TEAM BUILDING

scyther-m.png
It all started with this guy. He has amazing potential to be an awesome physical sweeper. He's also my favorite pokemon. I wanted to construct a team around him, with scyther being the main attack force.

Well, with scyther being my main killer, I knew I'd need a rapid spinner. Scyther takes 50% damage entering in on stealth rock. Hitmontop was the best I could think of, he also added the element of fighting to my team. He's got some powerful moves, so it didn't seem like he just filled the role of rapid spinner, and that only.

Adding Hitmontop as a spinner also made me think about my own team needing a stealth rocker. This was to further ensure that Scyther could sweep with a higher success rate. I've always liked to make my lead my stealth rocker, because that way it doesn't require a switch to get up a stealth rock. So, I added Uxie, a sturdy, quick pokemon with access to not only stealth rock but a diverse movepool.

Then once I had those 3 down, I started to think about the good core rule of almost every UU team. Grass, Water, and fire. I decided to add Lanturn. Lanturn can not only kill off fire and rock pokemon but he can get in there and do damage to bigger nuisances like spiritomb or alakazam with thunderbolt. Lanturn seemed to fit perfectly.

Further thinking about Scyther, I started to think about his sturdyness. I thought a reliable baton passer would surely help scyther get off the swords dance and even further ensure a sweep. I chose Drifblim because hes a big stury guy with decent list of resists and immunities. He's not the quickest but he can usually get off a baton passed sub.

I was only missing one pokemon, and I thought it should be a fire to complete my set of coverage. Magmortar has a decent movepool and he's a pretty powerful fire type pokemon. Thus, the team was complete.

A CLOSER LOOK

th_dp-uxie.png

Uxie @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Stealth Rock
- Memento

Uxie is an excellent lead. The first move is to always set up stealth rock. Uxie is damn near guaranteed to get it off, if not anything else. He outspeeds a hell of a lot of leads, and gets the job done. Sometimes people switch a early game sweeper or something in on Uxie, and that's really what memento is for. It pretty much shuts down their sweeper. If I can I try to get dual screens off before I go down with memento. But the main idea here is to get off stealth rock and then memento whatever I can when I have minimal health.

hitmontop.png

Hitmontop @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 Def
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Rapid Spin
- Close Combat
- Sucker Punch
- Stone Edge

Hitmontop does his job awesomely well. I usually don't bring him out until one of two things happens, either they have stealth rock up or they bring out a normal type wall. Hitmontop's main job is definitely to get off the rapid spin, but his ability to throw out a heavy hitting close combat is really helpful. Sucker punch is in there to take down low health pokemon. Most pokemon that aren't resistant to dark can die with a sucker punch from hitmontop and he is still at full health. Stone Edge is a good fill move, especially for killing off moltres.

Scyther @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk/252 Spd/4 SDef
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Aerial Ace
- Bug Bite
- Brick Break

The main army behind this team. Scyther is just simply freaking awesome. He can sweep like hell. Most of the time I can still get a successful sweep off without having a SD up. The three attack moves provide damn near picture perfect coverage. Life Orb increases all these attacks, adding on to the carnage. SD + sky high atk + Life Orb = awesomeness.

drifblim.png

Drifblim @ Leftovers
Ability: Aftermath
EVs: 80 HP/176 Spd/252 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Baton Pass
- Substitute
- Shadow Ball
- Hypnosis

Drifblim's main purpose is to get off a successful baton pass to scyther. Hypnosis is there to ruin lives and help get off that baton pass. The idea here is to substitute and then baton pass to scyther. When scyther comes out he can hopefully get off a swords dance before the substitute is destroyed. Shadow ball is there to do some damage if need be, but the main idea here is just to help out scyther.

Lanturn.png

Lanturn @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 40 HP/76 Def/140 SAtk/252 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Thunder Wave

Lanturn is a total badass. I really don't know why people don't use him more. He helps out my team so damn much. He's usually able to atleast kill 2 pokemon on the opposing team. He can also get off a few t-waves that might help scythers sweep even more. Switching iin unexpectedly helps too, especially with volt absorb. He has good move coverage, especially for UU. He's just a big old tank of destruction. Lanturn is awesome.

