerful and it gets those gyarados's and salamence on the switch in. I know ice punch may be inferior to aqua tail , but I prefer the immediate ohko on gliscor.

Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 156 HP/108 Atk/100 Def/144 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
---
I feel at this point bulkydos is better than offensive gyarados as it takes hits better and still packs a punch. Moveset is pretty standard Waterfall is for stab, EQ isfor metagross and other random stuff, and ice fang for dragons and celebi. This is my switch in to Lucario and Heracross. The only thing I despise about this is that if they have stealth rock and a counter they really make it hard for gyarados to do jack shit, but tyranitar helps greatly. This really stops lucario and salamence from raping me over and over again. So, its really needed on this team, Intimidate is also great for stat-uppers :D

Latias (F) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Surf
- Trick
- Draco Meteor
- Dragon Pulse
---
Specias is so good. I usually surf first so I get tars and scizors on the switch in. Draco meteor rapes everything, and dragon pulse is reliable. I use this mid game to see if they have a blissey and then I switch to tyranitar to pursuit blissey, or If tar is dead Ill just trick choice specs on to it. My main infernape switch in, and if tyranitar is down this is my swith in. This team hates infernape and this patches up that weakness while providing some extra power. I'm consering going cm with all attacks set. This might be the weak link, but it has saved my butt on a number of occasions.
Lawn-Mover-CT-C4OS-.jpg

Rotom-c @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/120 Def/136 SDef
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Will-o-wisp
- Thunderbolt
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
---
Scizor is useless when this is alive, it spreads status and I switch it into machamp and burn it, btw machamp is annoying. This is also my main gyarados counter and it makes a great one at that, really holds the team together. A really good fighting resist and it spreads burn which is always nice, it also appears that many people have a great deal of trouble with this set, discharge isn't here because I rather burn a tar then accidentally para'ing it. Restalk really helps me stall out many threats when they are burned, and this is really great against stall teams when Blissey is dead via tar or gyarados.

Lucario (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Crunch
- Extremespeed
---
Works great with Tyranitar, as sand storm and stealth rock really wear down its counters. I switch this in on cb tar and cb scizor and sd and set up. Really save this until the last moment, and it's a really great sweeper. Although If I have to send this out early game I use CC first, to wear down gyarados+salamence who like to switch in thinking I'm gonna Sword Dance. This is really what the team is based around, and with some smart thinking it can reallly sweep any team out there.

Hello Brawley!

As I promised, here is my rate. I don't see the point in all those SDef EVs on Tyranitar. If you really want to take special hits better, use 252 HP / 216 SDef / 40 Atk with a Careful nature. However, if you just want to take special hits and be able to pack quite a punch, i suggest 80 HP / 176 SDef / 252 Atk with an Adamant nature. EV spread credit goes to Legacy Raider, and the EVs mean that not even Specs Latias Surf 2HKOs with Stealth Rock down.

Next off, I believe Jirachi would be much better off running at LEAST 200 Spe EVs. That way you can have a better switch into SDLuke, since right now you are going to have trouble against Swords Dance Lucario if Gyarados is not at full health. In general I feel that you should use Restalk Dragon Dance on Gyarados so you have a second status absorber and you will also then have a much better Lucario check. Of course if you did that you would have to Scarf Latias to check Dragon Dance Salamence, but i'm not sure if you'd want to do that as you'd lose fire power.

As Stellar and Tab already mentioned on IRC, I think Body Slam Jirachi would be a better fit for this team. You may also want to try out Occa Berry on Lead Rachi to survive lead ape / tran Fire Blast and hopefully paralyze with Body Slam, or paralyze 100% of the time Thunderwave. Thunderpunch is also an option over Body Slam as the Paralysis chance is upped thanks to Serene Grace.

I dunno just some food for thought there!

hey brawleX, nice team you have. the weaknesses it does have arent too huge, and its pretty solid. the biggest weakness i see is lucario. if they don't play like a dumbfuck and swords dance early game, you're going to have to rely on a speed tie to beat that thing. right now, i see two things that can help this problem without really changing it that much. the first is to change jirachi's ev spread. it's not really a good spread for jirachi, and there are definitely much, much better spreads. since you're lucario weak, we'll outspeed adamant lucario. this also provides more speed vs every other thing, as sometimes you just _cant_ thunder wave in time. speed is a great asset on jirachi. there are two options for the other evs, bulky or offensive. if you go offensive, you'll find it harder to take weaker hits very often. latias' dragon pulse, blissey's seismic toss, flygon's u-turns, etc. a defensive spread of 176 spe / 252 hp / 80 def adamant will do if you want to go on the defensive. offense has its perks as well!! you can hit stuff a lot harder, reducing the number of times you need to flinch / attack in general. it also does a bit more to those pesky lucario. iron head nails blissey for a 3hko now, etc. the offensive spread is 176 spe / 252 atk / 80 hp adamant.