Magmortar @ Expert Belt <---------------------------------------->Arcanine @ Leftovers
Ability: Flame Body<---------------------------------------------->Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 84 Atk/172 Spd/252 SAtk<----------------------------------->EVs 240 SAtk / 168 Spe / 100 Atk
Mild nature (+SAtk, -Def)<---------------------------------------->Mild nature (+Sark, -Def)
- Fire Blast<------------------------------------------------------>- Flamethrower
- Thunderbolt<--------------------------------------------------->- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Cross Chop<---------------------------------------------------->- Extremespeed
- Hidden Power [Ice]<-------------------------------------------->- Will-O-Wisp

I need a replacement for Magmortar, because frankly he just wasn't cutting it. He would pretty much just go in there and just die before he could really do anything major to the other team. So, I replaced him with Arcanine. I had been thinking about doing this for awhile but I didn't really know what moveset to use or how well he would do. He helps out a lot actually. The moveset and EVs are slightly original, kind of combining a few movesets on smogon. It's somewhat of a mixed attacker, kind of utilizing the best moves in Arcanine's movepool from both physical and special. He has good SAtk power for flamethrower damage, and good Atk for Extremespeed revenge killing/ doing some damage before dying. I threw in will-o-wisp because it is such a good move to have on nearly any team, and with this moveset it is rather unexpected. Even if Arcanine just goes in there and burns a pokemon and does an extremespeed, its still helpful, and it's more than Magmortar ever did.

CONCLUSION

This team normally does pretty good in battle. I've won a decent amount, but I've also lost some. Any criticism is welcome, and any suggestions will be noted, and if I believe they are good, then they will be changed. I didn't list a threat list because really, I don't have too much trouble with anything. NO I'M NOT SAYING THIS TEAM IS PERFECT. I'm just saying I really have come across too much that I have had too much trouble with that was worth changing my team around for. The only real one that I can think of that's really nasty is Kabutops, but I think most teams have that problem. Thanks for anybody who responds or gives me advice.

ALL CHANGES WILL BE MADE AND BOLD

First nitpick which is quite obvious is why would you use hp ice when the only pokemon it would hit super effective is altaria(that fire blast is not SE on). I recommend changing it to hp grass to deal with rypheriors and other defensive rock/ground defensive pokemon. Like you said you dont see magmortar as a reliable pokemon so switch him around for a mix arcanine(with hp grass) or np houndoom.

Why not replace thunder wave with toxic. Think about it this way, what pokemon would usually switch into a lanturn. Most players will switch in a bulky tank to take the t-wave which won't really affect it since its aim is just to wall certain pokemon whereas toxic will actually hit a shitload of walls that will switch into you bar registeel and venusaur which cna easily be dealt with most of your other team members.

Hope this helped.

Hi,

Interesting team, but Drifloon doesn't seem to be doing much other than pass Substitutes to Scyther. So, I recommend replacing it with a BP Leafeon, who can not only pass Subs to Scyther, but if it manages to pass some SD boosts as well, it's pretty much gg. Also, Leafeon provides a nice check to Rhyperior, Torterra and Aggron, all of whom can destroy your team as offensive versions 2HKO Hitmontop, even after Intimidate. It also provides you with a nice Fire/ Water/ Grass core:

Leafeon@Leftovers
132 HP, 160 Atk, 216 Spe
Jolly
- Leaf Blade
- Swords Dance
- Substitute
- Baton Pass

This is a nice team, well done and gl.

This isn't actually a bad idea. I just recently learned the power that leafeon has. I made a test team with him as a sweeper, and he actually has pretty good potential. I think I'm going to try him out as my sub passer. He's quicker than Drifblim, and probably more likely to get off the sub, and maybe even an SD. Thanks for the suggestion, I'm gonna try it out today. I'll be back later with the results.