another thing that patches up some weaknesses on the team is changing gyarados. tbh bulky gyara isn't good anymore, no instant recovery (besides rest) means that you cant take hits as well. even when he boosts, he's often forced out due to his poor attack. i'm going to suggest restalk gyara over bulky gyara. they function the same, but stalk gyara takes attacks better and heals up as well. you can use dragon dance over roar, as the only residual damage you have is stealth rocks. i have a really cool set that takes special hits from his often forgotten 100 base special defense, as well as physical hits.

gyarados @ leftovers
careful 252 hp / 156 def / 100 spdef

~ dragon dance
~ rest
~ sleep talk
~ waterfall

edit: fuck august types faster than i do, i had the exact same stuff in go advanced, but didnt see he posted xD

@August I'll be sure to change the tyranitar ev spread. I'll also try speed on jirachi although I do like my bulky jirachi as it can switch into a lot of stuff. Also I wont change thunderwave 60% of para isnt good enough for me.

@Bad Ass I tried restalk dos and didnt really like it.

I run a similar Jirachi lead only that I use Body Slam, Wish and sometime Zen Headbutt over Iron Head, Thunder Wave and Fire Punch, Wish support is generally not important but body slam gives you the chance to hit ground types and possibly score a paralysis, right now the only issue with Thunder Wave is that it cannot hit grounds, but Body Slam cannot hit ghost......I wouldconsidertrying Body Slam over Thunder Wave anyways as it deals ok damage to leads that are not ghosts and steels and can still score a paralysis.

just saying I mean this is subject to evs, natures ...

But my jolly gyara ohkoes rotom-c with + 1 Waterfall

This is from experience so dont ask for calculations,

no, it doesnt ohko, even with adamant. a poorly evd rotom-c was probably the culprit.

and just in case you didnt see in my first post, the stuff about jirachi's evs

Hey Brawley, I like the team but I really wish you gave more than a 2-sentence description for each pokemon. The lack of threat list sucks too. If you didn't have that badge this thread probably would have been locked already, you might want to flesh this out a bit more....

The first thing I noticed is that this team is swept 6-0 by DDMence. Rotom isn't going to be at 100% all match since you are relying on it for so much, so saying "it doesnt OHKO Rotom" is mostly irrelevant. Another thing I noticed is that Skarmory walls this team from top to bottom (except Rotom, but even still its getting 1 layer up). I think putting Choice Scarf and Trick on Jirachi would help those two issues. You can still get SR up, but now you can ruin Skarmory with Trick AND still have something that can come into Salamence and threaten it.

You should move those SpDef EVs on Tyranitar into HP as well. I would also switch Ice Punch to Aqua Tail, as it still nails Gliscor, while giving you better coverage against Hippowdon. AT over IP also prevents Scizor from coming in and getting a free Swords Dance or U-turn.

Sorry that this rate is so short, it's tough to figure out what your goal of the team is with such short descriptions and nothing to fill us in on how you actually intend to use this team.

It's nice reading a comprehendible OU RMT now and then without the usual masturbation of its own ladder climbing awesomeness.

Your team (for the most part) holds itself as a true company. I have yet to think of a really good OU threat that can't be screwed over by another piece of your team. The only threats I can see are a Motor Drived mix Electivire thanks to your Rotom, a Yawning Hippowdon with SR on field, a DD Froslass in Hail to drag your T-Tar to hell, and Flichkiss whose paralysis would devastate everyone except Rotom. And for these threats you're just gonna have to use your wits.

Having said that, I am confused with your purpose. You said your goal was to allow Lucario to sweep your opponents clean yet what you're really doing is throwing as many punches as you can while playing bait and switch. And if that's your new intention, Lucario has no reason to be there except to block ice attacks for Latias. I hardly think she needs to worry about a Blissey's Ice Beam or a Mamoswine's Avalanche. I'm also finding that Latias is saving your EQ/EP weak teammate's asses an awful lot. You have Rotom and Gyarados to absorb these attacks but they can't really outlive Hippowdon, Swampert or Gliscor without more switching. But to whom?

But don't listen to me. I just know my teams.
I enjoyed the read without feeling my eyes roll in disdain or boredom. The lawn mower was a nice touch.

I use the exact same Lead Jirachi spread and moveset, so long ago that I thought I invented it :D

But it's not untouchable, and admittedly, there are better leads. Jirachi always loses to Swampert and Hippowdon, and VERY rarely manages to beat Metagross (the current #1 lead). Plus, in all honesty and all things considered, a standard Choice Scarf lead Jirachi is a better lead Pokemon.

Also, Brawley, I would consider an enemy Lucario doing some damage to this team. Gyarados can get worn down easily by SR and your lead pretty much guarantees that the opponent will get SR down.

Finally on your Latias, I like how you say that you use Surf first to scout for Tyranitar and Scizor. That part's not really a rate, just a compliment.

Very nice team Brawley.

Occa

If you want to surprise your enemies even more, use Occa Berry on Jirachi, he will bluff a Choice Item and can T-wave and SR on Heatran.
Just my opinion, good luck!!
